Gamespot rumor: Big third-party Xbox One exclusive at E3

To be fair if the game is exclusive it will likely come out on the 360 as well. There is just not a large enough userbase to offset the costs of production... when you sell only to one console which just launched. Even then you would have to pay for lost sales on (PS3/4) when the gap is already pretty bad.

Not expecting a huge huge game (platinum would not be unexpected); however these companies tend to announce "exclusive games" that end up being exclusive content or exclusive "versions". Guess we will find out at E3.

I can see Mortal Kombat X be xclusive to xbox one and xbox 360, get xcited D:
why do i see this

Injustice series would be exclusive to PS3/PS4/vita since injustice ultimate edition was only on PS4 for next gen systems.

Mortal Kombat is a huge third party game and microsoft knows this.

They have KI tho

That's not true and you know it. If Monster Hunter came exclusively to xbox Japan would buy so many xboxes that they wouldn't know what to do with them.
The best selling home console MH sold around a fourth that of the better selling handheld titles. If for some crazy reason Capcom put a mainline MH on Xbox One, it'd sell a few hundred thousand at most.

in all seriousness it probably what they did last gen, a timed exclusive but pushed as an exclusive even though it was announced multiplatform at the beggining, for example the new DragonAge game being XB1 console exclusive this year with the PC version still the same day as mentioned, with the PS4 version maybe mid 2015?.

I've saw on Twitter so it's unconfirmed and possibly not true, but it was saying it's dragons dogma 2

Dragon's Dogma 2

If that's true, then I pretty much have to buy an Xbox One just for Dragon's Dogma 2...

Dragon's Dogma (and the Dark Arisen DLC) was one of my favorite games for the past generation. I'm still trying to get the platinum.

That is a big third party exclusive!! I hope it's not true, I'd rather play it on PC or PS4 than X1...

Man, I hate that disingenuous, deceptive timed exclusive bullshit. It's essentially lying in order to trick people into buying their hardware even though it wasn't necessary to play the game in question.

I remember the broken Vesperia discs after the ps3 version was announced in Japan. For many that was the sole reason they even bought 360s in addition to ps3s.

At least be straightforward about it.

Wait, you're saying that even though it's been announced for all consoles except Wii U, Microsoft will pay for timed exclusivity on an already announced and shown off title?

What are you even talking about? Dragon Age Inquisition is releasing the same day for all platforms.

Edit: Or are you just trying to use that as a hypothetical example?

I heard that too actually, no idea if it's true, certainly they've never even teased it as far as I know.

Yeah, that was bandied about in 2012 I think. Wishful thinking on my part, but maybe they've actually found a way to get Shenmue 3 made and will release the HD collection when they can show a trailer for it.

There's too much money at stake these days for it to be anything major.
And the likes of Rockstar have learnt the negatives of exclusive DLC - both GTA IV and L.A. Noire.

Wow, that's one bold assertion.

"E3 Predictions?

A GAME!!!!!"

If it was Shenmue III or something genuinely unexpected, that would be nice. But with such a bland assertion as "there's going to be a game, according to a guy," there's not much reason to be excited.

If shenmue came out they would need to do a remake of 1 and 2. Even though I really enjoyed one and made it halfway or so through 2 I can't remember shit about it and 3 would be lost on me.

Are you saying Episodes from Liberty City was a negative for Rockstar? Considering MS paid a pretty nice amount for something that helped extend the life of the game, plus get them more revenue?

If anything, Rockstar has learned the negatives of exclusives period since Sony isn't paying for exclusivity with GTA anymore.

Why didn't you just say timed exclusive? lol

But with such a bland assertion as "there's going to be a game, according to a guy," there's not much reason to be excited.

They went deeper than that though. The guy is a trusted source and the game is suppose to be unexpected and a crowd winner. That's a bigger deal than just some new game.

The wording is just Gamespot incompetence.

Of course they mean an exclusive game, who the hell cares about an exclusive reveal? That's not newsworthy.

Just like nobody cares about "30 minutes of exclusive gameplay" or "exclusive PS4 character outfit" etc etc. Companies are dying for anything exclusive these days because 3rd parties are not going to go full exclusive with their games. It would not shock me at all if this is an exclusive reveal and Gamestop knowingly wrote it in this ambiguous way to try and get clicks.

When have you ever believed games media when they say this though? How many times has Geoff Keighley hyped up some huge game that will blow minds only for it to be nothing.

But it wasn't Gamestop, it was Gamespot.

What i would love: Beyond Good & Evil 2 (project on hold for some time, MS gives the resources to allow Ubi to continue the development without risks) / Dragon's Dogma 2 (Sony funds Deep Down, MS funds DD2)

What is going to be: Splinter Cell something :(

This ain't the first time we've heard this though. Just a few weeks ago we were bluntly told that the e3 judges weren't exactly woo'd this e3 in general, but there was one or two surprises. This is probably one of them.

Shhh no truth, only baseless hype now.

Splinter Cell actually makes way more sense than every other suggestion. Blacklist seriously under performed, Ubi are super risk averse, and the brand is very much known as an Xbox series.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3

Hmmm....

*Looks at Bioware's Wiki page*

"Untitled Star Wars game Frostbite 3 In development"

*Remembers Spencer loves KOTOR*

*Can see Disney collabing with MS*

*Exclusive star wars title = Megaton*

I remember hearing that Ubi and MS might be getting close and MS getting Co Marketing on Assassins Creed.

What if MS comes in and saves Rainbow Six Patriots from its development hell and its the game?

PoP just seems like a weird fit for MS but Patriots could have been in a similar spot as Dead Rising 3. IE: Cancelled or get the 1th party to fund it and MS paid the bill

Don't play with my heart like this!

Well, it makes sense. With all the hype about the new movies floating around, a exclusive SW game would be a great way to sell consoles (especially if it is called Star Wars: Battlefront)

Not gonna happen though

Even if Microsoft published them it doesn't make it 2nd or 1st party. You think Mass Effect 1 is a first party MS game?! lol!

Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare (timed), TITANFALL. Among their top selling games and all third party exclusives.
You don't know what you're talking about. Ryse ans Mass Effect 1 are first party.

Agreed. I know some people think of this as some kind of great victory for whoever picks it up, but the cache Shenmue has among any audience, even hardcore gamers, is limited at best. It would be an expensive project for a PR bullet-point.

You're right about this only having a limited hardcore sense of cachet as an HD re-release or sequel to them, but what's stopping someone from 'remastering' the game that is already done? Not just HD resolution, but a Halo/Fable Anniversary-style makeover? That could surely attract new fans more easily with everything else looking quite different from it in the current marketplace for games. Hell, Sabre Interactive made the tech possible to emulate an original Xbox game while supporting a completely updated set of audio-visuals and new content simultaneously on the X360 and available to the user at the press of a button or even integrated into the game world itself. What could they do with an Anniversary-style update to OG Xbox Shenmue II that also includes the first on the current-gen console? It doesn't even have to be an MS published thing, just Sega funding a release that is not too different from Halo CE, in terms of budget.

When did the definition of 1st party change? 1st party has always been a OWNED studio. Published is 2nd party, anything else is 3rd party. If you're going to classify 1st party as ANY game that was published, it completely dissolves the meaning of 1st party....which I suspect is the reason for the attempted change in definition to begin with.

ME1 is first party? LOL

Here's how the classification SHOULD work, since it actual creates distinction which is the whole fucking point of classification to begin with.

1st party: owned studio, owned IP
2nd party: published game, owned IP
3rd party: published or non-published game, don't own IP

Look at that, they actually create some distinct meaning!

Owning the IP or not is irrelevant. If the game is both fully funded and published, it's second party.

It's a few pages back, but I posted a link to how Phil Spencer defines 2nd party. He's even answered a question on twitter saying that ME1 is first party (its a unique case given EA's acquisition though), and Dr. Ray even said it was first party.

I know there's a confusion over 1st/2nd party (I used to think 2nd party was what you said) but, the guy I was quoting was saying they were third party, which is far from the truth.
