This show is at it's strongest when Eva Green is on screen. It turns into a mystical, mysterious and engaging piece of entertainment.

Unfortunately I don't share the enthusiasm for Caliban, all he seems to do is look miserable and not stop blabbering. Personally I would do without his and Frankenstein's storyline altogether.

Anyway, I'm glad I enjoy half of each episode's scenes enough to watch every week.

and what the hell is somnolent obeisance? i googled it, somnolent is sleepy and obeisance is respect
sleepy respect? wat

Think of obeisance as an unquestioning following of orders/instructions. As used in terms of a vampire's thrall, the somnolent part refers to how they lose their consciousness yet still continue to move around, in the fashion of a person sleepwalking.

io9 updated its glorious PD chart.

The egyptologist still slays me.

For better or worse, most of these episodes end with relatively little to discuss.

That's the thing. The show is (blessedly) so thin on plot, that all that's really left to discuss is the writing, set design, acting and things of that sort, none of which lend themselves as well to discussion as story/plot does.

Caliban killed off Van Helsing, which seems kinda lame. That's less shocking, more disappointing.

I was disappointed by that as well. I thought old Val Helsing was a pretty cool dude and I feel like his death was more "Shocking!" than meaningful as a plot development.

Would be cool to see him as a charming and clever antagonist to our heroes rather than an just another ugly dumb beast monster.

On the other hand, vampires are almost always depicted as suave and sophisticated beings, so it would be a nice change of pace if PD's version of Dracula was more a more beastial interpretation of the character. (although I don't think he will be and I'm totally fine with that. I anticipate hearing the kind of eloquent monologues will surely come out of his mouth.)

So, is it Timothy Dalton's turn to have sex with Dorian Gray in the next episode?

God, I hope so.

Also the sex scene was super disappointing

How so?

I'm holding out hope for a Dorian/Frankenstein hook-up next. Dalton will eventually get his turn on the Dorian Gray train. Everyone will get a turn. Except Caliban.

ah ok, that makes sense now, thanks!

I think I would quiet enjoy the Dorian/Frankenstein encounter ..then Caliban burst into the room grabs Dorian and folds him up like a cardboard box shattering his bones/spine etc.

Having Dorian reappear later after such obviously fatal injuries would be awesome..then He might not admire his portrait as much seeing his death in the portrait and all that

The show drags for me whenever Hartnett or Dorian Gray are onscreen. But Green and Dalton keep me coming back. Eva Green is just a force of nature.

Man I really hope Billie Piper's character doesn't end up getting made into Caliban's bride, not sure I can take another season of her in a major role...

If she talks like a retarded Frankenstein then I will count it a vast improvement.

The ending of last week's episode was amazing.

"Hey I'm just gonna spin around in the air for a bit - that cool with you Timothy Dalton?"

All that condemnation, all the blame that she had for ruining his family out of spite, that she was consciously responsible for so much of his loss. All that gone in one perfectly undeniable moment.

Can't wait till tonight :)

Eva is indeed in a league of her own, but I think Reeve Carney captures Dorian Gray quite nicely as well. He has this uncanny preserved youth look about him that almost looks too young. Then he cracks a sly grin and has the look of someone who is older. His presence is actually pretty disturbing in that regard and he pulls it off perfectly.

My god this show

Vanessa blew up Chandlers spot about getting with Dorian.

This Montage through out the week set to this music is unreal, they are all going through hell. Dr is shooting dope,

Am I supposed to have some idea of what Chandler did at the end there/how he was able to do it or is it just another aspect of his shadowy past?

Great episode though.

"Do your fucking job and get out, you ridiculous man."

Frankenstein really does have some good lines.

After seeing the end of this episode and the preview for next week
I don't think Chandler is a Werewolf, which upsets me greatly because in the trailer for next week it looks like he gets over come by a horde of vampires

So... Chandler did what now?

I'm watching this now and I'm like wtf?
Dorian Gray don't stop by to try to hit it again? After weeks?

Eh, just imagine he came by and no one answered the door because they were busy.

The show smartly stayed focused on Vanessa and the events taking place in the house, rather than giving obligatory moments to other subplots.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record let me state once again that Eva Green is killing it.

Damn, she's just great and the rest of the show is quite good too.

I feel the same way.

Eva Green just goes all out. I'm also kin wondering why Chandler didn't do that in the first place.

He didn't believe till then.
If he had done that initially then the entire episode would have consisted of them spending him and Sembene talking over soup and shooting guns in the basement.

Yeah and then
the wolf will come out and kill everything.

Way too many questions around chandler right now

The devil just used him as a quick vessel right? Like he wasn't chandler the whole time

No he wasn't even in the room (at the end of the scene the camera pans down the hallway to downstairs and shows him on the couch). I take it as it was just the appearance the possession chose to take, like how it appeared as Sir Malcolm in Vanessa's flashback.

Really good episode. Love when the music kicked in during the montage of them fighting Eva. Josh Harnett's character is probably my favorite. Either him or Frankenstein. Nice to see them give Malcom's servant a few lines. Just wish he had revealed more.

So yeah really good episode. Just wish we would see Chandler's transformation at some point assuming he's a werewolf.

As expected, Josh Hartnett remains the weak leak in the show. So glad this show has an ensemble cast unlike Showtime's Camelot where the weakest link was also the main Character which meant the show tanked with Arthur's craptastic performance (despite a valiant effort by Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes).

he's definitely not in the league of all the british characters in here but still there's a far weaker link. the irish woman.

also i don't really think he's the main character. eva green's had the most runtime so far.

That's funny because I'm so sick of caliban... I would be surprised if our heroes are on deaths door, they are outnumbered and
plot armor caliban comes to the rescue, kills everything, drones on about how he needs a bride, do your job doctor... Bah, maybe I'm just mad over van helping needless death by him

I think Hartnett is doing just fine. I'm not liking the kid they got for Dorian Gray though.
I agree, Harnett/chandler is the most interesting character
We assume he is something, he has skills that he seems to not know about until he uses th k, the man is utterly clueless if he is indeed a Werewolf. Plus, he always seems to do what's right... Outside of the creepy Dorian Grey scene (imo creepy)

I just finished watching the latest ep, and this is what i gathered too.

Also, what's this about Sir Malcolm killing children in Africa? Did i hear that right? So much to take in, i agree with others saying it's pretty draining to watch.

Solid episode, Green is killing the role.

I hope the show continues to be good, though Showtime doesn't really have a good record with that.

That last minute was intense as fuck. Also how did Ethan know how to perform an exorcism? So he's a priest then? I guess his secret is finally revealed:
