Made it to a 41 or something on my main account on H3. I think I was better than that but I would always play TS with the same 3 scrubs (friends) hence I could never rank up. Oh well, good times regardless.

I am so unreasonably excited for this collection. Can't wait!

It'll be great to put together separate playlists of just the Master Chief levels of Halo 2, and of just the Arbiter levels, to see their respective stories through in sequence. I used to do that with Chapter Select, but this'll feel so much cleaner.

What's harder about it?

I'm surprised so many people in this thread still don't know about clawing in 2014, I thought it was a pretty well known way to play even back in like 06. It's not impractical at all, I've been clawing for about a decade, and know plenty of others who do too. Aiming seems much harder at first because your thumb is at a slightly different angle using your middle finger to shoot, but that really only takes 3-4 weeks to get completely used to.

I was trying it right before I typed that and I was having way more difficulty that with the 360 controller. Maybe I just need to practice with it more. idk.

Just joking and dreaming a bit :)

I dont know if this has been confirmed or not, because I cant seem to find the answer anywhere..

But the most important question for me is this.

Can we choose the datacenter where we matchmake (like titanfall)? or is the game going to decide for us??

Please confirm this stinkles

No comments on this topic yet afaik. However, somehow I am sure they will choose it automatically.

please no!! After playing 99% of all my halo matchmaking hosted on the other side of the atlantic, I dont think that I will buy another Halo just to be put into dedicated servers that I cant choose, that I am 100% certain will not be in my region either.

I have nothing against my North American cousins... I just dont like playing in games hosted there or by them lol.

For me this is a major point, and I am quite shocked that nobody has already brought this up.

Where are you stinkles??

I am currently playing Halo 3 online and there are 9.6k player online. Hollyshit. This game came out like 7 years ago.

I think it was proven that the in game counter is broken. Still there is hardly a wait for matchmaking, and a decent few players still. All thanks to the announcement of MCC and offering H3 Free With Gold, I'm sure.

I borrowed Halo 4 in preparation of the MCC, as I've never played it before.

I'm really liking the multiplayer so far, I'm not a huge fan of the loadout/perk/leveling stuff (it doesn't actually seem that bad though), but the core gameplay is solid and the game looks and runs great.

Explain to our small brains how that makes sense. Win 5, nothing. Lose one, go down.

winning against opponents of a lower level means nothing.

Losing against opponents of a lower level is very bad.

From the bnet thread
There are several possible explanations for this. The easiest one, and the one that fits the Trueskill system EXACTLY as explained by Microsoft, is that losing against a team that is X (I believe 6 or more, but experimentation is needed to determine the true value) skill points below you can cause you to lose as much as 5 times the Mu value that winning against even level teams gains you. Of course, winning against a team that has X more skill levels than you can net you as much as 5 times the Mu gain. The reverse is true as well. Winning against a weak team can count as little as 1/5th of an even skill win.

Damn I was active in that thread back in the day.

That's my feeling for the game. It plays great it just has some annoying fluff which can get in the way.

Far too many people say that the fluff on top completely ruins the game imo.

Agreed. I didn't love loadouts and all that jazz, but where hardly game breaking. I just wish the online community stuck around a bit longer.

I'm having no trouble finding matches, still seems pretty active.

Also, on 2nd campaign mission and wow, the graphics are really good, makes me excited to see what Halo 5 will look like.

They were game breaking which is one of the reasons why the community abandoned the game...

They were greatly disliked, but no one player exploited Promethean Vision or Hardlight Shields in an exploitable way. People simply didn't like them, and went back to Reach and H3.

If anything, lack of real post launch support killed multiplayer (at least in terms of numbers). Community Playlists were great, but it was too little to late at that point. I think 343 gets that and will prevent that I'm H5

Explain to our small brains how that makes sense. Win 5, nothing. Lose one, go down.

In all cases when people told me this on Optimatch, I was able to pull up their game history and explain why their rank didn't move.

What happened is your 5 wins were against opponents you were -supposed- to beat, because they were notably below your rank. When you lost and lost rank, that team was also under your rank, you were supposed to beat them, so you went down.

To level up in Halo 3 you had to consistently beat people at or above your rank. The higher the ranks you beat, the faster you leveled.

A fun result of how it works is that if you play ranked FFA, and you're at the bottom of the pre-game lobby, you have the biggest chance to rank up because the game expects you to lose to everyone else. If you're at the top of the list, you're expected to beat everyone else, and therefore get the appropriate amount of credit.

Halo 2's system was ELO, where they mapped 1-50 to numbers on the ELO scale and used the in-between numbers to simulate progression-towards-rank. However, ELO has quite a few issues, one of them being you can be deranked for winning.

My Halo Wars 2 question to Frankie hit some sites. I feel kinda famous.

Who wants to touch me?

I said who wants to fucking touch me?

I kid but I hope we get a sequel.

I'm not talking about a specific time period that I can pull up, but this is conjecture. I can't say whether or not the opponents were below or above my rank when things like this happened, but it's way too convoluted.

Indeed. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say:

2014 Q4: Halo: The Master Chief Collection (+ Halo 5: Guardians Beta)
2015 Q4: Halo 5: Guardians
2016 Q4: Another non-FPS (like Spartan Assault 2 or Halo Wars 2)
2017 Q3: Halo 3 Anniversary (DLC for TMCC)
2018 Q4: Halo 6: Reclaimers

Absolutley no way Halo 3 Anniversary is happening.

That doesn't make any sense, like...at all.

Did you even read what he wrote in parentheses?

Yeah, I read what he wrote in parentheses.

They have said on more than one occasion we are getting Halo 3 and 4 upped to 1080p and 60 fps and that it will suffice because they didn't need the anniversary treatment.

Making Halo 3 Anniversary DLC would be really redundant. It absolutely doesn't need to be redone with new graphics.

Is it just me or is this super obvious? We're getting the definitive version of Halo 3 this year...there is not going to be an anniversary edition of Halo 3.

You say that now, but wait until you see what Halo 5's graphics pipeline is capable of*. They would have had a few years to familiarise themselves with the hardware, and it'll be apparent that Halo 3 is the "worst" looking game in the collection. I'm not saying it's going to happen, just being optimistically speculative. Frankly I'd love to have a completely remastered Halo 3 campaign as it is my favourite in the entire series. Halo 3 would also be a good place to stop doing remasters, as it is the end of "The Original Trilogy".

Tell me you don't want this.

Haha, harsh.
Sort of true, though. Halo 3 isn't exactly the champion of high-fidelity character models, but they mostly sit fine in their environment. Hood just plain looks like he a few too many experiences with hyperspace demons.

The Halo 2 model isn't very detailed, but it's not terrifying to look at. Not that it would literally port into Halo 3's visuals very well, but seriously.

So when Halo 3 is made Anniversary and we have Halo 5 and 6 out on the market isn't it going to be "apparent" that Halo 4 is the worst looking Halo?

So they will remake that one too? Where will it end? Halo 1 and 2 had a great excuse being the only Halo's that were not HD.

Also I'm not sure it's fair to compare CG cutscenes with in-game renderings.

Halo 2 anniversary (cut-scene) model looks like he's been through some stuff.

I'm kind of with Solidsoul on this. Halo 1 and 2 are 2 console generations old at this point and unplayable online or in HD. That seems to be the main purpose behind the Anniversary updates. Not just replacing the models and textures which is all Halo 3 Anniversary would be doing at this point.
