Just started watching this show. (finished 4th episode). Absolutely hooked. And Bloodborne came out on the perfect time for me, cause I love this time period and aesthetic. One thing I will say, is that half of the actors are pretty shitty on the show, but I guess the campiness works well.

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 6 "What Death Can Join Together"

Vanessa's latest vision leads Sir Malcolm, Ethan and Sembene on a search. Professor Van Helsing reveals more details to Dr. Frankenstein about who has taken Mina. A night with Dorian unlocks something dark within Vanessa.

Yeah, he's barely in it. He has a couple more scenes after that one but is just used as a punchline for a few jokes. The kids that surround him in that clip are the main characters.
.

Seen it multiple times already. the best monster movie in many years.

Just wanted to point out how goofy Frankenstein was lol

What's wrong with her accent? It's a Northern Irish one not Rep of Ireland and it's pretty much spot on.

I've said this in the thread before. Her accent is extremely passable for a working class Belfast accent. People outside of Northern Ireland just aren't used to hearing it.

A bit disappointed they didn't show any aftermath of the Chandler/Dorian hookup, and the way they offed Van Helsing was pretty lame. (I don't really like the way they are writing Caliban.)

Everything else was pretty awesome.

Man, fuck Caliban. Such a whiny baby. Killing Van Helsing? Uncool.

Pretty funny that Ethan didn't mention anything about hooking up with Grey. It's something that he and Vanessa can bond over. And oh hey, Vanessa's possessed again. I burst out laughing at that last scene where she starts floating and spinning cause I can just imagine Malcolm's reaction being like "OH COME THE FUCK ON, I AM NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE THIS BULLSHIT AFTER THE NIGHT I JUST HAD."

The black guy finally did... something? I guess?

Great episode. Caliban had the line of the night for me "Do not shed tears. I have mastered that skill. It brings no solace." damn.

Also, I'm a man who likes to get roughed up a bit in the bed-room, but I don't think I can fuck with Eva. That's a bit much even for me. If I had boss healing powers maybe. Maybe.

Who is writing and directing these? Any notable past efforts? Shit is awesome.
John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Hugo and Skyfall screenwriter) wrote the whole series.

J. A. Bayona (Director of The Impossible and The Orphanage) directed the first two episodes and the rest of the episodes are done by respected British directors.

Sam Mendes is executive producer.

Looking at the activity os this thread and my Facebook feed looks like this show has a very low viewership even tough it should be up there with the best

For better or worse, most of these episodes end with relatively little to discuss. There is a lot of stuff we can obviously see coming but is delayed.

Brona's still dying and inevitably heading to be Caliban's bride...

Caliban killed off Van Helsing, which seems kinda lame. That's less shocking, more disappointing.

It's weird how the vampyr is very primal and animalistic, and yet seems to be using Mina as a hostage or human shield. Is he intelligent?

I'd like to learn a little more about Sembene sooner rather than later.

If vampire guy on ship is Dracula........is anyone else kinda disappointed?

He seems kinda weaksauce. Maybe he is weakened but will recover.

Would be cool to see him as a charming and clever antagonist to our heroes rather than an just another ugly dumb beast monster.

The Dracula on the ship is just a servant.

The Real Dracula is Dorian Grey.

I would let Eva cut me all day long.

Pretty god show, not great yet, but It has potential. Love Eva and Dalton.

Dalton and Green have this great weird father/daughter chemistry coming on. Sometimes cold and bitter and hateful, other times there's genuine love and adoration in their eyes, both on fine display this episode.

I believe in the book he is still gathering his power while on the ship. He killed a bunch of people while it was sailing over and needs to go back to rest in the soil that has been brought over from his castle. After a while he may transform into a human form.

Tough run with being Sunday and everyone is watching Game of Thrones. Hopefully they can push it more and are banking on those viewers to come over now that GoT just ended their season. It would be a shame for this to not get picked up from another season. I have been waiting so long for a show like this.

You don't have to worry much on that front, Showtime has already ordered a second season of 10 episodes.

So Van Helsing has killed vampires (no way) and a ship full of vampires and the "for the dead travels fast" quote, how can they not be building up to Dracula?

Edit: Wait, he was on the ship?

It's not 100% confirmed, but he was in Vanessa's room so we know he's in London. The vampire on the ship was also carrying Mina soooo maybe 90% sure it was him.

Knew very little going into it, just watched the first two episodes. Definitely has potential for greatness so far. Great atmosphere and cast. High quality production. I really enjoy the shooting style. Some of the moments were wonderfully done. At the same time however i feel it tries to be a little too ambitious with some of the character acting and can be borderline silly, but barely. Also not crazy about how both episodes open with a girl screaming at the camera like a b-movie, when the show seems so clear on trying to be different.

I hope they design the human form for Dracula to be a bit more... classic?

But then again, maybe they are going for the Count Orlock version of Dracula which would explain the monster design

Actually... come to think of it... I would love if they went full on Orlock!

Two disappointing things in last episode were how weak were the female vampires. Shouldn't they be like super strong. Secondly how easily. Van helsing was killed off. He was supposed to be vampire killer and the reaction of Frankistine. He just met him twice before.

Also the sex scene was super disappointing

Both great movies. I love them both. I remember seeing the Herzog Nosferatu and thinking that it was a cheesy ass bad German soap opera when it first starts. But man, the film just gets darker and darker throughout. So good.

Agree on both of these, i liked the episode but the fight scene with the female vampires was badly directed/edited, and that they all had the exact same long white wig and black dress bothered me.

I wish "Dracula" had more presence in the movie. Only thing I can figure out is that he wants the demon inside Eva Green for reasons. I also want to see Dorian's portrait already! Although maybe leaving it to the imagination would be better... I really have no clue what could it be showing.

I like Murnaus original more than Herzogs, but it's still quite good. The ending in Herzogs version though is genius
(Renfield riding off in the sunset as a full on vampire)

Probably just a big disgusting hunk of rotted meat.

I think its possible the brides all look the same because they are suppose to look the same..its why Mina was chosen.
They all have the look of Dracula's original true love. Of course once turned they become just another vampire servant to their Master and lose the spirit that made them desirable, gotta hate being one of the damned.

I wonder if Dracula is grander then the creatures we've seen..as suggested perhaps he's gathering power and will seem more human at some point.
The Egyptian connection, the river Nile, that fact Malcom was planning an expedition there before realizing Mina was in London.
I think Dracula flee's to Egypt not Transylvania and that sets the stage for season Two.

when helsing got pounced i immediately knew it was caliban, man he was such an awesome character too, wish we could've seen him killing some vamps at his age

and what the hell is somnolent obeisance? i googled it, somnolent is sleepy and obeisance is respect
sleepy respect? wat

i had to google chicanery as well lol
at least this show's improving my english :P

I've just seen the preview for the next episode. I'm legit scared by
how well Eva Green plays crazy.
Homegirl is chomping away her path to the Emmys. Wow.
