Halo Master Chief Collection: H1-4. H2 full remaster. 1080p60. $59.99 Nov 11 Xbox One

This thread is confusing, all these different engines, a 2nd halo 2 map-engine MP mode? this is not going to help until microsoft clear this all up fully and explain what's going on with the MP side of things other then they can play in the same hoppers.

Part of the halo 2 anniversary thing makes me think it was originally in works for the 360 but was bought over to this collection, the updated visuals match what H1A was given, if not a little worse.

will type up a thread to consolidate the info. gimme a few moments

There is nothing really wrong with Halo 3 apart from aliasing, field of view and character models. They could fix the former two and with a little effort the latter. Character models are the only major eyesore.

Add some polys to keyes and the captian's head and all is good.

Bit of a Mega post but just making it to outline to people still confused everything that is in this Halo collection.

Halo CE:Anniversary Campaign. (2 player co-op)
CE:A Old to New Graphics Switching
Halo CE (XBOX 1) Multiplayer in 1080p 60fps (No graphic changes)
Halo CE + PC Maps

Just reading the names of the OG Halo MP maps makes me so, SO very happy. Can't wait to play it on its orig engine again.

I think I remember all of the Chiron portals still.

Damn, I really love H2A's gunfire audio now that I'm listening to it. It seems a little more flat than some of the poppy, squishy and crunchy audio from Halo 4, but that's a good thing - it actually has a little bit of bass to it, whereas Halo 4 had such wonky audio design with certain weapons like the Gravity Hammer that you basically had to have good headphones to enjoy the sound design or else everything just sounded chirpy.

It also seems to have been developed with the intent of being able to pinpoint gunfire on human and Covenant sides, down to the weapon, which is extremely useful given how often a variety of guns and combatants are potentially at play at a given time in Halo 2's tighter playspaces chock full of allies and enemies. The audio IDs seem way more pronounced than some of Halo 4's sounds, particularly the low-grade Covenant weapons and most Promethean ones, and the lower-sounding fire FX seem closer to Bungie's original sounds which, ironically, sound pretty chirpy in Halo 2.

What's not to like?

I rather them have updated all the halo 2 maps.

This collection is amazing value for money.

This is tempting me to buy an Xbox One, but I'm not sure I can justify spending around £400 just to play old games.
If I wasn't planning to upgrade my PC next year, I'd buy one in an instant.

No, it won't. It will be the one that benefits the most from the resolution bump. Halo 3's major flaw was its poor IQ. Having the game run in 1080p and 60fps is going to be glorious with that lighting. The only thing that is going to still look like crap is the human models, mostly those of the marines and Lord Hood. I take from Frank's words that some elements had to be redone for Halo 3/4. I bet it's mostly the lowres backdrops that stick out like a sore thumb. Otherwise I expect those games, particularly 4, to look stellar.

What worries me is that the same poor audio compression might still be in during cutscenes in Halo 4. Please, Frank, say it isn't so...

And Halo 3 also has considerably better animations, which H2A won't really touch.

And better Elite models, unless H2A scraps the crappy Halo 4 ones it's using in the demo.

Wait, is that the Arbiter talking to the young Spartan in the trailer? I just saw that.

To be fair, the Last of Us is a year old, while Halo 1,2, and 3 are much older games

It also does include Halo 4. Which released a few months before The last of us. LOU at 60 bucks is a shameful rip off.

Not since Orange Box has there ever been such overwhelming value in a bundle. I would honestly pay $60 for H3 stand alone and another $60 for H2.

Playing campaign H3 at 60fps and then H2 mp is going to be all I do this fall.

Unbelievable

Well said.

Even though this leaked, the price blew me away. I just imagined that this was somehow going to be $99 or something.

Unbelievable!. Orange box was defnitiely one of my all-time fave collections, but even IT doesnt come close to what is offered here.

MS RAISED the bar. 100 maps? WTF. Jizz material.

I love that H2 is getting the 'anniversary' treatment. What I'd love MS to do is port over the H1 Anniverary from the 360.

H1 was completely slept on. It was in 3D and used Kinect to 'Analyse' objects which you could read about them in your 'library'. The voice options for stuff like weapons, reload, grenade etc. would be cool as well.

MVP announcement of E3 in my humble opinion.

Not only that, but I had low expectations for them to port the Halo 2 multiplayer let alone for all 4 games. I was of the thinking they would do the same thing they did with Halo:CEA. It's pure craziness made even more ludicrous by the pricing. DOPE!

The Last of Us got the remaster treatment Halo 2 gets in this package. Halo 4 not.

Not to say 60 bucks is a bit elevated for TLOU, and 60 is low for this collection. Just putting stuff a bit more in perspective.

Also, is it allready mentioned here Amazon UK has it on preorder for 360 as well?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I9WV6BI/

Probably a mistake?

Yes, it is a continuation of a story. If you want to play all of them in the right chronological order, you have to play them like this:

Halo Wars, Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 ODST, Halo 3 and Halo 4.

The spinoff titles (Halo Wars, Halo Reach and Halo 3 ODST) are not needed to get Master Chief's story, though. They just give you more insight about the whole story behind Halo.
Thanks. I would play the others if they were somehow available on XB1. I just want to catch up on the story before the release of Halo 5 if it goes along with the story as well.

Yup I have to eat crow. I was sure that they wouldn't port all of Halo 2's features over but they did it for all of them. That went beyond anything I pictured happening. 343 did good. I have to give them props.

TLOU doesn't get the same remaster treatment as H2 actually, a remaster implies brand new tech and assets are used. Like H4 and H3, TLOU remaster is just going to run at higher res and framerate and use higher poly models in game, but the assets will remain largely, if not completely, unchanged.

From the TLOU remastered Playstation page

Now featuring full 1080p, higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, in addition to several other gameplay improvements.

No new assets, mostly just rebuilt to run on a different architecture, all the improved shadow and lighting stuff is likely just adjustments to resolution of the shadowmaps and such.

Stinkles, i have a question if your reading and want to make an old man happy :)

How does multiplayer voice chat work in the halo collection? Halo 2 allowed banter between teams in the in the lobby and proximity chat in the game so that you could explain to the opposition how good your moves were in taking them down. (An Englishman will walk but never tea bag should have been the lyrics in Stings song).

Will you be allowing party chat, I for one love the conversations in games and although many prefer party chat i hate it for making team based conversations almost non existant. I'm an advocate for actually disabling party chat in matchmaking but i'm sure that most of GAF think the other way.

Also, with dedicated servers, are you planning on making them regional, or will we be able to choose the region we play in. Cards on the table, i'm British but some of my most memorable games and friends have lived over the other side of the pond, and frankly, I find American gamers more open to actually taking whilst playing thus aiding team play.

I've read articles all over and both these points haven't been asked yet so a reply would be fantastic.

Seriously. The only hope I had going in for this was the fact that there was no readily available Halo MP on the One at the moment. I went in hoping for a real Halo 2 MP experience. Just like everyone else this has blown me away. Halo 1-3 are probably my most played games ever.

Why do so many people in this thread not realise that the first Halo Anniversary is also included?.

I don't get what point you're trying to make, are you really trying to say that 'The Last Of Us' remaster has just as much value as the Halo Collection?

Why do so many people in this thread not realise that the first Halo Anniversary is also included?.
Because the OP needs some serious work. Someone (Stalker) get on this ASAP! Can we just make a new one that will be kept updated with news as it drops? Frank & co. have answered a ton of questions in this thread (and others relating to this collection) and they're just getting lost in the shuffle.

So the music options are the same as the first anniversary, right?

Meaning I can switch between Classic (Marty) or Anniversary Music?

Because I always have Marty's music on instead.

Its not finished but i wouldn't expect it o get much better. It would be a bit silly to have a Halo 1-4 collection where Halo 2 is by far the best looking game. It will imo stay close to Halo 4 level so we have a 1080p/60fps Halo collection where all the games look very similar in quality.

This is a very good thing.
I would find it strange if playing through chronologically only to have H2 look miles better than 3 and 4.

This package really is the ultimate Halo fan service.

I don't. My second sentence says 60 is elevated for TLOU, while low for Master Chief. For that price, it's a great package.

I was only stating TLOU isn't a simple upped res port.

But would be better priced at 30 or 40 nonetheless.

I miss it too, I added a suggestion to the ideas site for a auto toggle to make it easy/automatic for parties friends to drop to game chat if together in the same game.

Anyone else thinking the graphics for H2A are on par with what the 360 could do. It looks great and all but its not exactly next-gen. CEA looked gorgeous so I was expecting more.

Its the same as halo anniversary. Because they are bolting the new graphics on the old engine it is not as efficient as a new game. There will also be weird effects like in halo ce anniversary the movement of the characters looks halting and bizarre in the new graphics. It will look like a 360 game with very good resolution and frame rate...and that is good enough

We're expecting a nice collector's edition to be revealed for this closer to launch right?

I hope so, not a fan of the box art, so I hope there is at least a steelbook edition and throw in a "best of" series soundtrack and I would be happy to pay an extra $10.
