Halo Master Chief Collection: H1-4. H2 full remaster. 1080p60. $59.99 Nov 11 Xbox One

All i have read is "The game of E3 for me", "I don't even care about Halo 5 anymore", "i'm seriously going to buy an X1 for this" style posts all over the net.
If anything i would say the responce to this has been MORE than even Microsoft would of expected.

this guy is clearly an idiot. every halo fan wanted this.

Pretty much this I heard this many times on NEOGAF and couple of friends who love halo 2 multi-player. MS listened to the fans this time no question about it and it was the right thing to do.

If I had a Xbone it be a day 1 purchase to play the single player over again at 1080p and 60FPS. I enjoyed all of them with the first 2 being my favorites in single player.

We're expecting a nice collector's edition to be revealed for this closer to launch right?

You can bet on it. I don't normally go for the collectors editions but I will probably make an exception for this game. I anticipate playing this collection for a very long time so it would be nice to have.

Given that everything of note had leaked before the show this was both my game of show and biggest surprise of show based on how much more content we are getting then I originally thought

Has their been any new screenshots, videos or impressions of the collection other than the video from the conference? Is it going to be playable on the show floor?

I really want some clarification on this whole thing. Namely the following:

  • Halo 3 and Halo 4 are straight ports, just running at a higher res and framerate?
  • Do Halo 3 and Halo 4 both have their original multiplayer running on their original engines?
  • Can the multiplayers all be played separately, or is the unified interface and matchmaking forced?
  • Will the original Halo 2 matchmaking, menus, and ranking be available, i.e. will it exist as its own entity within the bundle?
  • What's the deal with the "six maps" for Halo 2? Are the other maps missing, or just without updated graphics at all?
  • Is Halo 1's original multiplayer back in all its glory with full remastering, or is it just a map pack like Anniversary?
  • Is a dual graphics engine approach being taken like Halo 1 Anniversary, or are new assets being injected into the old map files and togglable tweaks made to the rendering engine?
  • Does "exactly as you remember it" mean Halo 2's button glitches are back?
  • Does the 60 FPS change affect gameplay or timings? In H2 Vista, running at 60 FPS affected the weapon timings and made the Covenant Carbine overpowered.
We seriously need a major briefing on this from the developers.

It's the one thing probably everyone will remember from the show. I mean there wasn't a single gamer friend I have not talking about this collection or how ridiculous it is that we're getting almost every Halo multiplayer (Reach/ODST/Wars obviously not part of it due to no MC), all in 1080p and 60fps with dedicated servers and with the halo 5 beta at the end of the year. On top of that, Halo 2 will be getting the Anniversary treatment with updated visuals, textures, and amazing high fidelity cutscenes.

A 21 day/3 week long beta?? Nice.

Not surprised, I think it was on the IGN live stream Frankie said they wanted to make sure they had plenty of time to gather feedback on the game in every aspect and be able to have enough time to make changes based on said feedback. Where as in past games they have a "beta" period but not a whole lot of time to implement fixes based on feedback. Then you basically end up with a Halo 4 situation.

1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) Multiplayers can all be played separately, they are all available through the unified interface.
4) Original Halo 2 multiplayer is there, 1-50 ranking was hinted at the E3 surprise,
5) Six maps have the anniversary treatment, the rest are still available but do not have the anniversary treatment (I think).
6) Yes.
7) No idea
8) Yes.
9) Probably.

Everything I said could be wrong, but this is how I've interpreted the information we have.

Yes
Yes
Yes and no
Not exactly but Frankie and Dan hinted on IGN that the ranking system of H2 may be in all the MP
Six maps are updated and the original maps are there as well
Original maps in OG engine
Dual graphics engine for H1 and H2
Some glitches are still in there
Possibly

Edit: beaten of course :)

Yes

Yes

Yes, No

No original menus, there's a new ranking system

The 6 new H2A maps are played with a new game mode that is a mix of the halo 2 engine and the halo 4 engine. It's like a updated remix of halo 2 multiplayer that enables forge. All of the original halo 2 maps are available to play on the classic h2 multiplayer tho.

Yes, halo CE multiplayer is back in original form with dedicated servers

Dual graphics engine for halo 2 anniversary is exactly like halo 1 anniversary. Toggle on/off anytime. On the new hardware, the switch is instant.

Yes, glitches are back in halo 2. All of the button glitches that existed at the end of h2's life cycle exist in the halo 2 anniversary multiplayer. Super bounces are still in, but might have changed due to resolution increase.

I have no idea on that last question, haven't seen an answer for it, sorry

I really want some clarification on this whole thing. Namely the following:

  • Halo 3 and Halo 4 are straight ports, just running at a higher res and framerate?
Yes, Halo 4 also gets a bboostin lighting and other things since it's running a more current version of an engine that was made by 343/b]
[*]Do Halo 3 and Halo 4 both have their original multiplayer running on their original engines?
    Yes
[*]Can the multiplayers all be played separately, or is the unified interface and matchmaking forced?
You will be able to filter or pick a playlist with the game you want to play if you want to avoid 4
[*]Will the original Halo 2 matchmaking, menus, and ranking be available, i.e. will it exist as its own entity within the bundle?
No menus but it sounds like a ranking system is making a return
[*]What's the deal with the "six maps" for Halo 2? Are the other maps missing, or just without updated graphics at all?
The six reimagined maps are running a variant of the Halo 2 engine and allow Forge. The others are updated ggraphically
[*]Is Halo 1's original multiplayer back in all its glory with full remastering, or is it just a map pack like Anniversary?
Full on Halo CE engine in the house
[*]Is a dual graphics engine approach being taken like Halo 1 Anniversary, or are new assets being injected into the old map files and togglable tweaks made to the rendering engine?
[*]Does "exactly as you remember it" mean Halo 2's button glitches are back?
    Yes

I answered where I could.

This doesn't make sense on so many levels its almost like he wasn't even thinking when he wrote it. Which I refuse to believe, which means he wrote it knowingly which is...worse.

The crowd wanted Halo 5? We already know Halo 5 is coming but its not in 2014. But Halo Oh shit massive package all this shit in one place will kill me edition is coming out. I keep reading it and turning my head like a dog hearing a strange sound. Do the audiances really want a couple second blurb about a game they already know is coming years out versus a massive package of a companies most popular series of games for a single games price coming out in mere months?

If so than fuck that crowd. Seriously fuck them. Offering tangible shit matters more to me than more CGI or some extra tidbit that could be dolled out via normal updates.
Show us what you HAVE not what you MAY have.

    yes

    yes
  • Can the multiplayers all be played separately, or is the unified interface and matchmaking forced?
There is confusion here, but the assumption is you can play both separate and together
  • Will the original Halo 2 matchmaking, menus, and ranking be available, i.e. will it exist as its own entity within the bundle?
It appears it's all unified. no more old menus, ranking is TBA... may be a rank across all games but not on a per playlist... we have to see
  • What's the deal with the "six maps" for Halo 2? Are the other maps missing, or just without updated graphics at all?
6 Maps are being remade. It has it's own engine which is quasi Halo 2/4/5 or something. All Halo 2 maps are going to be in like how they were in the original game (i hear with the exception of tombstone and desolation)
  • Is Halo 1's original multiplayer back in all its glory with full remastering, or is it just a map pack like Anniversary?
Yes, Halo 1 MP is back! But what you're getting is probably just the old maps... none of the maps that showed up in Halo CEA will be here because they ran on reach engine
  • Is a dual graphics engine approach being taken like Halo 1 Anniversary, or are new assets being injected into the old map files and togglable tweaks made to the rendering engine?
Halo 2 you can swap between old and new engines... now without fadeout!
  • Does "exactly as you remember it" mean Halo 2's button glitches are back?
All exploits are going to be accessible. BXR/BXB/BR dual shot, etc
  • Does the 60 FPS change affect gameplay or timings? In H2 Vista, running at 60 FPS affected the weapon timings and made the Covenant Carbine overpowered.
This we will have to wait and see

Almost all answered already, but I agree that they should summarize all these together.

Everyone ordering for the Halo 5 beta obviously.

Most of these questions have been answered...but i will help (we need a new thread or an ot update)

Halo 3 and Halo 4 are straight ports, just running at a higher res and framerate?
Yes...frankie did say there could be some other work done on them but not the full anniversary treatment as shown in halo anniversary

[*]Do Halo 3 and Halo 4 both have their original multiplayer running on their original engines?
Yes...untouched

[*]Can the multiplayers all be played separately, or is the unified interface and matchmaking forced?
We don't know, but it looks like the main playlists will be mixed

[*]Will the original Halo 2 matchmaking, menus, and ranking be available, i.e. will it exist as its own entity within the bundle?
They said rankings will be the same...menus will be part of the whole though (see last comment) not a lot of detail here

[*]What's the deal with the "six maps" for Halo 2? Are the other maps missing, or just without updated graphics at all?
Those maps will be sort of separate...they will have a rebuilt halo 2 like engine and will be forgable...all the halo 2 maps will also be there in their original condition

[*]Is Halo 1's original multiplayer back in all its glory with full remastering, or is it just a map pack like Anniversary?
original halo 1 multiplayer in all its glory...the issue before with releasing it for online was netcode (it sucks)...but they have solved with dedicated servers. should be like titanfall where you break off a piece of azure for your game on demand

[*]Is a dual graphics engine approach being taken like Halo 1 Anniversary, or are new assets being injected into the old map files and togglable tweaks made to the rendering engine?
Only the single player has the dual graphics thing....multiplayer is unchanged

[*]Does "exactly as you remember it" mean Halo 2's button glitches are back?
yes all glitches are back (except the disconnect one which is fixed because of dedicated servers)

[*]Does the 60 FPS change affect gameplay or timings? In H2 Vista, running at 60 FPS affected the weapon timings and made the Covenant Carbine overpowered.
I have no knowledge of this...maybe

4 of the items you asked about were addressed in the E3 presentation at Microsoft's conference.

Halo 2 MP is going to have all the BXR shit in it? well no thanks.

Having a ranking over all 4 games MP is a bad idea, keep is separate please and use the halo 3 up-to-50 ranking method, it seems the best after halo 2's

Also having 6 halo 2 maps running on a hybrid MP engine and then having halo 2 alone seems like such a weird choice, it's enough to split MP up to the 4 games themselves why does there need to also be a hybrid in there?

Halo 2 ELO ranking was best ranking system

BXR/BXB is easy enough to deal with

the biggest problems in halo 2 was modding and standby and those things were vaulted into oblivion

plus we are hearing that superjumping may not work as well or work at all.

BR double shot can rot in hell though

oh and the 6 halo 2 maps are in addition to their original counterparts

It gets worst...click on it and read the whole article. At one point he tried to suggest that Microsoft is copying Sony's Drive Club with Forza Horizon 2...a franchise that predates driveclub by a gen and 2 years. Its seriously awful and obviously trying to show his prejudices.
