Pach-Attack: E3 Nintendo Assumptions.

The point of the tournament is not to be a serious tournament, it's to show the game. It's why the items are gonna be on for the first rounds, they want to show as much as possible. Nintendo also wants to show that they now acknowledges the Smash Competitive Community.

Right, because no one is playing this tournament for anything other than fun.
It's a showcase for a new game. For fun.

Ridiculous idea =/= this idea is horrible and the tournament should be super serious.
I simply think it's kind of ridiculous to think about, that possibly one of the most watched parts of E3 will be a tournament for a game that (assuming each player's played at most 10 hours before hand) won't have been played by non-devs for more than 160 hours.

I thik Pachter is great. Watching his videos, you feel like you have this kooky businessman father who happens to know a whole lot about US videogame publishers. As with dads, he'll occasionally say something ridiculously harsh and ignorant but you forgive him for it because he's older and not as connected and set in his ways. He has a ton of charming stories and a unique perspective that comes off pretty well on Pach-Attack.

His taste in music here is kinda funny too -- "I remember when they used to have cool bands like Sheryl Crow and Maroon 5!"

yeah, why would you do actual research for your own damn job when you can just make shit up
If people will pay you to be an uninformed personality then why would you bother doing research in the first place? Let some other schmuck do that work.

That's fair, sorry for misinterpreting.

Didn't know smash was that popular. Personally don't know anyone who plays it. (Not that that anecdote means anything) just surprised when people are saying this is gonna be the hypest thing. Neat for the fans I guess.

Not only is it a big game but people love events. One of the main reasons people love E3 right? And one of the reasons people lament this move into "Digital Events", bringing up the Twilight Princess reveal back in 2004 etc for this very reason. People love the lights, cameras and action and the Smash Tournament is going to be oozing with all of this. It's fun to watch these pros going at it with the enthusiastic commentary etc and the crowd going wild even if you don't like games or Smash. It's fun to watch.

Huh? Brawl sold over 11 million. "By March 31, 2013, the game has sold 11.49 million units worldwide, according to Nintendo."

This dude is the biggest hack in the gaming industry and yet people keep giving him attention for some bizarre reason. So I guess the joke's on everyone else.

I heard Nintendo isn't even going to be at E3.

They're on the show floor, but they won't have a conference.

Wow. He seriously thought that Nintendo would showcase Smash Bros Brawl at E3 2014?!?

He does the segment pro bono; so yeah, he's not going to bother fact checking when he's just trying to make a point.

I don't know what the ethics of providing unresearched punditry to offer an unsubstantiated negative slant on a company is when your day job includes direct competitors to that company as clients.

Seems sort of market manipulationy.

So you can make a point without checking up your facts? What?

He is exactly like Jason Winter. He takes one side and rolls with it and burns it until there is no ashe left.

No it doesn't. They think it's a better way to get the information out.

Well, he lied about the Direct getting less and less views in that same video, so...

he was not lying he was basically joking to get fans pissed the man said 4 viewers come on now.

seriously BY2K, Nintendo better drop some serious bombs or these cynical bs talks will never stop

it seems a lot of the media do not really have any love for gaming at all. Seriously if you enjoy the hobby trashing one of the founding companies at every chance is not he way to go.

GiantBomb through Gametrailers none of them have any respect for Nintendo as long as they are not providing the next big FPS it is fine to say they have nothing to show.

Do they really think Nintendo being gone helps the industry?

I'm tired of these kinds of videos and mainstream gaming sites because they never cover the Nintendo fan perspective, only catering to the uninformed consumer perception of Nintendo so that has pushed me away from GT and IGN. I guess it's because there aren't enough who demand in-depth Nintendo coverage.

No surprises from Nintendo seems like a pretty safe bet, folks are overreacting over Pachter not remembering exact Nintendo Direct viewers and calling out WiiU's slump.

Pretty much for Wii U. You'll get a Wii U Zelda game in 2016(early footage shown) and maybe one Miyamoto game for Wii U. That's about it. Their digital event(direct) will be filled with the same games we've been seeing from them(Smash, X, Yarn Yoshi, Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, and maybe a few of the indie games coming out). If there are surprises it will be primarily for 3DS.

So an analyst/press member gets mad at a company for no longer catering to the press?

Shocking stuff.

Um, no, not the press, to the general public and Pachter is an analyst, not a press member. Nintendo has turned irrelevant and no one will be watching this 'Direct' except real Nintendo fans. The every day person will have no clue of what comes out of this event. Nintendo is shrinking its userbase on its own. Nintendo is not holding an event to the mass market. As Pachter said, Nintendo is not the same company as it was and I used to be a fan.

Actually, the majority of it will be for WiiU since they'll be covering a range of new GamePad centric titles and their NFP.

The "every day people" watch E3 at all? Since when?

He speaks a lot of truth about everyone on the Internet posting that Nintendo is amazing, yet they don't bother to help Nintendo by buying the console and games. I friggin love my Wii U, bought it on launch and have had it since. Games are amazing, every single one that has come out I have bought and I hope that there are others like me, but if you are going to go on a tirade about how everyone is hating on Nintendo, just make sure you actually are invested in the console.

His call out to their E3 presence wasn't needed. Not everyone needs a gigantic stage to announce their games and show off gameplay, hell we see it regularly throughout the year without E3. Nintendo have chosen to be more direct, and I have a feeling it works well for them, they save a ridiculous amount of money on costs and we the gamers get the content at a much faster pace.

I don't think you get it. Instead of making a presentation to show off it's games at E3 like Microsoft and Sony are doing, Nintendo is doing something stupid, and making a presentation to show off it's games at E3.

There is no difference between what Nintendo is doing, and what MS are doing, unless you're one of the few hundred people invited to the press conference. In the end, most people are watching something online.

just to be clear, I, too, disagree with Nintendo not hosting an E3 show

I agree. While it is a shame, Nintendo should have learned last year that not giving the gaming press their ego stroke will result in negative and sometimes outright untrue coverage of what they are showing.

I mean, is he wrong here with saying Nintendo fans have the "biggest mouths" but don't vote with their wallet?

I was also thinking about this earlier too.

Nintendo threads here in Neogaf are insane, with the number of posts and views they get.

But yet, the Wii U is doing very abysmal.

I don't feel like he is wrong in that regard at all.

You realize you're basically saying NeoGAF is the entire gaming market for the world, right?

I think people are complaining about other things he said. He's been saying that fan thing for a very long time now though.

Investors are his clients, not "direct competitors" of Nintendo.

And MS are one of wedbushes largest stock options, right before Apple.
Seems like there might be a conflict of interest to publically bad mouth a competitor with no real evidence to me, but Im not a market regulator.

Just someone who wonders why someone who is a professional analyst would do freebie work at such an unprofessional level.

Neogaf does not represent the entire gaming market, as big as it is. And not all posts are from all different people.

Because everyone else will watch Sony online with their live conference...which is different how?

He downright said Direct have been getting less and less views, which is completely false. I'm not talking about the 4 guys joke.

that is part of his bullshit to get fans talking, I saw this hours ago and was wondering who was going to make this thread

you fell right into his shit

come on man this is E3 a good time for Nintendo fans to get Hyped

New Zelda U

X

Games we have never seen before man

don't give Pachter your energy

I miss the days when the gaming media had some true Nintendo fans like Matt-IGN before he turned cynical

there is no one out here to enjoy the hype with everyone is shitting on Nintendo, forget about it and enjoy your hobby
