Germany stands the best chance to advance either way, so I'm pulling for them to smack down Portugal. Nobody likes fake Ronaldo.

The US has to beat Ghana, no question. That's our best chance to pick up three points.

Nah, thankfully he realised his mistake quickly enough so I don't think he will fuck that up again.

Ya, but even then, something seemed off. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there wasn't much mesh out there.

Also, I thought Higuain was resting his ankle, but then Sabella magically played him at the half? Was he just in the dog pound or what?

I think it has more to do with the 5-3-2 formation they started off in than anything else. Higuain is a striker and they already had Messi and Aguero on the field. Maxi Rodriguez (!!!) made his way into the lineup instead since he's a traditional midfielder.

For the record, I think the 5-3-2 experiment was a colossal failure. Argentina doesn't need to worry about shoring up the defense in this group stage. The best defense for them will be to attack constantly and control the ball in the middle of the field. Pressure up front will do more to relieve the back than having eight dudes standing behind the ball.

Really.
;)

Historically, Mexico has defeated Brazil in very important matches so I think Mexico can beat them. With that said, Brazil is playing at home and they will be pretty hard to beat. I'm hoping Mexico can beat Brazil or at least tie so we can go beat Croatia and pass to the next round.

Ronaldo can't be that hated. He's the athlete with the most followers on Facebook and Twitter. It's a shame that his PR team runs it.

Germany is long overdue for an embarrassing early exit. especially doing dumb shit like playing Lahm in midfield. only worry is if Ronaldo isn't fully fit, that's obviously a huge blow for Portugal

also I hope they drop Ozil and lose so we can stop hearing all this whining about Ozil

It sucks that USA's very first game is a must-win.
It's practically an elimination game.

Pretty much. There is zero margin for error in this group. The best case scenario is a win against Ghana, tie or win (lol) against Portugal, a loss to Germany, and some love from the goal differential gods.

Maybe Landon Donovan can sneak down from the ESPN booth and get on the pitch. Dude shows up in WC matches.

I'm wondering where this was coming from. Bosnia has a great attack and maybe Sabella took the criticism of our defense to heart and figured 5 backs might be the answer. Obviously, it's not.

Makes me wonder if our attack is enough to cause issues with more precise possession teams, like Germany.

I'm chalking the goal against us as mental lapse, and not some chink in the armor in terms of our defense.

But, even with 5 backs, Romero was definitely tested and that has me worried.

It's arguable that Mexico has ever beaten anyone in very important matches considering they've never made it past the quarter final at the WC.

It's a well known fact your defense is weak. What happened were not lapses but rather expected outcomes.

Fully supporting the US against Ghana, I feel this is CONCACAF's time to shine!!! Shame about Honduras though. CONCAGAF, believe!

are people still debating France's 2nd goal? Who gives a fuck, France was set to win the game regardless

and I am this forum's biggest France hater and I say fuck it, let the goal count. It is not like if Honduras was attempting a come back

The defense is our weak link, but adding five backs just emphasizes that even more. When you're deficient in a certain position, stacking half your starting roster with that position isn't going to do much. The middle looked sparse and was largely dominated by Bosnia in the first half. The front line was so empty that Bosnia frequently could double or triple cover Messi and Aguero when they got the ball.

At the risk of sounding like John Madden with this, Argentina's hope to progress in this World Cup is to score a lot of goals. They aren't going to be able to fully contain any extremely talented offensive team. They're going to concede goals. They won today with a lucky Bosnian own goal, and gave up a rather silly (under Romero's legs) goal that would have been the equalizer otherwise.

The team needs to play aggressively, dominate the middle of the pitch, and frequently send 5-6 guys forward on the attack. If they can't score consistently, they won't have the defensive mindset to bail themselves out.

We would have but the referees just don't like us. ):

For example in wc 1986 the referee (colombian too) disallowed our goal against Germany that would have given us the victory and the pass to semifinals.

And how to forget wc 2010.

Yes, we could defeat Brazil, but I don't think we can defeat the referee.

The good news is that it doesn't matter what happens we will have a good game.

Home field advantage is a very real phenom, even when the Refs aren't native either.

I will be very surprised if Brazil doesn't make it at least to the semi-finals.

Google search trends before the England - Italy match :lol

What a damn dick move right there...

That's what everyone says, but it looks to me he just didn't see the kid. Note that when he looks at them, the kid isn't there. He then runs from the other file, just a Leo was passing through the referee and since he was so small he probably just didn't see him.

I find it hard to believe he'd go out of his way to be a dick.

They need to have some intensity, I don't remember seeing any of their attacking players chase back when they lost the ball. They were walking back most of the time. I have never seen a team that looked more apathetic. They only really came alive for five minutes after Messi scored that goal. There is no questioning the talent on the team but there was a complete lack of drive from Argentina in that match, they all looked like they just wanted it to be over. Hopefully they come out stronger in the next match.

That matches what I saw as well. It looked like they bought into their own hype as the heavy favorites and just expected Bosnia to roll over and lose. Bosnia played a very solid game (minus the own goal) and I commend them for it. I have them making it out of the group in my bracket and think they have a very strong chance to do so.

I don't get the hate for Ronaldo, the guy stopped being a dick like... 3-4 years ago. He's a grown man now, and a fantastic player.

GO PORTUGAL! #believe

He has the childlike enthusiasm and philanthropic heart if Michael Jackson combined with the dashing good looks and competitive fire of Tom Brady. Unstoppable combination.

Missed Argentina last night, but i heard it was pretty boring?
Germany Portugal should be a good one today, problem is, who the hell do i "root" for?

Hahahahahahaha. As if Twitter ever was any indication of popularity when half of my followers are eggs and 90% of Ronaldo's followers are 12 year old girls just like Justin Bieber.

Let the game decide, it's quite easy to find out where your allegiances lie once the game start. As a German I find it hard to root for the Netherlands but vs Spain and thanks to Arjen it was the most natural thing in the world.

I feel the same way. It is indeed hard to root for Germany, but I will when they play against Portugal. I did two years ago.

Yeah, I think the game against Spain was the only time where pretty much every German was rooting for the Netherlands.

Quite looking forward to the game against Portugal, plus every lecture past 4pm is cancelled because of the game, which is a nice bonus.

I know it doesn't really matter. But is it more advantageous to root against Portugal tomorrow if USA has a chance at all to advance? (With Germany) ..I guess well see how things play out.

I don't wanna worry anyone but Blablurn rooted for Bayern and they lost. Rooted for the Clippers and they lost. Rooted for the Heat and they lost.

It's not a good sign and I like Germany so I don't know how to feel.

Bayern won the Double this year. The triple last year. And many titles before. Pls. #MiaSanMia #ProudLion

Edit: I like your username though
