I watched the video and the terrain looks rather barren tbh. Lots of sandy hills with a few tress here and there, some rocks alongside the occasional building.

Is the whole game set here?

What is that megablocks???
My kid is going to exclusively play with those...

And when he goes: daddy I wanna play with the Lego castle now..
I'd be like: SON that isn't your outer heaven!!?? THIS IS ** throw box of megablocks Shadow Moses at him **

Hahaha!! *levels up LEGO R&D unit to design more durable LEGO cardboard boxes*

I just watched this trailer for Metal Gear Rising.

Bought. Bought so hard. I don't even care if I couldn't stand the demo, that looks baller as fuck.

Fuck it, I'm gonna go replay MGS4. Look for the RTTP thread soon.

Just dont forget to purchase that Evade move from Revengeance in-game store. It is crucial for surviving fights, and learn how to parry. You will need it.

IMO, Revengeance is one of the finest games I played in last few years. Amazing experience, insane boss battles, great action from start to end. End boss is.... wow.

Dude, nice! Metal Gear Rising is incredible. I never thought I would get into it, at first, but my God. So glad I got a copy. Loved it. :-)

How many locations did they say it'll have?

Metal Gear Solid V info: gameplay mechanics, storytelling, side missions and more

They haven't said, but did state that there will be a variety of locations - all over the world.

After getting in a helicopter, players can select missions via a menu. Ground Zeroes will just feature one location, Camp Omega. The Phantom Pain however, will include a variety of locations all over the world, such as Afghanistan and various African countries. There won’t be any metropolitan areas though, instead expect locations such as deserts and jungles with remote enemy bases.

welcome to Afghanistan. and no.

ya, i get that now. the boring terrain is what made me never finish FO:New Vegas. I'm not interested in spending hours of my life looking at desert. Out of all settings for a game/movie/book I think it's the worst and most boring. It's pretty numbing for my eyes.

Hope the other areas look better. Although motherbase just looks like big shell... that game alone made me hate the color orange for the rest of my life.

People gonna crucify me for this but i find MGSV's visuals to be the best I've seen for an open world game on consoles, yes better than Infamous *runs*

The lighting looks really awesome. But comparing those titles is hard because they aim for a different art style.. MGS V looks more realistic.

It's safe to say this gameplay demo skyrocketed TPP to #1 on my hype list.

It kind of dwindled down because I usually try not to get hyped for games that don't even have a release date yet, but jesus the gameplay is so cool.

The fact that Ocelot is a radio contact just blows my mind haha.

Yeah I'm so happy ocelot is a main support character now.

He's so in my top 3 of favorite characters!

pretty... good?

Yeah, dude, for sure!

I've never been too, too fond of Ocelot. I've always appreciated his existence, you know? But I only really loved his character in Metal Gear Solid 3. I guess that's in large part due to how well this series does at giving the player so many perspectives! In the Big Boss era, I see him as a loyal badass trying to do the right thing; Naked Snake's bro. In the Solid Snake era, I think of him as the guy who wanted to be Revolver Bobcat, but was rejected when presenting the idea to Liquid Snake and got stuck in an endless cycle of running into ninja cyborgs.

In the solid snake era I see him more as the guy who's holding all the cards.
He's like nega-snake, you know how snake is always being used and has no idea what so ever what's going on. Well Ocelot is ALWAYS knows what's going on, he's in on every plan, got his own plans going on. Ultra spy!!!!

Haha! Yeah!! That's a very good point. He's always had the option of playing both sides, Solid and Liquid, like a damn fiddle. He's had the upper-hand - not just in CQC - but in the grand scheme of the series, as well! I think it's really awesome that we get to look at him as an ally in The Phantom Pain. Kojima has described his character as one who is not driven by emotions, such as revenge, but as one who is "neutral," which I think is really cool!

The thing about Ocelot is that beneath it all, he's driven by his loyalty to Big Boss, and it's an element of his character that's ridiculously difficult to portray in the Solid era, because from Solid Snake's perspective, he has no clue whatsoever about the underlying hidden story of the Patriots and Zero vs Big Boss.

In many ways, he's his mother's child to the core. Boss's life was a lot more clear, but just as everything she did, she did for her country, everything Ocelot did, he did it for Big Boss.

Ocelot was a likeable punk in MGS3, and also a secret bro. In MGS1 he is most certainly not a bro, tortures you, and takes all your stuff. Then he betrays Liquid, who we could at least empathize with a little bit. He has the badass western thing going, but he's probably the first person you'd point fingers at for making your life hell and screwing everyone over. Double that for MGS2.

MGS3 paints him in a much different light, so I can see why you'd be a fan of that incarnation of his character. I can't wait to see the missing link between young and old Ocelot.

Ocelot's always been my favourite character in the series (hence the avatar :P), and I'm so happy to see him in the spotlight again. I think Troy Baker's doing a fantastic job of bridging MGS3 and MGS1 Ocelots, and the character design is pretty much perfect, too. I just need to see him doing some crazy revolver tricks to lose myself in a fit of bliss.

I'm really hoping they bring back the traditional Codec, though, because I want to talk to that guy and the Ground Zeroes radio implementation was pretty useless. I don't want a return to the MGS2 days of delivering half the story through the static Codec screen, I just want the hundreds and hundreds of optional Codec calls to come back. In the old MGS days I used to love calling all my contacts in every area to talk to them about all the weapons I was finding, what kind of mushroom that is over there, the history of the jeep as it pertains to warfare, etc etc. Peace Walker replaced that with tapes, which I didn't find to be an adequate replacement, and Ground Zeroes got rid of it altogether. In GZ you point your binoculars at a truck, press the Info button, and then Kaz says, "Boss, that's a truck". Thanks, Kaz.

It seems like the "L1: Info" button prompt is no longer there in the TPP footage, though, so hopefully they've ditched that idea. I'm guessing L1 is now used to bring up that action menu thing (the one where you choose between calling your horse, 'knocking', etc). I'm hoping that means there's a full, classic Codec or Radio menu buried in the iDroid somewhere, but I suppose it could also mean that they've ditched the idea of manually calling for support altogether and you'll only hear from Ocelot at scripted moments (oh please no).

Ocelot wanted to fulfill the will of Big Boss, but he has done that in very complicated way. He probably felt he had no choice. He infiltrated and betrayed everyone, he paid zero respect to Solid Snake [who killed his friend BB], created the insane Liquid-mimicking plan that could fool powerful AI, and was willing to launch massive war offensive against patriots and destabilize entire world in MGS4 just so that he would finally end the Patriots.

He had a good end goal, but downfall of Big Boss in MGSV is nothing compared to how desperate Ocelot will get.

Ocelot is the best MGS character by far, the guy is incredible. Double-crossing, tripple-crossing, quadruple-backstabbing. You never know where his true allegiance lies [until the end of MGS4, at least]. Always enigmatic, always two steps ahead.

Also god-tier voice acting by Patrick Zimmermann.

Btw, does anyone have any idea why can't I download this new gameplay video from YouTube in full 1080p glory with audio? I've tried couple of Firefox extensions, but either they just let me download it in 720p, or in 1080p without the audio for some reason.

Yeah, it's been like this for a while, Youtube separates the video and audio stream for 1080p videos. I haven't been able to download them either although I just searched and found this Firefox extension. Looks like it's a bit more complicated than just clicking a download button, I think it uses ffmpeg for muxing the two streams together in one file, haven't tried it myself yet.

Hey, I take offense to that notion.

That sucks. I'll have to try one of those other extensions then (one of these days). Thanks for the link.

No, that is one of the 3 locations we know so far.

Afghanistan
Africa
New Mother Base

Don't forget the hospital on Cyprus, although that's more of a linear level. For the main campaign, expect deserts, jungles, favelas and military bases for the most part. We can assume that the new mother base is somewhere in the indian ocean, between Pakistan and Somalia---so anywhere within helicopter distance of that is fair game. The farthest any helicopter can fly on one tank of gas is four thousand miles, so since Mother Base inexplicably has the best technology in the world lets say that anywhere within 4000 miles of the equidistant point between Pakistan and Somalia is a possible mission area.

Just tried the Complete YouTube Saver extension, works well and it's pretty simple. I downloaded the latest version (it's all in the extension description), downloaded and installed ffmpeg from the link provided, right-clicked on the CYS icon, options, set the folder where I installed ffmpeg and that's it. You can choose from a large number of formats, downloaded a 1080p trailer and it works.

That did it, thanks!

Imagine at the end of tpp,
Young snake infiltrates mother Base and takes down big boss...

Also is it too much to ask for a spin off featuring Liquid Snake?

Even if this doesn't happen, it would be nice to have a joke Extra Op mission where you play as a young FOXHOUND Solid Snake who is tasked to infiltrate your own Mother Base, destroy it and assassinate Ocelot, Miller and Big Boss. It would be a large mission with a couple of boss fights against Ocelot and Big Boss. The Diamond Dogs soldiers would be tough, depending on how good their stats are.

The fact that Ocelot is a radio contact just blows my mind haha.

Yeah, that's awesome haha. I hope he's interesting during his radio dialogue, though and not reduced to a generic radio contact. Like, I hope we hear some interesting radio dialogue from him.

A video like that easily quiets people who just want things like they used to be, but it doesn't change the facts, really. That is, it would be more interesting to have the dialogue equally split between snake and ocelot in a scene like that. Kojima just doesn't seem capable of working it out like that...or he refuses to. There's plenty of room for the facial animations to say things the character shouldn't have to, while developing snake as a character through dialogue that isn't just exposition dump or questions on a subject. We'll see when it's finally out, but I'm not holding my breath that he's learned his lesson on that front. I expect him to give BB the same heavy handed, preachy dialogue he always does when he finally gives the main character a chance to talk at length.
