My issue with Sakurai is that he seemingly equates less depth and fewer technical mechanics with being more "accessible".

Melee was incredibly deep and technical, yet as a 10 year old kid, I had no idea. I just had fun playing the game. Which brings me to my point - the new players and the casual players don't care how technical or deep the game may be, but the competitive scene does. He can easily satisfy both parties by listening to the competitive crowd.

As a 10 year old kid playing Melee, I had no idea about Wavedashing, L-cancelling, wave bouncing (I still don't understand half of them). I also was never cognizant of the speed of the game. I just had fun playing.

Yet, Sakurai has gone on record saying that Melee was too hardcore, despite the fact that I, as a casual 10 year old (along with my other elementary school friends at the time) still had an immense amount of fun with the game. If he strives to create this level of technical and competitive depth, the hardcore players will love it, and casual and newcomers won't care either way.

That;s all cool, and Im fine with that, would be excited to get in the scene. But I once observed an argument where a guy, with quite a few people backing him up, when the topic of auto-l canceling came up said he wanted it to be harder so only the best of the best that could time that movement could benefit.

I always feel that in most games such as these,most of the battle ought to be in terms of the mind. That's why I enjoy Pokemon so much. Outside of a really crappy team match up, thats what it is

I just want to say that my main beef with the comp. smash community is the elitists who turn their noses up and the smallest things. There are some members of the community that are great and awesome. It's great that after the invitational, you got so many people thanking Nintendo

But wth will happen when Ninty also sees some of the toxic atmosphere already being created by the game. Community is only hurting itself

I sometimes feel like when talking about the comp. smash, the environment quickly changes to that of the same type of feeling many of us complain about with Nintendo threads on GAF- it gets toxic and we get DOOMED talk very very quickly

A lot of people get that feeling, and that's often how I feel about this issue too
And saying elitism doesn't exist in a portion of the comp. smash community would be like me saying it doesn't exist in Pokemon, especially by some on Smogon (not all, but definitely a portion imo)

At least, that has been my experience lurking around the community

Oh, and good news for Sonic fans, to pull away from depressing talk of Smash

I am seriously in love with that fiery sun thing going on in the Wii U character select screen. Those awesome dynamic flames behind all the character portraits are amazing!
 
Well, since few people in smash irc said that there are few/some moves that are shown in Palutena's trailers are more likely coming from Customization moveset opinions. So I'm curious if people would figure out which moves would be more likely to be a part of Palutena's default moveset.

these are my thoughts

after viewing the trailer a multitude of times i have a feeling each of her specials will have specific roles

neutral special for projectiles

side special for ranged/running

down special for defensive moves

and her up b is obviously for recovery

that with saying

i have a feeling her standard neutral special will either be the auto reticle or the heavenly light since these were the moves she used in uprising with solestial fire works and explosive blanks as customizable moves

her side special might be light weight or super speed (they seem like attacks to me) because again she used this move in up rising another move that might be in this space will probably be angelic missile since it reminds me of luigis and pikachus side specials

her down special might very well be reflect since she used it in the trailer with counter being the alt

her standard up special might be the warp move despite her moving across the stage i have this feeling that it can move in all directions like mewtwo with rocket jump and jump glide being the other possibilities

i think these are all her moves she listed in the trailer

but looking at the footage she seems to be the most variable in her play styles and looks to be the most customizable out of the entire cast aside from the miis in that she can play a range a game a mid range game and even play close range

im definitely super hyped for her and excited by all the different possibilities her moveset will bring to smash

tl;dr just a newb making some remarks about palutena
 
Nice to see Pacman got the classic design we all wanted. Honestly, that should have been the team bet. ;)

Odd they show Mr.G&W and yet haven't put him on the page. Guess they'll basically confirm him soon. Actually it i s kind of funny that I said he represents the arcade era a while back and his moves are literally inspired by a lot of early Namco arcade games.

And hey, I got my Xevious reference which I was calling for ages!

Yeah, I think this has a few extra things but it looks pretty solid.

I don't think these guys will be in:
Mewtwo
Falco or Wolf
Ice Climbers, G&W, OR Rob.

But aside from that yeah, I'm totally on board.
 
I'm really, really excited to play as Palutena. I was hoping in the back of my mind that she was in fact playable and hooray, she is! I loved Uprising too much.
 
Pac-man looks absolutely perfect! They really chose the right character design and I love how they even incorporated the original pacman into his moveset. It's so surreal to see Mario,Sonic,Megaman and Pac-man fighting each other. Very happy with how this game is shaping up.
 
actually ive been thinking about it and i would be happy with this new smash if patches and changes are made t the characters from time to time of course im hoping the core of the game is good but if balance issues arise, im hoping patches are a possible thing

Takes out Ice Climbers, Rob and G&W but keeps Jigglypuff. SMH.
 
By the way, did anyone notice Viridi has a line in Palutena's trailer?

That got me all Giddy listening to her....I can totally see Palutena and Pit talking to the other Gods as a cameo with a taunting toggle. Similar to Snake Phone Calls in Shadow Moses Island or Star Fox Gang on their stages.

I just think, ever since seeing Palutena's trailer, that we WILL get KI:U commentary somewhere in the game
Especially with Dark Pit. He'll be an alt with different lines in conversations.
And if Snake isnt in the KI:U cast can replace the MGS cast for the Codec type conversations,

Maybe both will be in, or both at once
