Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

This thread is pure gold. It's like every other post is "MS 12/10 and Sony was shit nogamezz". Then the next post is "Sony killed it, all MS showed is Halo rehash, blah blah."

Keep em coming!
lol, yep. Everything has to be sky is falling or best thing ever, the only effective opinions are extreme opinions. :/

No Man's Sky may be awesome, I'll have to see how deep it is. We know the framework, we know nothing of the nuts and bolts.

But this E3 was pretty boring to me. Some good games that we already knew about, and the games that could be great were literally just CGI trailers, which is what they always are.

I just can't get hyped over E3 anymore. I only tune in for the spectacle.

People are cursing Sony for no show crash, an ip they no longer own. They showed a crap load of diverse games that appeals to many people. People are expecting megaton after megaton. The show was great eexcept for the middle part, the was dumb.

Horrible conferences today. All this "for the gamer" talk but exclusive/timed content nonsense aimed at marginalising players on other consoles just stinks of shit. Minor showing for uncharted was a massive letdown. All this TV TV TV COMICS crap with mr slow-talker felt like a business meeting.

I just think I'll avoid these conferences from now on.

Seriously, this conference was extremely underwhelming. Only "AAA" games besides UC4 that got me excited was Bloodborned. Everything else looked so tired and boring.

The indie titles looked great though. Very excited for ABZU and No Mans Sky. Those are the only games that really looked unique and not a rehash of the same shit we've been playing. But really thats it.

Add that cringeworthy 30 minutes of that dude in glasses making lame jokes and the absolutely boring finish, I cant in any way say I enjoyed this conference at all.

I hope Nintendo has a few surprises tomorrow to salvage E3 this year. Both MS and Sony were disappointing. I dont care about movies or mini series or POWER or other social home stuff. I dont care about remakes and ports. There were very few NEW exclusive titles for both these guys. Even as someone who hasnt been keeping up with leaks and announcements, I feel like I've known about the stuff announced today for a while now.

79% Sony
71% Microsoft
64% Ubisoft
46% EA

Sony won clearly but would have been significantly better without boring comic book guy, TV shows and boring stats. Also what the heck was going on with that double Vib Ribbon mention not turning into an announcement. I mean that was just so odd.

Oddly specific margins/percentages, but this mirrors my list and scoring.

I didn't watch the other conferences, but I can't imagine how awful they are if people seriously thought Sony's was better.

Waiting for Nintendo's.
If you were disappointed, blame the leaks,
I can blame them for not showing the actual gameplay that was leaked.

So far my will buy (in the near future) list is:

Sony: Grim Fandango

Microsoft: Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Forza Horizon 2

Nintendo: TBD

PC: Batman, GTA 5

(It's possible I'm forgetting something)

Microsoft: C+
  • I fell asleep towards the end (during The Division).
  • Sunset Overdrive looks really great.
  • Assassin's Creed demo looked great.
  • Less games, more other features would have been nice. I would have like to see them talk about the other features that make it a better value than a PS4 at $399.
EA: Incomplete
  • I faded in and out.
  • Battlefront being one giant cock tease was disappointing.
  • FIFA looks pretty but that may just be World Cup hype talking.
Ubisoft: B+
  • Assassin's Creed, The Crew, Rainbow 6, and Sad WWI Dog looked great.
  • Fitness game and Just Dance segments were entertaining.
  • The Division and Far Cry 4 seem meh.
Sony: A
  • LittleBigPlanet 3 looks amazingly charming.
  • Great to see the TV stuff is actually going somewhere, Powers is a fun comic. I hope we see more image comics get shows in the future (assuming it turns out good).
  • Ratchet & Clank movie looks beautiful.
  • YouTube, PlayStation Now, PlayStation TV, and VR headset all seem interesting.
  • Pacing was bad. I would have preferred if they showed fewer games. Did we really need to spend time on The Order, Bloodborne, MGSV and Batman when they are all so far off?
I can't wait to see what Nintendo brings to the table. The bar has been set.

I think that Nintendo has a big leap in front of them. Sony's conference was really strong. The problem is that Nintendo can "win" the hearts of gamers like us but it won't matter one difference to the mainstream. These shows used to be for guys like us to go out and hype our mainstream friends. Now, everyone follows these events in some fashion. I doubt Nintendo can sway them because of some weird idea that playing their games makes a person immature.

The pacing and timing were off.

Batman and GTA:V should have been moved to the first half of the show and replaced the time slot for Bloodborne, and Bloodborne should have been moved to the end of the show and should have had gameplay footage attached to it.

Then, when that ends, you segue directly into Uncharted 4 and end the show.

The PS4 is my only 'next gen' console at this stage (I'm also a PC gamer), and I'm amazed that anyone could claim the conference was higher than a 6-7. What did they show? Mostly multiplatform games, a mediocre platformer (LBP3) as their big fall release and lots of TV stuff that is irrelevant to anyone outside the US. Their 2014 lineup is pretty terrible, only thing that looks decent this year (that I can't get on PC) is the Infamous DLC and The Last of Us remastered (which I've already played on PS3).

You want bad cheering plants in the crowd, look no further than EA's conference. They seemed to have hired a chorus of screechy women to cheer loudly to almost every announcement. The over-reaction to the Sims announcement in particular was hilarious.

omg that was so awful. Tons of sequels, rehashes, and so little new that if it was shown I forgot. And then the TV Bit, and then no Lightning HD collection.

Microsoft won this one easily for me, and I still have no intention of buying their console.

Sony's highlights were the Grim Fandango exclusive remaster and timed exclusives for No Man's Sky and Abzu.

Bleh.

Aside from the stuff about t.v Sony still showed more/better content thus winning in my book, by a decent amount too. MS had a good show but, for me, Sony buried them.

I dont care too much for presentation, i wanted to see games and gameplay and sony delivered a lot more even if they diverted to talking about TV for a few minutes. I would be mad if it was their MAIN focus but it was obviously not.

Sony started good, then lost all that momentum and finished strong though. I think it was a B conference for them. I think MS conference was C+, I like Halo

MS had the best conference and kind of sold me on a xb1, closely followed by Ubisoft.
Sony and EA were pure dissapointment

My taste is great, I just don't like sequels on sequels on sequels, or games I can play elsewhere. I'm sorry that AC Unity was a refreshing take on the series, verses a rehashed Uncharted sequel where it'll be more of the same auto-platforming and senseless firefights. My taste isn't crap because I didn't lose my shit at all the sequels and rehashes, my taste is exquisite because I actually want a game with gameplay, not a game based off of a 30 second teaser.

Aside from the one game you keep mentioning (Uncharted) as a rehashed sequel versus the unique, superior, completely original AC: Unity that doesn't borrow in any way from its predecessors, there were many other exclusives mentioned. There weren't only rehashes and sequels, but a number of original and exclusive IPs were shown.

AC: Unity looks great, yes, but you're full of it if you think it's without similar elements to previous installments.

Lol at people here not happy with Sony's conference.
That was the strongest games line-up out of all that was shown today.
With the announcement of LBP3 coming in November even their autumn window isn't completely void of exclusives - as it was previously after The Order delay.
Date for TLoU PS4 and release year for UC4.
The Order gameplay which looked really interesting now.
A new load of smaller / indie titles which are either exclusive or timed exclusive.
I don't know how it could've been better.

Sony had a few games that I want but that was a pretty unexciting watch. I feel bad for the people who went to theaters for that mess

Structure wise MS murdered them

I agree and was actually surprised they didn't talk about sales. I bet Sony will wait until Gamescom for that or maybe release it via press release.

I do think the approach was good for the most part for the Sony presser even if they did have to talk about some of their new products and services which makes sense. The Powers stuff didn't hook me but on games alone, the pace was great when they were on games and they did a bang up job with the letters segment with Boyes.

I think it was an above average conference, highlights being suda51's manhunt like online project and UC4, but the true highlight was GAF not going down even once for me this e3.

Hats off!

They showed a lot more than MS, and had much less third party stuff on.

A+

Loved all the sequels. Sony's brands are pretty much matching Nintendo's in terms of relevance. Did y'all hear that applause of Uncharted 4?

the (applause) clapping (applause) was (applause) constant (applause) throughout(applause) the(applause) whole(applause) conference (applause)

lol it started getting irritating.

i felt like i enjoyed the 1886 demo tho i dont see how it looked "boring"

My rankings:

Microsoft: B+. They had games, they had biggish games, they put them out one after another. It was well paced, they had surprises. I am more interested in the Xbone after this conference. A new Phantom Dust, fucking whaaaat? They also didn't try to make "exclusive content" mean anything. They didn't try to make "console debuts" mean anything. They knew what mattered.

EA: F-. They should've won that golden turd award again after that shit show.

Ubisoft: B-. It was pretty entertaining. Aisha Tyler owns. You got to see the sort of creativity boiling underneath the company with stuff like that WW1 Dog game and the really neat exercising title. That fake ass alpha of Tom Clancy was actually kinda tense and neat to watch, also it's a new Rainbow Six! Wooooo! Weighed down by footage of stuff we already knew, stuff we already can imagine how it plays out (like Assassin's Creed 8 or whatever.)

Sony: C-. Underwhelming, really underwhelming. They had the Grim Fandango and Bloodborne announcement, but nothing more than concept art and CG. They had the Vita TV announcement, but we can already expect the support it'll get from the eastern release (little.) Unlike Microsoft, they really tried to make EXCLUSIVE CONTENT mean something. Little Big Planet 3 is nice, but it's the fifth or sixth iteration. Meeeeeh. Then you had other department shilling, you had "console debuts" of smaller releases that are just... Eh? FUCKING VIB RIBBON TEASING TOO.

The complete absence of Square Enix at all is super surprising to me. What the hell is going on with FF15 and KH3? Also, someday they have to actually delever on Half Life 3, The Last Guardian, Fallout 4 and Beyond Good and Evil 2, right? How long are those games going to take?

Maybe next year is the E3 for the ages with all those games being shown.

Great show. I'd put it roughly on par with MS's this year. Lots of good games, some with a niche/hardcore focus (Bloodborne, Devolver segment, Grim Fandango, etc). Bit of a lull in the middle, as is usual with Sony press conferences.

Two mentions of VIB Ribbon though...

Mixed feelings on the Sony Conference...if you take out the TV portion then they win hands down...but that really drained a lot of momentum...

I'll give it a soft B+ (gave MS a solid B) or a 7.5-8/10 (gave MS a 7-7.5/10)

ya they just had 40 min of cg trailers lol

I don't think that's so bad comparatively. Sony's most interesting game to me and many others was a CG trailer (Bloodborne), a CG trailer is better than a CG teaser (Uncharted 4) and a CG trailer was definitely better than whatever was going on with Little Big Planet 3. Plus it had a CG trailer to Kamiya's new game and a new Phantom Dust.

Keep em coming!

Not much different from the MS thread...were people were bitching about MS having paid exclusive content on many games and 9-10 hours later, Sony is doing the same thing. So many were posting shit in the MS thread because of the "first on Xbox" or "exclusive on Xbox" and here we heard the same thing.

I really wish that we could wipe all this bullshit away and go back to when Nintendo and Sega were duking it out...back then, exclusive titles were everywhere for each platform, Sega in particular were amazing on making a ton of 1st party games. Just seems everything is way too 3rd party heavy.

They should have cut out the TV junk and also stop constantly dropping buzzwords in between every presentation. The Microsoft conference didn't particularly inspire me (personal preferences) but I liked how it was a constant barrage of trailers with only small live introductions for each one.

The games at the end looked great but the long middle totally killed any hype I had at that point. Also more Fetch <3

and Sony truly hates the Vita confirmed

Mhm... I really didn't like their Vita showing.

Although I did expect the Vita being relegated to a PS3/4 peripheral, it really sucks that virtually nothing new was announced for it, even with the Vita TV coming (which itself has ditched the Vita name entirely).

It kinda sucks.

Good conference.
There were some woefully boring parts and the show was unnecessarily bloated(As usual), but I liked a lot of what I saw.
I think MS and SONY are pretty evenly matched on this one.
However, MS was a lot more focused than SONY was and that made their conference more fun to watch overall.
I'm really looking forward to Uncharted, LBP3, and No Man's Sky.
I don't think I'll be picking up a PS4 anytime soon though, the fall looks kind of barren in terms of SONY 1st party.

Face it fellow CB fans, Crash is dead and buried. :,(

I loled at the wait for applauses on minecraft vita.

Vita got the shaft a lot harder than I anticipated
