Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

A friend of mine is talking shit about how MSoft destroyed Sony in exclusives today, and I'm just drunk enough to dispute him, because at first drunken recollection they both seem pretty close

MS:
Sunset Overdrive
Crackdown 3
Halo 1-5
Scalebound

Sony:
The Order
Project Beast (Bloodborne, was it? Can't remember the final name)
Little BigPlanet 3
Uncharted 4

What exclusives am I missing from today?

Xbox One
-Forza Horizon 2
-Crackdown 3
-Phantom Dust
-Halo Collection
-Ori & the Blind Forest
-Project Spark
-Sunset Overdrive
-Fable Legends
-Scalebound

Playstation 4
-The Order
-Little Big Planet 3
-Bloodborne (Project Beast)
-Uncharte 4
-Magicka 2
-Grim Fandango (timed exclusive)
-The Last of Us Remaster
-Let it Die (Suda 51)

Those are from today. But also there is Halo 5, Quantum Break and Gears of War for MS. And Lilly Bergamo, Deep Down, DriveClub and Rime for Sony.

Overall, I prefer MS line-up. But Sony line-up is not bad at all, and tbh, my most wanted title will be on PS4 (Uncharted 4).

Ps.: Is "No Man's Sky" exclusive for PS4? Or will it be released on Xone / PC too?

fable, forza horizon?

I think even though Microsoft won by a bit (IMO), they didn't do nearly enough to turn sales in their favor. They needed footage from Gears or Halo 5 to do that. Nothing shown realtime or gameplay wise really blew me away. They didn't have that Gears 1 reveal moment from the 360 that I think they needed. The Uncharted reveal gave me that "This console can do something really remarkable" kind of feel. Just a taste of it though.

Goodnight, sweet Prince.

I'm not shitting on people's opinions by any means necessary, if that's what you're implaying. If you know what happens on GAF this time of year you know where I'm going at.

OT: To be all that honest, Sony's conference wasn't all that great last year as far as hype went last year, or any past years for that matter. I think Sony should get some marketing agency to help clean up some of the bloat they seem to have every year.
He's a new member with 15 posts in this thread, discussing his opinion fairly articulately.
You're an old member with 19 posts in this thread, including gems such as:
And of course

Better be careful, there's fanboys about. Good thing we have you here to protect honest, decent opinions.

I was being Ironic with each and every single one of those posts lol.
I'm used to being overly hyped on E3 threads, look at my posts on Smash, Nintendo, Xbox, and Sony.
This guy however has only posted on here to shit on this one conference, it is just plain fishy.

Aside from obvious ones like Xbox fansites the general belief on gamefaqs, IGN, Gamespot, and /v/ was that the MS show sucked a little bit less.

Interesting. People thought all the conferences sucked? Maybe I had low expectations or something but I really enjoyed both the conferences haha.

I do think more companies should follow MS's snappy style though. You can still announce TV Shows (they announced that Halo TV show right?) and introduce games that aren't really something which is popular with the fans (Fantasia, Dance Central) but just make it short and quick and move on.

Sony has some games that are only pc/ps4 do those count?

Well, I'd give the edge to whoever has the most releases this year instead of 2015.

E3 is not about games that are releasing before the end of the year though... its much more far reaching than that. Its about the future of games, and I'd say the future is bright across ALL platforms. Unquestionably.

... which is who?

I'm too drunk to remember!

Except now that painful conker tease is coming back for that spark game... so that's another point in microsoft's exclusive catergory

Out of your list, adding Forza Horizon 2, the highlights are coming in 2014 from what I know.:

MS:
Forza Horizon 2
Sunset Overdrive

Crackdown 3
Halo 1-5
Scalebound

Sony:
The Order
Project Beast (Bloodborne, was it? Can't remember the final name)
Little BigPlanet 3
Uncharted 4

Xbox One
-Forza Horizon 2
-Crackdown 3
-Phantom Dust
-Hallo Collection

-Fable Legends

Sony
-Destiny (lots of content)
-The Order
-Little Big Planet 3
-Bloodborne (Project Beast)
-Uncharte 4
-Magicka 2
-Grim Fandango (timed exclusive)
-The Last of Us Remaster
-Let it Die (Suda 51)

teh fuck?

I know it will be a while until we see it, but I feel its still a good thing to market it. Games cost a crap load of money to make and I think the should market early as hell. Mega IP, MEGE marketing, hell look at Halo 5. Shown at this years, last years and clearly will be shown next year. They are marketing it up. The damn trailer isn't going to make it release any faster so they might as well use this time during development to let everyone know how epic it is and leave room open to make epic things happen upon release

I was gonna wait till i got back from work to see some of the trailers but couldnt resist watching some before work and oh my net gen is certainly here dont know where to start the few ive had chance to look t mortal kombat surprises me even though its rare i play fighting games and of cause the ones we already know about ugh a lot of thee games looks amazing cant wait to get back and see more dont wanna watch em to a small s4.

Entire post history, ladies and gents.

Sometimes doing this works. This time... not so much. And considering the work you went to, the gif you ended with may apply better to someone other than him.

In my opinion it was by far the biggest announcement at Sony's Press conference. GTA5 was so good and held back by last gen hardware.
My biggest thing I got out of today is that GTA V will probably come to PC the same day.

Dude I had no idea where the hell he was going with that, then all of a sudden Mortal Kombat showed up. That was so weird.
The guy is a bonafide imbecile for that, I agree. Keep Layden the hell away from E3 from now on. He's already established himself as the Don Mattrick of Sony, and all it took was half an hour on stage.
I mean, I didn't get my hopes up with the first mention and attributed it to building cred, but after the second and third mention I started to get hyped. "Surely they wouldn't mention it so many times unless they were going to announce something right!? They've barely ever ever acknowledged this game's existence in North America since it originally released!". He kept building up and building up to something unclear for so long, going on about the spirit of Playstation experiences, AND THEN SHOWS MORTAL KOMBAT GAMEPLAY!! AAAGGHH! At least it was good gameplay.

Forza Horizon 2 and Ori and the Blind Forest are due out this year on Xbox One. Fable Legends beta this year, release next year. There's also Dance Central Spotlight and Fantasia, but I doubt you'd count those.

FWIW, I don't think either one destroyed the other. Both had a lot of good stuff to show.

People will always hype themselves up too much and then get upset because E3 didn't meet their high standard.

Personally I thought both shows were decent but nothing great.

So Sony's new exclusive lineup for the back half of this year:

Entwined (today)
TLOU Remastered
Helldivers
Hohokum
Infamous First Light Standalone DLC
Driveclub
Little Big Planet 3

Not bad I suppose. LBP3 really helps a ton. I'm betting we see more last minute surprises at Gamescom.

Yeah, somehow I would not be surprised if they have one more for Gamescom.

I liked everything about Sonys press conference including the brief tv info. I felt that Shawn Layden isn't as charismatic as the other presenters or Jack and his segment slowed things down but overall it was the best conference today and next years E3 showing will be just as great (even better if they cut down on the yapping)

Hopefully the rule of thumb for next year is to not expect TLG lol Way too many people set themselves up for dissapoinent.

I kept waiting for Shawn Layden to remove his mask to reveal it was Don Mattrick trolling Sony's preso the entire time.

Clutching at straws with Destiny and Magika 2 surely? And grim fandango for that matter. Both lists should be much longer of you want to include all the dlc, timed and PC games/content

I'd say Sony won the show just because of the mention of Grim Fandango. Truely awesome, unexpected and just soooo long awaited

What's the PS gift for attending the theater E3 show? The code on back of my lanyard? It has a picture of the ORder, so I'm guessing it's a beta access?

Layden needs a "face of Playstation" more than Jack ever did. I always found Jack to have charm. Seeing him in this conference and in his past interview on GT was pretty rough. I just think he was a bit nervous though, you could really tell in how he carried himself and his nervous reactions.

The Last of Us wasn't severely handicapped.

It was a technical marvel...but...

Digital Foundry said:
With that said, the high level of graphical quality is occasionally let down by visibly low-resolution textures, shimmering across long edges and sub-pixel details on more complex scenery. Alpha buffers, reflections and depth-of-field are also rendered in low resolution, leading to the jagged appearance of geometry edges when these elements intersect with characters and parts of the scenery.

Digital Foundry said:
Perhaps due to the level of detail on offer in the environments, we also never see the same kind of large-scale set-pieces that helped define the Uncharted titles. Instead Naughty Dog appears to have traded down on the scale of the action to realise larger and more lavish environments while managing overall performance. It's mostly successful in this, too, although the exhaustive range of visual effects, lighting, AI and gameplay sub-systems clearly affects the overall fluidity of the experience.

Digital Foundry said:
For the most part things haven't changed in the final game: more technically demanding scenes still cause the frame-rate to buckle under the rendering load, although we find that heavier drops in performance have a greater impact on the action when it is situated in larger, more expansive environments.

Digital Foundry said:
It's also fair to say that The Last of Us is placing serious demands on the PS3 hardware, and at times we get the feeling the console is struggling to keep up with the engine's strict v-sync to prevent tearing.

I could keep going but the game stressed the PS3 hardware to it's limits and beyond...there were compromises all over the place and the frame rate chugged at times...

It was absolute sorcery that ND was able to achieve what they did..but it certainly held back the game...

To be honest, I wasn't aware the graphical upgrade is that monumental. Is it?

Over double the rendered pixels...double the frame rate...lighting and texture upgrades...yeah its significant...

Sorry, I saved this list on my PC and forgot to remove Destiny. But wont Magika 2 be exclusive?

Not only that, but the ammount of exclusive content they have on 3rd parties is mindblowing. MS went for timed exclusive dlc content. Sony went for exclusive features, game modes, etc, for several games. The Far Cry 4 announcement was godlike. You can play co-op with anyone on your friend list and they don't have to own the game?

Unbelievably stupid move by Ubisoft, but an amazing feature.

We can argue all night but I think we can all agree on one thing, that was the worst possible first impression Layden could have made. Like, I honestly hope he's not on stage next year. Just give the whole event to Adam Boyes.

It's on PC as well. Grim Fandango seems the same way but needs confirmation. I just think you've missed a ton of stuff from both pressers if you want to include that content. The lists would be much longer

The ability to copy GTA5 game saves from the 360 was really clever.

I don't know how anyone can say MS had a better show than Sony. No way.

For months after Phil was appointed head of Xbox we've had nothing but twitter tweets posted and hype about an amazing E3 show. But in reality it was average. The so called early reveals was to free up space because they have too many games to show. Instead we ended up seeing some of the exact same games. The way their conference was talked about i was expecting a major surprise and exclusive games to affect the PS4. Nothing like that was shown. They were the ones that had alot to prove.

Yeah I think Microsoft definitely set expectations high. Don't get me wrong, I think they did really well today. Honestly, this E3 was Sony's to lose and to me it seemed they kept Microsoft in check (though I think Microsofts fall exclusive line up is way stronger, even though I am super psyched for LBP3). I dont think either conference put their respective firms and consoles over. I

That being said, Microsoft is coming from a trailing position and needed to knock it out of the park MORE than what they did. Did they make up for last year's E3? Yes and then some. But I dont think they outshone Sony and if they did, not by enough. Now, on top of that you have weeks/months of Microsoft setting wildly high expectations in the general public for E3 and to me it didnt seem to match that. On the Sony side, it seemed more like the expectations were of our own making.

Honestly, in the end, if we are reviewing the conferences, it feels like a wash. For Sony, that's fine, but for Microsoft that's a negative. However, as gamers, its which ever firm has the game and consoles that speak to you most. I just wish SCEA and SCEE wouldnt pretend one of those consoles didnt exist...

How does GAF feel about the ridiculous amounts of moneyhatting Sony is now doing? They feel worse than MS now. I cringed everytime they announced a multiplat and just had to mention some exclusive content blah blah blah they had secured.

Both sides have been doing it, but it really came across as obnoxious from Sony here. The exclusive Hulk smash in Disney Infinity took the cake.

I still can't get over how bloated this conference was. Almost two hours and it dragged for a large portion of them. Not to mention audio issues, an incompetent director, and the part where "HULK SMASH" played over the speakers for no reason and interrupted someone speaking.
