Gamespot rumor: Big third-party Xbox One exclusive at E3

Some of these guesses are ridiculous. Mass Effect 4? Fallout 4? Cyberpunk 2077? Come on guys.

I'd put money on this being a new IP from Epic. Either from the Samaritan or Infiltrator demo.

If it is indeed timed, PS4 japanese gamers will still get it eventually. Waiting 1-2 years ain't hurting them, they have plenty of handheld games to keep them busy til then. And it says BIG third party, not necessarily big game. Capcom about as big as you can get.

This is timed exclusive?

Clearly they can, which is why they have more than either Sony or Nintendo...

Wut

I don't understand this guess.

Why would it be third party? Are EA going to publish it, but still make it exclusive? That's shit for MS and Epic, so it wouldn't happen.

You know what... hype deflated.

Exclusive reveal, as has been pointed out more than a few times in this thread. Derail.

I can't see 3rd-parties doing lifetime exclusives anymore seeing the weak sales performance of the console compared with other.

That what happened with key titles last gen... FF for example.

That's what's going around the grapevine around here. Makes sense too. It rewards MS for helping complete the game if that development hell rumor is true, as well as not be stupid and leaving out a major part of the worldwide fan base.

Win win.

Dragons Dogma is in development hell? Wait Dragons Dogma 2 is in DEVELOPMENT?Don't tell me your source is Thuway's twitter, please.

That's why I said rumor. To give Thuway credit, he was one of the first to announce the DD2 info, and its starting to circulate. And where there's smoke.....

Now that Kinect is no longer attached to the Xbone, I'm totally open to picking one up down the line, so the more compelling titles for the thing, the better!

He's the only one I've ever heard mention DD2 and I have little confidence in what he says on twitter is true let alone on Japanese games.

Do you work at GS? If not, then how do you know what it is ..
No I don't. Because if this was just a reveal, the title would make zero sense.

"Big Third-Party Xbox One Exclusive"
Nope, we're sorry, it doesn't make sense but we were referring to a reveal at MS' conference.

Define don't use? Apart from Lift London and Black Tusk all of them have shipped something (If you discount Xbox Entertainment LA but they aren't making games)

If you want to have it as studios that have shipped something you have to take out Kids and Lifestyle Entertainment, Leap Experience Pioneers, Platform Next Studios, Lift London and Black Tusk.

I don't think Gamespot would mean third party as in a third party making a game published by a first party, that's stupid.

We have the bullshit 'second party' term for just those eventualities.

Well most of them are new, at least they a building. Phil said they also have some more studios they haven't shown

Sony funds games that only come out on Sony systems. Microsoft funds games that only come out on MS systems. What is the difference when it comes to funding games that will not be on a competitor's system and why is it ok for Sony to do this but bad if MS does it?

One method (Sony's) funds the creation of unique content. This affords developers greater flexibility in design as the first party studio is not exclusively concerned with worldwide software sales when organizing their first party lineup and should the initial offering be lackluster in sales but a good game they'll likely get a second bite at the apple.

The other method (Microsoft's) pays to lock already in-progress work to a single platform, bringing zero new or creative elements to the project. It also fails to offer any assurances of continued support for the developers should sales disappoint since MS has no real investment other than a lump sum check of sunk money, and therefore can easily walk away (which they have, a bunch, though they've done that with first parties too).

If MS was just focused on picking up smaller independent studios who lack the means to self-promote or self-publish then that is something else entirely. But when they go to companies like Crytek and Platinum Games (major multi-studio developer who has ample distribution avenues open to them), or even EA and Capcom (major 3rd party publishers with the means to fund and distribute pretty much any title anywhere themselves) it's shearing the sheep a bit close for comfort. They aren't allowing any new content to come to the market, they're just locking previously in-progress content into their walled garden.

It's a shame because once upon a time Microsoft actually had some pretty capable people overseeing their entertainment software. But with the Xbox that was all cast aside and instead they focused on trying to figure out what content would have market relevance but was still purchasable late in life. That's where Halo, Gears, etc. all came from. Not from Microsoft cultivating a family of first party studios that make great software on their own.

If it is indeed timed, PS4 japanese gamers will still get it eventually. Waiting 1-2 years ain't hurting them, they have plenty of handheld games to keep them busy til then. And it says BIG third party, not necessarily big game. Capcom about as big as you can get.

Sure. Make a sequel that costs tens of millions of dollars for a platform that will generate at best a quarter of the sales of it's predecessor entirely due to a poor choice to make it exclusive, then hope that in 1-2 years the title will still somehow hold up and not sell like dogshit when you can finally port it. I'm sure that's what Capcom calls "winning".

Late ports sell significantly worse than day and date releases. Dragon's Dogma was only successful because of the Playstation gamer, more exactly the Japanese Playstation gamer. It was the one really successful new IP launched in Japan last generation. I'm sure Capcom and Microsoft both think that's mutually beneficial.

Hell, lets put aside why Capcom would sign up DD2 as an Xbox exclusive for a minute. Why would Microsoft pay for it? It specifically serves an audience who have not bought in to the Xbox brand for three consecutive product generations now. I'd imagine MS could better spend their money on a game that might actually move consoles.

My guess, if it is actually a real exclusive and not just some bullshit "exclusive reveal" jank is Prince of Persia developed by Platinum. Published by Uibsoft in name only with Microsoft footing the bill.

If instead it is one of those exclusive reveal deals it's probably Mass Effect 4. Synonymous with Xbox already, EA is always willing to throw MS a bone, and Bioware needs someone to carry their water and act like they're still an A list developer, which MS has always been more than happy to do for them.

No I don't. Because if this was just a reveal, it would've been in the title of the rumor.

I'm not the only one pointing out the jump in logic you are taking. Whatever rocks your boat, #BELIEVE
