Splatoon (Nintendo 4x4 team shooter, Wii U, 2015)

heh heh.

Also I wonder if this will just have one game mode?

I'm loving a lot of that fan art.
I wonder how people would have responded to Sakura Samurai, Dillon, and Pushmo if they were created as big retail IPs.
:P

Getting kind of a Jet Grind Radio vibe from this. The art style, music, the gangs and the painting the walls mechanic kind of rings of it. A little bit anyways.

Looks super fun to me, I can see myself putting a lot of time into this. Hopefully I can get some of my friends to play this together, looks like having a plan could work well for the game.

This was kind of the surprise of the show for me. In the direct it looked alright but after watching it on Treehouse it really caught my attention. Seems like an easy going, fun game and I love the concept of it. If they can add a good amount of modes into it I think I'd be willing to put down 60 bucks for it

I always wanted a Mario Paintball game, well this is close enough. Great concept.

I was also very pro "Nintendo paintball" but this will do, as long as it has some kind of progression system. If not, I see this being incredibly fun for a good 3-4 hours and then 'meh'. It does look really fun and a nice change of pace from military or space shooters, but if all it is, is what we've seen that won't hold my attention for long enough to purchase.

This was the last game I played today, and it's probably the most fun I had. There's an incredible amount of coordination and skill required to win a game.

If you watch the preview from the direct earlier today, you have the gist of the gameplay, but holy crap there's a lot of strategy involved. The first game we played, my team got stomped bc our team was too focused on the choke point. It's a lot of fun regardless

It's posts like these that make me really excited for this game. It looks like a lot of fun, glad people who've played it think the same.

I can already imagine the crazy fun GAF games we're gonna have. I hope there's offline pvp too, something like one with the TV the other with the gamepad.

I think Nintendo made a mistake showing this early.

By the end of 2014, there's going to be a million clones of it out and no one will remember the word "Splatoon".

I would be shocked if even one company saw this game presented today and then went full steam ahead on creating a copy of it in the next 6 months. Let alone a million.

The treehouse footage made the game look so fun, loving the ideas behind it and the execution. It looks so colorful too, I love it. Hopefully there will be single-player modes of some sort (arenas with bots, at least), and local multiplayer modes as well (with the gamepad as a separate game screen for 5-player mayhem!).

Watching the Splatoon tree house stream, Nintendo has done a great job of streamlining the multiplayer 3rd person shooter experience. The fast movement and touch screen "launching" really help to speed the gameplay up. The idea of having players shoot at more than their enemies is genius.

Now who here even saw this wonderful game coming? The Treehouse matches looked almost sublime. "Almost" because we have to wait to play it.

I wonder about the maps though. Seems like spawn camping could be a problem. Not like I have a problem with that, but not sure if Nintendo would like people doing that in their game.

Love the mechanics in this one. When I saw the trailer I was like "eh, okay" but after watching the Treehouse I was blown away.

- territory control by simply pointing and shooting. Makes sense, simple, visually obvious who is "controlling" an area, etc

- swimming in the ink for fast travel.

- "hiding" in the ink, letting someone walk past you, then jump out and kill them. I imagine you would "die" while hiding in the ink if someone covered over your color. Again, it's simple, makes sense, but really devious

Methinks a traditional deathmatch mode might become repetitive for this game's mechanics. If players can easily jump across maps big and small, or simply follow paint trails to the battlefield, then attacking other players with the limited arsenal we've seen so far could be simplistic and boring. Either more weapons/items need to be made available either within the maps or through loadouts, or maps need to be built in mind to make combat diverse. I might be underrating how good the shooting is in this game, though.

I think it would be good to have a mode where your base is already painted with your color at the beginning of the match.

It looks like something that would get boring after a while, having to paint your base all the times you start up a match, and this change would allow for the team to go all-in in the middle, while allowing the other team to paint your base if they manage to do it.
