Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

Looked lame for about the first 30-40 seconds, until they started getting into the game mechanics.

Looks really interesting.

Looks like a perfect LAN game, eight players screaming at each other over a room. If it's at least local MP it should be fun.

It's like some strange PC game from 1999 from the UK or France.

This was such a surprise, and I really like it, seems, if nothing else, really fun, but also innovative. This is a must buy.

The first shooter I've seen in ages with a shred of creativity.

Seems to have a ton of new ideas. Hopefully a great new multiplayer Nintendo game to sit alongside Smash and Mario Kart. Really looking forward.

This had the most interesting design of anything in the show. A game that's centered around shooting the stage is really unique.

This game was a welcomed surprise. A shooter based game on a Nintendo platform with lots of great gameplay ideas. Looks like a ton of fun as well. Curious to see how the Wii U holds up with 4 on 4 and all of the paint particles flying around.

Game of the show for me. I'm buying a Wii U Friday.

I can't believe how creative this game looks. From a design perspective, it's just nuts. I need this game ASAP.

This looked super cool, definitely a "Nintendo" approach to the genre. My only concern is the map jumping mechanic. My first impression is that it lessens the importance of proper team strategy/placement if you can hop to any teammate whenever you want.

Also, tons of fans from years back called this when they envisioned Mario Paintball.

This game looks really annoying to play. And you look around using the gyroscope. By far the least exciting preview of the stream.

finally, an original take on shooters. Thank you Nintendo. Hope other developers take notice (bet we'll see some copy cats)

the only shame is that this game will have trouble finding a base although it is a shooter with a very interesting mechanic, which would normally be the nonplusultra....

I think everything Nintendo showed off was a knockout but this was definitely something that stuck out and I'm really anticipating. My only concern is the control because they never explicitly stated dual analog but they did talk about using the gyroscope.

yeah, hopefully gyro controls are optional.

but otherwise this looks fantastic, and is as close to the platonic ideal of "nintendo makes a shooter" as could possibly be accomplished. overflowing with original gameplay mechanics, beautiful artstyle. I wish this was 2014.

I was very impressed by this game. It's just good fun, and in an interesting new way. The traversal mechanic is just genius. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.

And in a lot of ways it reminds me of Jet Set Radio. The turf wars, the bright artstyle and pumped soundtrack. Good stuff, obviously not a replacement, but it will keep me going.

You should check out Sunset Overdrive. It kind of looks like Jet Grind Radio with shooting mutants in place of tagging walls.

But yes, this game looks super fun.

Is there footage of average gamers playing Sunset Overdrive? I mean sure, it looks great when you've got somebody running a level who already knows it top to bottom. What does it look like with somebody who barely knows how to hold a controller? :)

When I saw the squid boosting through the ink, my thoughts were something along the lines of, "Here is Nintendo's multiplayer Vanquish."

One of the devs kept making wii-mote gestures...

Looks great! The concept art shown during the video looks swell too. I don't think the style translated to the game as well, but the game still looks really nice.
