PlayStation Stars coming to a close as SIE evaluates new ways to evolve future Loyalty Program efforts

That sucks, I always redeem the $5 store credit soon as I have the points for it. It made digital purchases ever so slightly more tolerable, and they added up over time.

I found the wording funny. Basically it blames Nintendo: "adapt to the latest trends in the gaming community". Bullshit!

To me, this program was the same as Nintendo gold coins. Every couple games I buy, I'd get $5 back. Sad to see Nintendo and Sony shy away from pro-consumer programs. As invested as I am into my Switch and PlayStation ecosystem, every couple days I question it. I'm about another 3-4 bad calls before giving up completely and joining the PC master race.

Kind of lame. Never gave a shit about the collections but got a decent amount of gift cards through the years. Had about 3000 points and just claimed $10 before I forgot and lost everything.

My main problem with this program is it was all about Playstation and nothing else. You get points by spending on Playstation and you can only use them on Playstation.

Microsoft's program works because you can get points from any Microsoft product, be it Bing, Office etc. It encourages you to be a loyal customer of Microsoft, not just Xbox.

Sony needs to go back to the drawing board and ensure that its other products are included as part of a larger and brand-wide loyalty program, be it TVs, Soundbars, Crunchyroll etc.

The other thing is they never bothered to integrate this program into the console OS and try to shape habits there too. Anytime I'd check in for the month I'd get a mobile app notification but no feedback while I'm actually engaging with the product!

For some reason I thought this happened last year, so I've been redeeming $5 credits as soon as possible in case they canned it. It was a good program but along with Nintendo, it seems like they don't feel they need extra encouragement to push digital. My guess is the administration costs of the program is significantly more than the credits people are earning.
This is what I did too. I think I got like $10-20 out of it all.

Don't think there ever have been anything that gives coin rewards in the app that I own or play.

Edit:
Also since I almost never buy digital games... Advancing in that app have not been possible.

Playstation realised their userbase actually plays games and was stacking up points very easily.
I bet they thought it would boost engagement but it was just a way of making less money from those already logging hours regularly.

Is that the case? Pc gaming is growing and switch 2 is getting more third party support.
Pc is not for everbody, so is the Switch. Switch 2 is already weaker than the much criticized Series S. I don't even want to see how games run on it in like 5 years.
If you want a capable full grown home console you only have one choice.

I think it was a nice program and I got many 5-10€ discounts through it.
The issues were:

1. They promised at launch full console integration with the possibility to look at your digital collectibles on the console. It never happened and the whole program was restricted to the app that many people don't use.
2. The activities were not retroactive so you had to buy certain stuff or accomplish certain in-game tasks necessarily after they told you to do so. Too bad that they always tried to exclude preorders from rewards to limit the amount of points and collectibles given to users.

So the idea wasn't fully developed, they limited adoption by themselves leaving it as an app-only thing also I had the feeling they wanted to backtrack on the points/discounts stuff (for example the 5-10€ discount cards disappeared for a few weeks) so leaving only the digital collectibles part was too weak to keep the program alive.

Sad to hear, I've easily earned 150-200 euros back over the years just by being in the program and buying games as I normally would. I guess it was too good to be true.

Oh yeah i hated that shit.

They'd always put reward points for new games after a month after launch.

I put the blame on totoki for this service going, promised were made under jim abut never fullfilled once he left with no doubt totoki not wanting paying back the customers.

I have seen quite a few die hard console fans switching over. User habbits don't change over night tho.

FFS, it's taken me 2 years to secure 200 of 800 points needed for that Deacon St John collectible. Now I'll never get it wahhh.

Yeah this happened to me just recently with Expedition 33. Bullshit.

The new trend is to announce things with zero warning, especially with how fast news travels. Companies are afraid to give a heads up because they know people will take advantage of a good deal. Giving them a timeline just creates urgency and draws attention when they'd rather bury this news.

My guess is that they don't want consumers to get cashback.

As I redeem my last playstation stars credit, I can just hear the screams of bean counter totoki.
