This game genuinely deserves hype not crap like Order with its "we can't get around gameplay" ideology. Good luck having great level design with that sort of motivation. If only SonyGaf wont treat games as a checklist against MS we could actually get Sony to take quality experiences seriously.

what the hell dude

Maybe they've got Dark soul 3 lock down.
That wouldn't be a very smart purchase.

At best it would divide the Souls fanbase, with the majority favoring PS4. MS should be targeting games that people either associate with Xbox, or with neither first party. Aim for the audience open to both but are undecided, aiming for the Sony audience is wasteful.

EDIT: Some of the more recent posts in this thread are really embarrassing.

It's a really good time to be a Souls fan,and i feel that the community only has themselves to thank for what we're getting now. If it wasn't for the incredibly positive word of mouth from those people who first imported the Asian version of Demon's Souls none of this would have happened today.

Funnily enough, I was one of those people, yet didn't actually beat my Asian copy of Demon's Souls until just a month ago :)

It'll never happen with PS4 and Xbox One when it comes to games. I bet you my left sock.

In a way it is already happening. Because the way the hardware was designed between the two, differences already exist that make one have better features than the other on a regular basis.

Once you go but hole, you never go back
*the deepest sigh*
I would think the object would be to find non-violent solutions. I've been concepting a gameplay premise where the object is to kill as few things as possible - where you actually have negative consequences for killing things. The creatures are what make the world interesting. In my idea, the world actually gets uglier the more you kill. But it becomes more beautiful if you find non-violent solutions to the various puzzles and challenges. I'll admit it might be impossible to make this game compelling for extended periods.
This resembles Darkest Dungeon's concept, though in the case of Darkest Dungeon it's grimdark and the concept is more of a "don't lose your sanity" type system. Rather than more like tendency, which gets closer to white or black in the original Demon's Souls and in theory is similar to what you're proposing. The issue of course with the Souls series is that it's still entirely based around combat, so making a game with legitimate solutions aside from combat probably won't fly. But yeah, I want more games where combat isn't the beginning and the end of any given encounter. Papers, Please and The Stanley Parable are interesting alternates, but again they try to escape combat rather than attempting to toy with it as an option.

Microsoft could pretty easily buy Sony. They could finance the entire thing with debt if they wanted. But why? It's like buying something as dead as the last guardian

Gamespot gave it game of year also help a lot.

Many sites gave it game of the year if i remember correctly but that was after Atlus brought it to the west. Before that none of the big gaming sites were giving a shit about it.
If it wasn't for the unpreceded cult following the game was gathering before it came in the west none of this would have happened IMO.No Atlus/Namco bringing Demon's in the west,no Dark Souls,no Project Beast.

Microsoft could easily buy Sony if they so desired, but I suspect they would have to make it past antitrust statutes in the United States, since Sony is their biggest competitor for hardware sales.

you are really trying it, bro. LOL One heck of a controlled meltdown...

Oh how silly he will look when they show it at this E3.

I know how Kev works, he'll just claim he resurrected it with the Y2Kev Virus!

Y2Kev and Ono are the only people who play at that level.

I eagerly await Kev's cameo in the NeoGAF web series
in particular the part where he falls off his chair :p

Indeed... Sony is not really a solid investment lately.

I'm afraid I've got some bad news

Cyrano seems determined to run this thread into the ground. He almost has the majority of posts in this thread...

I swear he either lost a bet or is trying to win one

Early Demon's Souls importer and word-of-mouth spreader reporting in!

Considering that many here have expressed interest in buying a PS4 for just this game, I'd say it is. How much of a system seller is the question.

I highly doubt that the release of a souls game would have a real measurable impact on console sales.

It really is for the hardest of the hardcore.

For you maybe, for me and for a lot of gamers it is

Good for you. I don´t think that´s how the term System Seller is used though.

It really is for the hardest of the hardcore.

There are still plenty of hardcore gamers who haven't upgraded yet. Games like this would help give that final push.

Haven't seen anyone fulfil my request so I've made my first ever gif.

LOL this is amazing

Seems like you'll have to listen to some Fields of the Nephilim while playing this game.

Seriously though... I always dug this "raggy dusty gothic spaghetti western" style in a "ridiculous but awesome" kind of way. I remember concert audiences in leather coats "dusted" up with flour. Good times. :D

(also of course us scrawny white teens looking like idiots trying to pull this off)

I always wished we'd get a game playing on that style/fantasy. Glad it's happening. And in a From Software game no less. :D

Absolutely not. Will be an amazing game tho.

It completely will be a system seller.

The game won't sell 10's of millions of units but the Souls fanbase are a rabid group, and most of that fanbase is sticking with last gen consoles and PC playing Demon/Dark Souls 1 & 2 constantly telling themselves "I don't need next-gen since Dark Souls 2 is still on last-gen and PC"

Cue "Beast Souls" announcement at E3 exclusively on PS4...there is at the very least 500,000 Souls fans who haven't picked up either an XB1 or a PS4 and they will be all over this.
