Has anyone ever actually said what the FoV is?

It looks no wider to me.

It shouldn't be either, FoV is based on player distance from the screen and screen size.

FoV in this game is based on the aspect ratio and the virtual wide-lens they are using. I said this before (KKRTOO said I was wrong though) but with a wide-angle lens there should be more visible geometry than with a 35mm. Same as what happened with Resident Evil 6 and the FoV change.

Did no one mentioned the very filmic IQ of the whole scenery? It sure looks like Lottes game he wished to realize IQ-wise. I hope others will try to achieve the same level or even surpass this.

The last guardian with the same IQ would be so glorious.

Not sure exactly what it is, but it appears to change depending on what you're doing (exploring, shooting, zooming etc), and in your relation to nearby walls, cover etc.

None of that really makes sense to me.

Firstly, I don't know how you're determining the 'virtual' film stock. If the lenses were simulated anamorphic lenses you'd see vertical haloing on lights, and it doesn't have it, so either it's not very accurately done, or it's actually modeling normal lenses with Super 35 stock, which is the standard way of shooting scope on film today.

Secondly, I don't know how any of that is relevant, if they're using virtual wide angle lenses on Super 35, the FoV would be between 85 and 65, but so are most console shooters. It doesn't really tell me what the FoV actually is.

graphics look amazing, but the game looks very boring and the dialogue and story are not looking promising. it's basically a more classy gears of war.

Everything is so dark and gray, it's unappealing. The IQ is great but everything seems to blend in with each other due to the colors.

I'm going out on a limb here...but I'm guessing there's other areas beyond rooms with the lights off or alleyways covered in smoke. Also this is industrial revolution London, not Disneyland. That's how it looked for the most part.

Well they're emulating focal length, chromatic aberration, depth of field and dirt on the camera, so I don't expect they'll oh-no-oops forget to emulate the field-of-view as well.

And it's 35mm film they use for movies, not a 35mm lens - how the hell would RAD get a 2.35:1 ratio out of a prime 35mm lens? They're emulating the camera lenses, not the film stock. They're not expecting you to run the game through an anamorphic projector, so they're not using anamorphic lenses - they're using primes.

Honest question, why are there so many people who seemingly think industrial revolution era London was some kind of rainbow wonderland?

Some gamers just prefer more color in their games. Others are just looking for something to criticize.

I dunno, the voice acting was kinda naff in the little clip.

I gotta agree with this. It didn't feel natural to the occasion IMO.

Not sure if its the setting, but this game is not getting any love from me. Maybe I am jaded and maybe i'll be proven wrong, but not sure if this will turn out to be anything special.

The story's about dragging the Commodore throughout London until he's safe. He's accurate.

Apparently, there's a whole bonus level side-scroller bit where you have to get him across London and through a building site without dropping him. Suda51 is programming it.

It's a bit like that Sleepwalker game on the Amiga, or that episode of Popeye were Swee' Pea gets loose.

Like, there was no hot pink? At all? I was kind hoping for trails after my character, like in infamous. Just a little color to make things spicy.

Wait, do you mean a level like Donkey Kong? Enemies throwing barrels with Galahad having to jump them with the Commodore?

I'm in.

looks like a downgrade to me too, the characters all look like living dead now too.

It might be the poor feed, but on a technical level, they are much better now. On an artistic level, it is subjective and some people may not like the change, but it is important to make that distinction.

And what's stopping Crytek designing Ryse 2 (for instance) around it?

because you're asking for them to increase image quality.

ryse single player is using smaa 1tx at 1600x900 at 26-30 fps.

infamous second son open world is using smaa 2tx at 1920x1080 at 30+ fps most of the time.

let than sink in for a moment.

not trying to derail or be off-topic, but image quality isn't dependent on software alone. 1920x800 has more pixels than 1600x900 as well.

but enough of that talk.

That's how Super 35 works, it produces 2.35:1 frame without anamorphic lenses. The print is just extended to the unused optical audio part.

This is besides the point. 35mm lenses on 35mm stock results in roughly a 60 FoV. The argument was that this being in scope is giving the player a wider FoV, if it's 60, that's not the case at all.

Biggest downgrade of this gen confirmed, looks like a PS2 game.

Why stop there.

Honestly you should be ashamed that your eye thinks these are PS2 graphics, the true hardcore among us would say something accurate, something like...

"Looks like a PS1 game."

"Looks sub 16-bit."

"Looks like last-last-last-last-last-gen NES graphics."

I feel like we're doing all the work for RAD here, getting this game coloured-in and zhuzzed-up so people will actually want to buy it.

Oh well then, I don't know what's happening anymore. I assumed FoV in games, worked in the same way as focal lengths on cameras.

Looks like a game from 1997.

Honest question, why are there so many people who seemingly think industrial revolution era London was some kind of rainbow wonderland?

Why can't people just accept that the lack of color is simply what the art director deemed best for this game and just fucking roll with it?

looks like a game from 1886.

An Important clarification: I didn’t write here because I want to interfere with the discussion or influence the general opinion or even less intimidate anyone.

If one thinks our game is Shit [literally: liquid shit], it’s very fine with me. : D Of course I’d prefer a different opinion, and I’m sorry that we failed to attract a possible user, but for sure I’m not hurt or angry. An opinion is an opinion – and we’re talking about entertainment here, not a matter of life or death.

We do our best and we’d like to do things that a whole lot of people will like, but it’s stupid to think that everyone will like them. Even more so today, given the costs and the lower development chances, it’s important to create projects with a lot of personality and polarizing choices. Some will like those choices (we hope many will!), some will be indifferent, some will hate them… and that’s fine.

The heart of our game is surely a TPS. The core gameplay won’t be a revolution, that has never been our intention, but rest assure that it’s not “generic.” It’ll be an unique experience in how everything combines. You’ll see.

These are very, VERY long and heavy days for us, with our nerves always on the brink of exhaustion… So thank you very much for the encouragement.

It’s 7 PM here – Two more hours of work and then (at midnight!) I’m going to go see the new X-Men! Real3D, Dolby Atmos… can’t wait. : D

I can’t comment on the dates. Believe me, all I do is put myself in trouble for the things I say on Twitter. Have mercy. : (

Kinda like his honesty. And frankly, I think it should be in a new thread.

uhhhh..everyone should just download the uncompressed e3 trailer from years ago. looks so fucking good. and you can tell it was in-engine once its on your tv. it looked like a video game, that's for sure. then again there were specks of dust on the lens, there were these little details you won't be able to see on a compressed youtube video.
