Why is anyone acting all disappointed. Prior to today, many on here were saying Portugal would blow us out. We should have won this game. No opponent is taking the US lightly anymore.

Just let that marinate for a second.

We're in the 2nd toughest group and just lost a chance to lead the group. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm pleased as punch. The US men's national soccer team is a legitimate world player. This year for sure, and hopefully going forward. Advance or not, this is a great accomplishment.

Anyone counting us out so quickly against Germany hasn't learned their lesson yet. PEACE.
These points are exactly why people are disappointed. Going into the world cup I thought the U.S. had zero chance of making out of the group, and they were just 30 seconds away from doing it. I'm happy that the U.S. is improving, and if they make it out I expect them to lose almost immediately. It would have still been nice to see them in the next round.

Ignore the picture, it has way too much extraneous information on it:

If USA draws with Germany, USA and Germany go through

If Ghana draws with Portugal, USA and Germany go through

If USA loses to Germany and Portugal wins against Ghana, Germany goes through and either Portugal or USA will go through depending on goal difference

If USA loses to Germany and Ghana wins against Portugal, Germany goes through and either Ghana or USA will go through depending on goal difference

Now simply swap USA and Germany and you have the results should USA win.

Ghana wins.

The Nigel Thornberry commentator just trashed Bradley for centering the ball going up against Ghana vs. what the late sub did (forget his name, Wondoloski or something).

Yes that was a stupid move. Every youngstar learns that you keep the ball in the opposite side when you leading and only have some minutes left to play. The corner is the preferred spot for timeplaying.

Well let's see...

WW1: They joined in 1917 and aren't the major power that led to victory (that being both France and UK). It would have ended the same with or without them: badly for everyone.

WW2: The USSR beat Germany, killed more than 80% of the Wehrmacht and captured Berlin first. In reality, it was the effort of multiple nations (including the USA), but if we had to pick a "savior", it would be USSR, by FAR.

I know it started as a joke, but check your facts first because it was disrespectful.
Sorry for derailing the thread (although it's going to be buried in a minute haha).

Don't worry Stalin then decided to murder millions of his own people. That's why people have issues with calling the USSR saviors.

Can someone post the Marchisio gif where he is floating a la Dragon Ball?

Bummer about that buzzkill goal...US will have a good result with Germany, though.

Welcome to football USA, I'm sure you'll get soon the idea that it's a bitch of a sport and that it will hurt you, but you can't avoid to crawl for more.

Highs can be really high, lows can be devastatingly low, such is the nature of the beast.

To those who own a soccer jersey, do you guys buy them with names of your favorite player on the team, or ones with no names? I feel like I prefer ones without them for some reason, which sounds strange to me.

Names are the way to go, you need to support your favorite player.

Here are mine:

No, please don't get me wrong.
I always say the important thing is to win. No matter what.
They won both games.
That's what matters.
They are in good shape.

It's just expectations. Most expected Belgium to be one of the top teams of the tournament, and so far they are not.
The way they are playing right now USA has a chance to beat BEL.
That's all I meant.

Most of the so-called 'top teams' are underperforming. Chile and Costa Rica have been the two best teams so far, in my opinion.

I ain't mad at Bradley for sloppy play at the 11th hour after playing in that Amazonian slop. I ain't even mad at Ronaldo for crossing a perfect ball. Portugal earned that goal. What I am mad about is how anybody can justify two straight games of inexplicably adding 5 minutes of extra time when we're holding a tenuous 1 goal lead that we fought REALLY hard to obtain. Two games in a row this happened to us. We were lucky enough to hold out against Ghana and unlucky not to against Portugal, but the fact that the US had to face that scenario twice is dogshit.

I find it weird that so many people would rather have the USA and Germany collude than a normal, possibly exciting and/or devastating match.

wait USA is disapointed? whut? o_O

do you guys know how football works? you are basically through the group stage. Portugal needs a miracle to get through, and you won against Ghana so you have advantage there even if you lose and ghana wins

basically the only way the USA doesnt go through is if Portugal wins by 5 goal difference and/or USA loses by like 5 goals... and neither is going to happen looking at how both teams have been playing so far (USA stronger than expected, Portugal a fucking embarassment)

USA doing nicely, you should be happy / proud

Congratulations. He made a club I personally couldn't give two shits about relevant. He's been horrendous so far, and doesn't deserve to be playing right now.

do you give a shit about soccer? Name one dude from our bench who can run the game like him.

Hint, you can't

5 minutes has been standard for all the manous games. it's been 6 more than once. it's always shorter before half time.

watch more football.

Thanks for coming off as a douche bag for no reason whatsoever.

I wasn't even really serious. And you might want to spell the names of the host cities correctly if you're going to try to be a tough guy.

How is Germany's reputation after failing to beat and almost losing to Ghana which are ranked far lower than the US?

This doesn't work that way.

Germany usually has a weaker second game in a tourney, but they can even win the group with a draw and thats really all that counts. No one is looking at almost losing or FIFA Rankings.

Belgium has good players on paper but haven't proven themselves at the highest level. We have seen many such teams in the past, like Croatia a few years ago or Czech Rep a decade ago..

I think the expectations are too high outside of Belgium, people are just happy to see them in the top 16.

Klinsmann won't have the balls to do it but Bradley should be benched. It wasn't just that mistake. As some other poster said, he has been consistently bad this WC.

Perhaps the US shouldn't have had so many fake injuries that took time.
