PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

$99 for the standard edition, $139 for bundle including DS3, download for Lego Movie Game and 8GB memory card.

Will grant you access to some Vita titles, PS1 games, PSP games, PS4 Remote Play + the PS3 library from PS Now.

Sony Europe confirmed it is also coming to Europe at €99.

I will get this as soon as PS Now comes to Europe.

I know, but don't you think that all those things would be more effective with a better name? "Playstation Tv" is just confusing, Sony will need half of the very few advertising to explain what it is and the result will probably be not that better than what Nintendo gained adding a "U" to "Wii".
Something like "Playstation Universe/Legacy/Media/All In One/Whatever Hub" or something similar would have been a lot better.
Adding U to Wii meant nothing though. It was Nintendo trying to be clever and utterly failing. Playstation TV on the other hand does mean something. People already know the addition of TV to a brand means steaming device courtesy of Apple TV, Fire TV etc. People also know what playstation is. I don't think it's that bad of a name consequently. That said they need to clearly differentiate it from Fire TV/Apple TV/Roku etc in the adverts they make for it.

Missed the boat here, Sony. I wanted a Vita TV to play PSP games but now I have a Go + PPSSPP, and a 2000 that serves as a UMD ripper.

Maybe if I can get one on clearance someday...

I guess you are right, i didn't think about Apple Tv/Fire Tv etc, but i still think that a more explicit name would have been better.

DanganRonpa should be fine right? I'd buy one just for that game.

Considering that Danganronpa was one of the games they demoed for it on a Japanese ad for the Vita TV, I'd imagine it'll run fine.

More generally speaking I'd imagine any PS2/PS3/PSP port will be fine on the Vita TV. It's the "native" games that will be hit or miss depending on how integral the touchscreen controls are and how many fucks the developers give.

I wonder if the US version will be locked to the US store like the Japanese one was to it's store.

That' fine however as I have a US account and prefer to use it. Plus you have more PSP games and all your PS1 classics run at 60hz unlike the European classics on PSN.

Then they can use the leverage of extra Vita TVs sold to convince more devs to put games on it, like they already did with Disney Infinity 2. Disney Infinity 2, Minecraft and a few other indie games would be pretty much a perfect christmas gift if SCEA advertised it right.

You might be right.
$99 ia always the perfect price for a good Christmas gift.
Well, anything that is below $100 that adds apps streaming, web browsing, and gaming should probably sell like hot cake in West.
Just do a simple package with words like: Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, HBO Go(maybe they will finalize it in time) in one box! Boom, instant winner to our TV loving culture.

That's pretty much as market-appropriate of a name as there could be. It runs some Playstation 1, Playstation Portable, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation Vita and Playstation 4 games. Hits every console but isn't compatible with the full library of any.

It's a Playstation TV.

I hope this means more media apps for Vita (and PS4).

I'm tempted to grab one for the spare room just for remote play PS4 games. If they add iplayer/netflix/amazon instant video etc then I could switch out my Apple TV.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use this to play a game that uses both the DS4 and keyboard? I'm thinking FF14.

I'll actually be well within range of the PS4 to use them natively, but wondering if that will be possible or if you'll need to hook up all peripherals to the PSTV for them to work while streaming through it.

I think someone who owns a Japanese one might be able to test it now.

They had Bluetooth keyboard support for the Vita TV apparently for a while before adding it to all Vitas with the last update.

I kept my 32GB memory card when I upgraded to 64GB speculating on this announcement. I'm very excited and glad I made the right call.

Day One for me. I want to play Persona 4 Golden and Disgaea 4 on a big screen. I was worried due to how bad it did in Japan, they would have killed it. It will also boost Vita game sells since you do not need the system now to play them. If they allow Vita apps in it, it can be a Roku competitor.

It has 1GB built in, so it technically doesn't need a memory card, though you'd have to juggle the space carefully and some games won't work at all.

I'm more surprised they didn't even give the 1GB in the original Vita model. :( For a while I couldn't do anything on my Vita because I forgot to get the memory card.

Lol, Sony is not good at all at backward compatibility and compatibility in general.

Will this play Ys Celceta? I checked the Japanese compatibility list and didn't see it...I'm assuming any Vita game with touch screen/pad features won't work on this? =/

Ys is on there!

I wonder if they'll force compatibility patches or something for more games... just how many are actually compatible out of the Vita's library? >_>

Why is Tales of Innocence R compatible while Tales of Hearts R is not?

Glad this is finally coming west... a cartridge based console in 2014? I'm definitely in.

Mostly to play all the great PSP games I missed.

How does the controller situation work with this in terms of pairing? If I have my PS4 downstairs and PSTV upstairs and want to remote play, will I have to resync my one controller every time I want to use it on the other device?

Good, do we know if Killzone Mercenary has TV support?

http://search.jp.playstation.com/se...&group=1&query=killzone&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

Doesn't look like it. :[

Looks like you need to constantly resync OR have a USB cable handy.

I hope they patch out the touch screen stuff out of Mercenary. The game would be better for it.

Their insistance on bundling this with a DS3 baffles me. Are they struggling to produce DS4 or something? I mean, in terms of inputs it's a lot closer to a Vita.

So, uh, pardon my ignorance, but you can just buy PSTV and download (or buy retail copies) of Vita games? No PS3 or PS4 needed?

Only the Japanese version. The Vita TV compatibility patch was not ready in time for the western release. XSEED's said they might bring over the patch if the Vita TV got a western release though.

Yes, it's basically a Vita in a little box.

The decision meshes well with the "all in one" sort of experience that the device offers. If you're going to play PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP games on the PlayStation TV, a DS3 is closer to those controllers' inputs.

I imagine that it is also because it's pricier to pack in the DS4. :x

Killzone is supposed to be recieving a patch for PS/Vita TV support. (mentions it near the bottom)

Ah. Will they be implementing that soon? Would make a lot of sense for it to come out alongside the PlayStation TV.

Essentially, yes. But not every title is compatible.

I wonder just how many titles are going to get patches for the Western release.

Unfortunately the Vita TV currently out in Japan/Asia only works with Asian PSN accounts. So yes, the Vita TV is region-locked (I think retail gamecards of different regions are hit-or-miss).

I wonder if they'll remove the region lock for the Western launch.

It's not region locked, it just doesn't support accounts from regions it hasn't been released in.
