Don't be Shenmue 3, don't be Shenmue 3, don't be Shenmue 3...I've been a Sony/Nintendo combo console gamer for 20 years and haven't felt like I've missed anything...this would change that.

Guessing something by Platinum though...or it's nothing and the rumor is wrong.

(Edit: I did, and still, have a Dreamcast too of course)

People bank it all on Shenmue 3, end up with a sequel to

GG Sega.

Wait, you're suggesting that we should somehow be disappointed if Alpha Protocol got a sequel?! Heresiarch!

Since I felt like stabbing myself in the eyes with sporks when I woke up this morning (as I hadn't in quite some time) I figured I'd see what a misterxsomeone had to say about this.

His at least very passive suggestion is that Half Life 3 for the X1 is coming as a show-stopper announcement at E3! I needed a good laugh, especially since I'd just stabbed myself in the eyes with sporks.

We're in crunch time for E3 hype now. Any little whisper of anything of any sort will get blown entirely out of proportion. It's almost as much fun as the actual E3 presentations because of the resulting crow and/or salt and/or legitimate shock and/or massive depression that happens which all gets set up now.

Idk it is still niche game
(Especially due to its long absence)

And money talks

Especially in the truckload

I could see this happen compared to something more established like Fallout 4

Lost Odyssey 2? an exclusive, new Lumines? a remake of Xenogears?

Any of those would be welcome
but sadly, never going to happen

If this somehow ended up being Shenmue 3 or Fallout 4, not gonna lie lots of salt would be flowing from my posts.

Going to go out on a limb and say Zenimax/Bethesda isn't going to take a game franchise like Fallout that requires a significantly longer development time than most other games and drop it on the currently lowest selling current gen platform out there, so I don't think this is going to be the case.

He also says "unexpected", and I feel like Shenmue 3 is more expected than not, and again, I don't think Shenmue 3 will move hardware or even sell enough to pay off development costs for them.

If this really is a thing, I expect it to either be a sequel to some Platinum title, so that they can use it as a way to try and move units in Japan, or it's something out of EA that we haven't heard of yet.

Wasn't this already leaked to be a Platinum Games studio game.

Don't consider that unexpected at this point. Gaming forums have been talking about that for months now.

Unexpected has to be something that comes out of no where. That's why I'm betting on Dragon's Dogma. No way in hell anyone expects that, especially in japan.

How many times does this need to be gone over? No matter what games Sucker Punch or Guerilla make , the studios are owned by Sony, and will always be for their platforms. You can't moneyhat a first party.

Sony funds games that only come out on Sony systems. Microsoft funds games that only come out on MS systems. What is the difference when it comes to funding games that will not be on a competitor's system and why is it ok for Sony to do this but bad if MS does it?

"exclusive reveal"

and the thread title doesnt match. Whats up?
The title of the rumor is "Big Third-Party Xbox One Exclusive" nothing more.
The "reveal" there should've been "revealed", a grammatical error.

I knew it!!!
FFXV Xbox One exclusive confirmed!!

Ha! This one would be the most hilarious. Starting out as a Playstation 3 exclusive as Final Fantasy Verses XIII, delayed an entire generation and reanounced as a multi platform Final Fantasy XV, then reintroduced as a third party exclusive for Xbox. Never going to happen but it would be funny to watch the Neogaf explode.

I don't really see how your form of structuring a definition is any "more right" setting aside the term 2nd party not being a real term (which again, seems something that Phil Spencer is unaware). I don't know of any particular Oxford dictionary of game terms that has empirically determined the correct usage, where language is static and meaning doesn't evolve. You seem to simply be using one delineation to define what is first or third party (IP ownership rights). Is IP ownership a valid delineation, sure. But I don't particularly see how the delineation between internal and external publishing, or internal or external development aren't also valid delineations.

i think that's giving power to publishers that they don't have. sometimes publishers also have copyright and/or trademark of a property, but not always. there's nothing inherent to what a publisher does that has them override ownership.

I thought XSEED licensed North American publishing rights from the original publisher, i.e. Nintendo. And thus, most consider it a first-party title without ever knowing the IP rights of said title.

this kinda gets at what i was talking about though. it's correct to say that the last story is not a third-party game because the ownership lies with nintendo. it would be similarly correct to say that perfect dark is a third-party game because ownership of the ip was under rare- something more apparent these days as the game was later remade on the xbox 360 where its prequel was also made.

I don't really see why that is or should be the case. I don't know whether anyone considers Dead Rising 3 or Ryse a "less prestigious" game than Forza. I don't think people consider Gears of War a less "prestigious" title than Crackdown. And many would look at all five titles and call them first-party games.

well i won't pretend to understand modern console warrior thinking, but i don't think people will look at the dead rising franchise and consider just one game to be a first-party game when it's the only one that's been exclusive to a platform. it seems far more arbitrary and unrealistic to find what you feel to be true through some sort of gut notion. especially when there are more accurate ways of finding out what it is what in the real world.

The terms 3rd and 1st party are used in several contexts. I would say though that the context you've determined as apparently the only correct usage is one I rarely see, and I highly doubt most people actually know the trademark ownership rights of every game for which they use these terms.

well i didn't determine what is correct. that was done by the companies- the developers and publishers in charge of bringing the game to the public, when they decided who was in control of a property.

In this thread? Link?

I don't see it being Dragons Dogma 2 either considering how 600k (half of its LTD sales) came from PS3 just in JP. Its not even a "big" IP atm.

If it is indeed timed, PS4 japanese gamers will still get it eventually. Waiting 1-2 years ain't hurting them, they have plenty of handheld games to keep them busy til then. And it says BIG third party, not necessarily big game. Capcom about as big as you can get.
