Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

They should've condensed it a bit. Some more surprises than MS but also a duller conference.

Presentation aside, Vita TV, Grim Fandango, No Man's Sky, and Bloodborne fuck yes.

Great start
Died in the middle
Finish pretty strong with batman gtaV and UC4

But once again no TLG. Let the countdown to E3 2015 begin.

Microsoft had a terrible conference, what the hell is everyone going on about? The best thing they had to announce was a collection of four old games, how is that hype worthy?

(ok, sunset overdrive looked pretty rad)

They showed mostly CG trailers to boot. At least Sony had a lot of gameplay segments.

Agreed with the really odd pacing. The Powers stuff really wasn't suited for this conference at all and it would have been much better without it. Overall it was a solid conference though. I'd say Sony/MS conferences were on par with each other this year though it seems like Sony has more lined up for 2015 than MS thus far.

enjoyed the show... the services segment was to long.. and poor shawn first conference and they make him talk about services he should have presented good games to be a fan favorite.. overall enjoyed the show..

MS : B
Sony : C for the long tv segment
UBI : B
EA : F... should have just skipped this year...

overall its good to be a Multi console owner this gen..

Only one from Japan to show his face:

Really disappointing conference. Killed my hype for the Order and Bloodborne being a CGI trailer was a real bummer.

I think they're going to be just fine. They are stacked with games including the best versions of multiplatform games. I don't get this line of thinking. 2015 is going to be super strong for them and MSFT though but 2014 Sony has their ducks in a row. Unless you don't like games?

Their 2 big games for this Holiday are literally ports of games that came out late last year, one of them is multiplatform.

Pretty average E3 from both MS and Sony

I wasn't disappointed. What did people expect? TLG?

+ GTA V
+ Uncharted 4... Was that realtime? :O
+ I don't care about Batman, but OMG did that look good.
+ R&C 1 remake? Did I get that right?
+ Far Cry 4 looks really fun.
+ Infamous DLC (or is it standalone?)
+ No Man's Sky... wow.
+ Grim Fandango. I have never played any of those classic adventure games, so I'm excited.

- No Vita love. But that was to be expected, I'm happy with the Vita as it is.
- TV, TV, TV.
- No big surprises, I guess.

8.5/10

MS: 7/10
Ubisoft: 5/10
EA: 2/10

Feel bad for anyone that trekked to a theater for that. Some cool stuff (MGSV, Bloodborne, w/e that space dinasour sim is) but overall kind of a disappointment. Order is going to be a 6/10 kinda game, calling it now.

*i guess I'm not the biggest uncharted guy but am I only person that kinda hoped "oh shit new IP!!" when Naughty Dog logo flashed before Uncharted 4 trailer?

Of EVERYTHING shown between both conferences, it's quite clear that your taste is crap and severely limited if AC Unity is the only game you take away. What else would you have bought to play your "only game [you] want", assuming you don't have a gaming PC, if you didn't buy the console?

My taste is great, I just don't like sequels on sequels on sequels, or games I can play elsewhere. I'm sorry that AC Unity was a refreshing take on the series, verses a rehashed Uncharted sequel where it'll be more of the same auto-platforming and senseless firefights. My taste isn't crap because I didn't lose my shit at all the sequels and rehashes, my taste is exquisite because I actually want a game with gameplay, not a game based off of a 30 second teaser.

There is no pleasing you guys. Ridiculous standards you guys have, it's quite embarrassing. They showed awesome games and a couple surprises. Dat fucking no mans sky, give it to me nao

No Man's Sky may be awesome, I'll have to see how deep it is. We know the framework, we know nothing of the nuts and bolts.

But this E3 was pretty boring to me. Some good games that we already knew about, and the games that could be great were literally just CGI trailers, which is what they always are.

I just can't get hyped over E3 anymore. I only tune in for the spectacle.

Microsoft: C+
  • I fell asleep towards the end (during The Division).
  • Sunset Overdrive looks really great.
  • Assassin's Creed demo looked great.
  • Less games, more other features would have been nice. I would have like to see them talk about the other features that make it a better value than a PS4 at $399.
EA: Incomplete
  • I faded in and out.
  • Battlefront being one giant cock tease was disappointing.
  • FIFA looks pretty but that may just be World Cup hype talking.
Ubisoft: B+
  • Assassin's Creed, The Crew, Rainbow 6, and Sad WWI Dog looked great.
  • Fitness game and Just Dance segments were entertaining.
  • The Division and Far Cry 4 seem meh.
Sony: A
  • LittleBigPlanet 3 looks amazingly charming.
  • Great to see the TV stuff is actually going somewhere, Powers is a fun comic. I hope we see more image comics get shows in the future (assuming it turns out good).
  • Ratchet & Clank movie looks beautiful.
  • YouTube, PlayStation Now, PlayStation TV, and VR headset all seem interesting.
  • Pacing was bad. I would have preferred if they showed fewer games. Did we really need to spend time on The Order, Bloodborne, MGSV and Batman when they are all so far off?
I can't wait to see what Nintendo brings to the table. The bar has been set.

I went in expecting the world, and that's my own fault. I cannot believe how disappointed I was. That tv show bit. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea to show at E3? I thought they knew what we were expecting. I feel bad for anyone who wasted time going to a theater for that. Not even a god damn demo for Uncharted.

No Man's Sky looks incredible, so there's that. And Bloodborne of course. Very disappointed there was no gameplay. We know they have gameplay so why not show it?

What the hell, Sony? Where's the Last Guardian? :(

I agree. I thought Sony had the better line-up of more intriguing and exciting games. LBP3, Bloodbourne, Grim Fandango (!). The gameplay footage were brilliant as well. They had an extremely lull and dull moment in with the new CEO but it doesn't take away from what I felt was a fantastic beginning and a decently solid end.

It did go from 10/10 then Shawn (while nice) drove the score down to 9. It's one of Sony's best show.

On games shown alone Sony killed it, more games and more exclusives on Ps4, but the structure and the tv shit was awful.

Overall Sony>MS

By the way, the cheering sounded so fake, I was with other guys on chatroom and we all said a lot times "why are they cheering, man ?!".

Complete plants, it was annoying.. like a canned laugh track for a sitcom

Serously this is what they come out with.. after all the success they had in console sales??? Xbox can easily make up ground

Ill give the nod to MS over Sony. Both were pretty similar in all surprises/new games were 2015 and neither blew me away, but at least MS they didn't have 30 minutes of tv/other shit.

MS: B
Sony: B-
Ubi: B-
EA: just turrible

My tastes are probably different than what they were targeting. To me the whole thing was boring, there was way too much talking and a lot of time showing similar games.

I think these conferences need to be no longer than 1 hour. Pick one or two games per genre to demonstrate in depth and show a trailer for signature games. You don't need to drag them all out like Sony did at E3 2006.

Sony's conference for me was only good in that we got to see some debut footage of multiplats. But really, they announced LittleBigPlanet 3 and that Blood game (can't remember the name for the life of me right now) for 2014 and that was it. Everything else we knew about or had been announced before. Very disappointed with their 2014 lineup.

That being said, their 2015 lineup looks strong. Can't wait to see the Uncharted/Halo battle next fall.

Microsoft- B+
EA- C-
Sony- C+
Ubisoft- B-

Microsoft came with nothing but games. Sunset Overdrive is easily my most anticipated game for this year (after Smash) and the Master Chief Collection has serious value and will be a ton of fun to play. Forza Horizon 2 looked amazing as well.

These are my grades so far but Nintendo could easily top all of them because outside MS and Ubisoft, this E3 has been incredibly underwhelming.

It's nice Sony had the exclusive opportunity to show games at their conference, but it doesn't really help them, when many of the games aren't exclusive.

It's a reversal of the 360 E3 days really

I'm willing to bet you Zelda isn't shown.
Nintendo has pretty much said it will be. Hell they said they considered bringing it to LAST E3

Kind of weak conference aside from No Man's Sky.

- The Order gameplay demo was meh
- 10 mins on LittleBigPlanet 3 demo was way too long
- Mostly CG trailers with Project Beast, Dead Island 2, Let It Die, etc
- "TV TV TV" shit with Powers and Ratchet & Clank movie stuff
- Sony doesn't give a fuck about Vita
- Not much new: no Media Molecule, no SSM, no Sony Bend, no Guerilla, no TLG, no cool Morpheus demos or whatever
- Poorly paced. Started off strong and then huge bore for a long stretch. And then their big games at the end were multiplats (MKX, GTAV port, Batman)
- Uncharted 4 looked amazing but the reveal was too short. Was expecting/hoping for a gameplay demo.

The lack of compelling exclusives means I will hold off of jumping into next-gen for a while longer unless Nintendo manages to convince me otherwise tomorrow morning.

LBP3 looks like it could be fun (especially with my friend, since we laughed all the way through the abominable LBP2 online co-op), and Bloodborne is probably already one of my most anticipated games. The Grim Fandango remaster was a nice surprise, as well. The rest of the games were mainly multiplatform titles, though, or timed exclusives like No Man's Sky. (Which is a good thing for me, I guess, since I can just get the better version on PC for cheap later down the line.)

The last 30 minutes saved the conference, but the first 90 were rough.

The Order is pretty but gameplay continues to be a non-presence in everything they've shown.

Bloodborne looks awesome but I have no idea how it'll play, exactly. It looks a little busier than Dark Souls, doesn't it?

Second Son dlc seems ace. LBP looked like LBP. A lot of indie titles punctuated by No Man's Sky, which impresses.

Otherwise things didn't perk up until they showed the TLOU, GTAV, MGSV, and Arkham. So, remasters and multiplats.

Uncharted wins the day simply by showing up, although that would be true no matter what else was shown.

Solid B.

The best 2 demos were cross platform (Batman and Far Cry). Not really interested in LBP anymore and not convinced by The Order yet.

Grim Fandango is super exciting and No Man's Sky looks pretty cool despite its enigmatic presentation.

Decent but MS was better imo. Sony needs to cut their shows down to 1.5hr. They always drag on way too long and get unfocused.

I thought they showed some cool looking games I wanted (No Man's Sky, The Order, Bloodborne) and that white PS4 bundle has me interested, but there was nothing surprising really for me, very little in the way of Japanese games, and nothing big coming out this year.

Hopefully Nintendo delivers the goods.

That was under whelming. Some of the best stuff is not till 2015 and there really is not nothing new for 2014 coming out that is not available elsewhere as well. On a number scale, 6 out 10 from me.

Two games that I was surprised did not get any footage other than in the montage for both platforms.... MS & Quantum Break and Sony & Drive Club. Was surprised they did not have a segment.

In terms of pacing, they were damn bad. That middle part was a bore.

In terms of games, they exceeded my expecations and had the best conference of the lot.
