While it is huge news that the US drew such a large rating for the game last night, I don't think it's going to be enough to get people to watch MLS or wake up early to watch the EPL on a weekly basis in August.

MSL is kind of in a weird spot. I would argue the quality is improving every year and the attendance numbers keep getting better- but still no traction on TV.

ESPN has cut away from every game ASAP once it ends, they dont to post game show...

And yet, Univision has no issue providing very long pre and post games on network TV.

Its no surprise that Univision, on free TV, draws more viewers for every game.

The post-game show last night was hilarious. They were just starting to interview Donovan and then they say that they're now going to the Mets game. Lol

it happens every world cup... ratings have been consistently going up every single world cup what's the big deal about this? I don't get it either. It's the same story every year... and ti happens in every country too.... people who don't normally watch soccer in Spain(yes there are people who don't like soccer in spain, shocker I know!) they do actually tune into the world cup but that doesn't mean they're going to follow the season.....

Same thing with the Superbowl in America....

Going from a 2.0 for the last world cup to a 7.0 is a huge gain.

Time zone helps, yes, but thats not all.

MLS traditionally sees a stadium attendance bump after the world cup, but nothing extra on TV.

Theyve gone from averaging like 12,000 to 19,000 attendance but TV ratings havent moved at all in the past 5 years.

It's a big deal because we still have a long way to go in developing the game here. 2 cups ago the US didn't even have live commentators that were at the games.

I really like football, but generally only watch national teams and the (quarter/semi) finals of the Champion's League as well. There's a special ambiance that I miss in national leagues. The quality is also a lot higher of course. Ain't nobody got time for FC nobody versus SC waterboys.

rooting for our neighbours, hope good players can create a good team, because a lot of them our playing out of their favourite position.

go DUIVELS

If I were a betting man I'd go for a terribly boring match ending 1-0. Luckily I'm not a betting man, so I'm going with 3-0 for Belgium

They had an hour long pre show and a two hour block of world cup programming scheduled before the game Sunday. No I don't expect them to have any long preshow for other games because no one here cares about those.

Univision gets higher ratings because it's in Spanish. Not hard to figure out.

There's a reason NBA, NCAAF, NHL, and NCAAB are moving their post seasons from network to cable, including championship games that are some of the most watched games of all sports in the US. It's 2014. The difference between network and ESPN here is negligible.
