Gamespot rumor: Big third-party Xbox One exclusive at E3

Would resident evil cause mass hysteria?

The series is one of the few remaining big selling console IPs in Japan.

Capcom would have to be pretty fucking dumb to abandon their Japanese fans and the much bigger PS4 install base.

All the big Japanese series like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc. are pretty much out of reach for MS for exclusivity.

I'll need a new pair of pants if Microsoft dims the lights and brings out Sakaguchi and Kamiya out to announce their games in development for Xbox One.

It's a gray one to be sure, and MS did clearly fund some of the development.

I guess it depends on how much stock you put in a game from "Infinity Ward" being almost cancelled. Suffice it to say that I'm skeptical.

Respawn is not Infinity Ward and as much as you like to "guess" and be "skeptical" about what could have happened to Titanfall the fact is that MS saved the project. Everything you say at this point is pure speculation trying to downplay MS's role in the developement of the game.

Sure, but their exclusivity seemed to have more to do with...

I don't think they're hardliners either, but I also don't think they're interested in MS's money.

And still the first two games haven't found their way to the PS3 when everyone thought that it was a safe bet after the whole Portal 2 announcement/"partnership". Plus Gabe said that L4D1/2 sold really good on the 360 so yeah it's not a crazy scenario.

You've had more of a platform mix now. In a way I think of Portal 2 as being a very big game on consoles. Especially because no one knows how many copies you sold on Steam. I can't say what it's a bigger game for, but it certainly had a huge amount of mindshare on consoles. And Counter-Strike Go will also potentially have a huge amount of mindshare on consoles. Again, do you have a strategy, or does it speak to the games that you're making?

GN: We can never predict; I mean we just try to build good games and then we tend to be surprised. Portal 2 did better on the PC than it did on the consoles; Left 4 Dead did better on the consoles than it did on the PC. So you know we don't try to guess, because we're not sure what value there is to guessing.

I just hope it's not something I love. Sorry. I just don't want to have to buy another damn console.

I hope it's not
Mass Effect
Any Star Wars
Metal Gear
Fallout or Elder Scrolls
Borderlands
Final Fantasy
Other than that, take it

After all these announcements before hand, I have never been this curious about E3. I mean what will they show in 90min. Insane !!!

I highly doubt it's going to be any of those, except Star Wars Kinect game could be possible.

FF and MGS when 80% of their sales will be on PS4 loool

Others are too big for MS to money hat considering the the lead PS4 has in sales.

Considering Left4Dead has always been console exclusive to Microsoft, and that we're due for it's announcement, I would say that's a safe bet

Publishing and Money-hatting are NOT the same thing.

Examples of recent money-hats, including "marketing partnerships": Watch Dogs/AC4 content on PS, PvZ on XB, Titanfall on XB, CoD/BF maps on XB, FIFA content on XB

Examples of first party published games from second parties: Dead Rising 3, The Order, Quantum Break

Titanfall wasn't money hatted that needs to be come public info.

P.S. I think its Homefront 2.

Homefront 2 being exclusive wouldn't surprise me, but is that a big third party game?

Crytek are an independent studio. My personal view of third party is a publisher (2K, EA, Ubisoft etc).

If MS are publishing HF2 then i'd consider it a second party arrangement.

I have a theory at least one of them is Monster Hunter on the Xbox One.

Capcom renewed their Monster Hunter trademark (actually a service mark, which could mean it is an MMO of some kind) late December in the US.

It would be a big title both in the West and in Japan. If you are going to try and make headway and really bring the games, this is one to do it with.

This is some amateur sleuthing so I could be way off but after their very comfortable relationship with Dead Rising 3, this would make some modicum of sense.

I wonder what it is. Well, we don't even know if this rumor is true yet. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Dragon's Dogma 2

That would be pretty stupid on Capcom's part given that the original did well in Japan.

I just hope it's not something I love. Sorry. I just don't want to have to buy another damn console.

There isn't a chance in hell that any of those will be exclusive.

Mass Effect - seems unlikely given effort EA put into getting it established on Playstation brand, not to mention they already did deal for TitanFall. EA won't need MS funding here and I think hoping for ME is just wishful thinking for a return to the franchise being Xbox only on console.
Any Star Wars - seems unlikely with Disney buy out and their clear goal to rekindle the franchise from the nadir it reached (which as an aside wasn't helped by the Star Wars Kinect title either). There's maybe a slight chance here but it doesn't seem to align to what Disney are doing with the franchise : and for sure Disney don't need MS funding
Metal Gear - not a chance I'd say. The prologue is already multi-platform and the franchise is most associated with and sells the most generally on Playstation hardware. Highly unlikely.
Fallout or Elder Scrolls - Unlikely based on sales of these franchises on PS3. Sure Bethesda has shown favoritism to MS in the past but I really doubt it extents to taking their two biggest multi-platform franchises and limiting their audience by more than half on current gen consoles. At best I see timed DLC for these for MS.
Borderlands - franchise has always been multi-platform and is a huge earner that continues to grow in popularity - totally wrong timing for Gearbox to limit audience for quick money. Again I struggle to believe more than timed DLC at best.
Final Fantasy - Not a chance for a main sequence title. The franchise sells way more on Playstation, they'd lose the Japanese fans and with current trends SE don't even have the pressure to try and work with MS to gain better foothold in US as PS4 is more than popular enough. After Tomb Raider SE selling more on PS4 (so far as I know) than XB1 I doubt SE would limit their key IP in that way. At best some extra missions or some odd offshot title I'd imagine.
Other than that, take it

Not sure I'd expect any of those for noted reasons. MS has a fair bit of money to throw around but developers/publishers also have to balance longer term needs and their own brand image/direction.

I reckon it's more likely to be something new (such as new game from Epic) or something hardcore popular - such as Shemmue - or perhaps they've convinced Valve to go "console exclusive again" with L4D3 or something like that. It just seems unlikely any big, currently popular multi-platform franchise publisher would take a risk switching to exclusive IMHO.

Obviously I could be wrong but from a cold business perspective none of the IP you've mentioned has anything much to gain being exclusive apart from some guaranteed up-front money/marketing that none of those franchises even need anyway, and they have plenty to risk if trends continue and they've missed out on early big numbers on PS4.

I am pretty sure fallout and Elder Scrolls will be multi consoles , the only frsnchise on your list tha could become exclusive is Star Wars , but o do lot care ,

I would be surprised if it were anything that would make me want an Xbox One. Most of the 3rd party games I enjoy are from publishers who wouldn't turn down PC/PS4 money given their install bases relative to the Xbox One.

So far the only Xbox One game (3rd party or 1st party) I am interested in just got officially delayed to 2015.

Sony aren't doing any better. The only game I wanted out of their announced games for this year got delayed too.
