You know, I just realized something... in the hospital Ishmael does it instead of Snake for a little bit.

Snake:"W-what happened to the woman?"
Ishmael: "The woman? I..."
Snake: "Who are you?"
Ishmael: "Who am I? I..."

I think we'll get a lot of Kiefer talking in the intro sequence, so by the time we get to Afghanistan we might be a bit tired of him anyway lol.

Randomly came across this haha...

Kiefer used to do Calorie Mate commercials in Japan, I had no idea.

Here's one of the TV ads.

Kind of funny...

Probably been brought up before, I've only just come across it haha.

Calorie Mate Codec in MGS3.

I'm actually playing MGS3 for the first time. I knew the story, but the gameplay... HNNG. So good. Can't believe this is from two gens ago. Although I gotta admit, there's some cheesiness in the dialogue. Kojima has surely grown up in his writing.
I'd say that MGS3 is the best in terms to simple writing principles. The satire is intentional and it seems less hackneyed and overdramatic overall. Especially compared to the melodrama that was MGS4.

Anyone else sad that there's no food system in Phantom pain? My favorite thing to do in snake eater was leaving throwing spoiled food or poisonous snake at guards.

Trailer made me replay MGS3.

Played it from beginning to end.

Manly tears right now. So good. Best ending of all time.

Actually, when last asked about it, Kojima said he couldn't speak on it; so there's a chance that it will make a return, in some form or another!

Ending in MGS3 gets me everytime. That was just the right amount of tragic for The Boss IMO, all that extra stuff they introduced in Peace Walker just seemed like overkill.

No one is asking for him to repeat the last word of every sentence, but I just find it odd that while Ocelot is detailing him on miller, his cohort and somewhat friend, he doesn't say anything.

Not even a bode of confidence?

just weird IMO.

@SRJB gets it.

this is actually a very common trope. the strong silent type. ever watch mad men? i think donald draper responds to like 30% of the questions he's asked

I am almost 100% certain that there is an SOP-like system in the game, which prevents DD soldiers from shooting Big Boss/Kaz.

Has there been any word on if GZ will come with TPP? I'll wait to play it if so. Seems odd to exclude it if it will be essential to the story.

yeah I doubt it. The story in GZ can be shown as a cut scene in TPP. But maybe Konami will sell a Special Edition where both games are included. It seems Konami's cash cow is anything Metal Gear right now.

Actually I think it would be kind of cool if TPP detected whether you had played GZ and then either showed or didn't show you a GZ cutscene recap based on that.

MGS might be the only game where I liked seeing this product placement crossovers. Maybe it's because I don't know the Japanese brands and it comes off as the same sort of juxtaposed humor that I'd expect of Kojima.

Maybe you'll get an option at the start of TPP to replay the beginning cutscene of GZ + some sort of replacement cutscene for the gameplay and then the ending cutscene.

I know I would rewatch that before TPP... :p

Big Boss's silence is actually less jarring to me than Ocelot having to explain concepts like "don't run into an enemy base without planning or you might get killed," "use binoculars to see things far away," and "This is an open world video game so you can go different places whenever you want, uh, I mean, how and where you make it is up to you."

Maybe they assumed that Big Boss suffered brain damage when he got that horn in his head.

I saw a undramatic theory on Reddit I hadn't considered before, Ocelot takes BB to meet Miller on Mother Base, which is where 'Diamond Dogs; our new home' comes in. Then you spend some recuperation time on MB before Miller goes missing.

Yea, I get using a tutorial for the first mission, but it's kinda ridiculous having to remind the legend himself to use binoculars".

Should simply have the hospital sequence be the tutorial, and everything after that just assume the player is capable of thinking.

He may have amnesia, actually:

* And here's the Big Bomb of the interview, perhaps a mistranslation (I kinda hope). When the interviewer asks how Kojima intends to make the game accessible to newcomers of the series, he responds that, since Big Boss wakes up from a 9 Year coma, he "will have no memories" and will need to understand what has happened to him.

I sincerely hope he's not going to play the "amnesia" card on that one, as having Big Boss voiced by someone else and with no recollection of who he was would be terrible imho. Hopefully it's a mistranslation and Kojima meant something more akin to "He will need to catch up on what happened during the coma, but considering the shrapnel in his head, partial amnesia is a possibility.

He may have amnesia, actually:

EDIT: Wait shit misread that

Also, I really don't think Kojima would seriously play the amnesia card like that. Even if he did, though, it would have a solid explanation with that horn in his head.
Actually, doesn't that thing lodged in his head cause him to go insane? That would make sense, as it is close to his brain and might have caused some sort of mental defect.

He may have amnesia, actually:

Yeah! I think his memory loss will be fairly prominent early on in the game, but as you gather more and more Intel, Big Boss starts remembering who he was and realizing why he needs to be the leader of this massive army. (I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yes, I think there will be some form of memory loss, but I don't think it will be intrusive enough to piss returning fans off. You know?) It's interesting to think about, honestly. This game could start in so many ways. The scenes that take place on the chopper "missing" from Ground Zeroes, waking up in a hospital, or maybe something entirely different - who knows where this game will even begin? Not to mention that Snake gets himself a prosthetic arm sometime after the hospital escape (though I think that particular bit may only account for about a day). There are so many possibilities, and I trust that we'll be in for an unbelievable ride.

I don't think so. The tone of the conversation where he rescues Miller made it sound to me like that was the first time they had spoken to each other since the coma. I also think that "You see this? Diamond Dogs" is literally this scene where he's showing him the emblem after the rescue.

Ocelot also says "You need to join up with Miller, build that private army of yours one more time. First we need to save Miller, he's Afghanistan." At some point before they go to Afghanistan. I think Kojima or someone also mentioned the scene we see of them in Afghanistan is shortly after the coma. I don't know how he's supposed to have regained that mass in such a short amount of time, but that's probably how it is.

That mission was used as a demonstration for E3 so we might not even be free to go back to motherbase or use the fulton system until after we've rescued Miller in the real game, which would explain why we'd get a big scene of Miller introducing Diamond Dogs to us for the first time.

Please, no. Eating was so stupid and "gamey" in MGS3.

"Oh, I'm so hungry. Maybe I should have eaten two crocodiles instead of one..."

It's really hard to say why he couldn't reveal more? Who knows if you actually eat to stay alive? Maybe we get more info on that front soon!

Jocchan's statement was misleading; Big Boss was already a complete moron in MGS3.

A complete moron?!

Not this 'gamey' shit again. The eating wasn't 'gamey' enough, it was too 'menuey'.

The tone of the conversation where he rescues Miller made it sound to me like that was the first time they had spoken to each other since the coma.
I just said that. Only the version I'm saying doesn't involve Snake already fully decked out in Diamond Dogs gear.

Ocelot also says "You need to join up with Miller, build that private army of yours one more time. First we need to save Miller, he's Afghanistan."

The theory would be that those two lines were dubbed from different parts of the game, which doesn't sound too ridiculous now it's confirmed that scene in the trailer was all dubbed over.

Correct me if i'm wrong here, but in MGS 1 you had the colonel explaining to you via Codec how to descend a ladder.

Jocchan's statement was misleading; Big Boss was already a complete moron in MGS3.

So now we know that the Bravo Shot test did have secundary effects after all (infertility notwithstanding).

EDIT: Lets go out on a limb and consider that Kojima likes to break the Fourth Wall, in that case it means that he thinks we all have brain damage. Bam.

I thought John was just hella naive in MGS3.

*Placebo Effect*

Wasn't that the point? To start out as a green, naive soldier who gets his heart ripped out by the end of the mission and gets put on a path to become a villain? Naked Snake is not supposed to be the hardened badass that Solid Snake is in MGS1. I always thought it was Kojima's intention for him to be a bit goofy in order to create a more drastic character arc for Big Boss.

Fox engine = best engine. This game is looking amazing.

I read the absolutely bats hit insane OP MGS4 had. What are the odds this will get similar treatment? SO hype.
