GAFers with both the Xbox One and PS4...

When I get my PS4 (probably around Christmas if there are some good deals) I will buy most games on the Xbox One, and exclusives on the PS4. I'm fairly indifferent to resolution, most of the games I buy either have MP or co-op, and the majority of my friends on are Xbox live so I'll buy Xbox to continue to game with my friends.

It's mostly XB1 for me, because I prefer the controller and the OS by far. I'll get the PS4 version if it's a 720p vs. 1080p case though and it's a game I don't need the XB1 features for (suspend, recording vids, snapping stuff to the side)

Xbox One for everything as of now because I dislike my DS4 compared to the Xbox One controller & I prefer the Xbox One OS.

Xbox One: Multiplayer games and multiplatform FPSs (I can't stand the Dual Shock analogs for FPSs).

PS4: Everything else.

This is pretty much where I'm at right now, although my preference for the XB1 controller is slight.

I have both, but lately been prefering the xbox one simply for the controller and ui. I love both, and probably will buy more multiplats for ps4 in the end, but any game I feel needs shooting precision im going with bone.

Sitting on the sidelines without either of these systems is proving to be quite interesting. I am enjoying seeing the pros and cons being weighed out between those who own both as I make my final decision. And while I may be currently set on picking up the Xbox One, let's just say that I have not yet entirely closed the door on just getting a PS4 first. It's really kind of hard to come to a final decision with both offering something I want.

See, I'm not a fan of the X1's UI at all. It's way too cluttered, and even a simple task such as checking your installed games isn't as streamlined as it should be. I definitely prefer the PS4's simple, clean UI that's a snap to do anything.
Another massive difference between both consoles that haven't been brought up is game installs. On PS4 it's a super fast process, while the X1 takes forever. Really drags on and I made a thread on the nightmare that was Ryse. As crazy as it sounds I would've considered Wolfenstein for X1 because of parity, until I remember how fast PS4 installed the game. It's night and day.
As for the controller, I'm still in the early stages here. I feel the X1 shoulder bumpers feel kinda cheap. Otherwise they're both great controllers. DS4 is way better than DS3 for me.

For as much talk about the 1080p/900p difference that goes on every time a game is announced, it's pretty interesting to see how many people really don't care about in this thread.

that's a shame then. If power and pushing pixels is what one cares about then the PC is the best platform. Not sure why people would willingly limit themselves, but to each their own.

Because money is a thing that exists. Consoles offer more performance per dollar than PCs.

All things consider at this point there are stronger rational arguments for dropping both consoles and just get a PC

Get informed for realzies

I'd say there are actually stronger rational arguments for buying a single console and sticking with it than for any other course of action. That's the best gaming experience you'll get for the dollar.

I don't have to deal with this dilemma, but friends > resolution for mp.

But if most of your immediate circle winds up going with one platform, that's the platform effect. Becomes more pronounced later in the generation and is quite hard to change for the masses, who've been hearing "cheaper, better" for a year now, even if its just "better" at this point.

Not really. The best is both, but someone can pick up a PS4 or a XB1 and be set for the entire generation, with most games being released and speced out for those systems.
Most people aren't going to wait a year to play GTA VI.

Games that I plan on playing with my friends I get for my PS4 - my Xbox is mostly for single player experiences (multiplat wise).

Also if a game coming out has mind-blowing graphics, I'll get it for the PS4 to get the most out of it.

Same here. I'll take a simpler, faster UI any day. I'd even be okay with the PS4's UI being as simple as the PS3's XMB if it meant more speed. Speed and ease of use are the most important aspects of UI for me, i don't care about the aesthetics. Everything is an app on the X1, everything takes longer to load (firstworldproblems.gif, right?), and there are too many layers and clutter, imo.

UI rant over.

I have to add this in here now that I've had an Xbone for a few weeks. The triggers on it are much better than the DS4 but DEAR GOD HOW DID THEY FUCK UP THE THUMB STICKS SO BAD.

The PS4 UI may be clean now, but what happens a year down the road when you get like 20/30 more games/apps? omg the scrolling! Are there sort options in the games category?

This is what I mean with get informed for realizies. A good gaming PC is not that expensive compared to next gen consoles. Also no need to pay for online services, and you get so much more with a PC, including actually exclusive content: wildstar, dota, lol, zillion indies, GOG, free to play and what not.

If you are into AAA In the mid/long run getting AAA games on a PC is way cheaper, plus I can play Beyond Good and Evil, Dark Souls 2 and Watch dogs on the same PC. Backward compatibility since the 80s FTW.

Hmm, I'm sitting here watching FIFA, " Xbox go to my games". Boom there you go. No kinect? Press home button, Dpad right to my games and apps.

When I had my PS4 you had to scroll right alllll the way to the end to get to the library. To each its own.

Here we go with the PC bullshit in a console thread. Not everyone wants to be monitoring temps and troubleshooting why a game isn't running well on their setup.

Bought a PS4, but I have been utterly bored it, its features (which are awful), and it's games.

So I just bought an X1. I imagine I will buy multiplatform games that are performance intensive on the PS4. Everything else, the X1.

Xbox understanding is hit or miss. And then I have to find what I want amidst the clutter.

I guess it's what you're used to, but there's no denying PS4 is cleaner and less busy.

You bought a $400 console without researching about its features or games beforehand, and are now whining on the internet about being bored with it?

Miss information again, keep parroting that if you need to believe the lies.

Anyway, I don't want to derail the topic.

I do have a ps4 a xbone, and recently bought a wii-u. Xbone has got more playtime, because my friends are there, I like the controller better, and so far it has more exclusives that I like.

Sorry, where was the whining? Is this not a thread where those sort of opinions have been requested? What explanation do I owe you exactly?

Find what you want? Sort the tiles on any order you want. Or create your own tab with your own tiles.

With less games the PS4 UI is faster but when you start to make a small collection the Xbox One UI is a lot less cluttered compared to the PS4, even if only for the ability to sort content. In my opinion of course ;)

Not until Forza, Destiny, Halo, GT, Last of Us, Uncharted, Bloodborne, Crackdown, etc come to PC there isn't.

Don't act like the PC doesn't have exclusive games.

Besides which exclusives matter is, and always will be, a personal preference. I can really like Uncharted but hate Halo for example.

You owe me nothing, but i just find it funny how many people i come across who say they bought a PS4, but are bored with it because they didn't research their purchase beforehand. You're spending $$$, you would think people would know what they're buying and know whether or not they are going to get bored of it due to lack of games that appeal to them, and features that are "awful".

Getting caught up in the hype can be a very bad thing sometimes. The PS4 hype was real. Due to social media and Sony's viral video like sharing games, no DRM mic drop moment of Jack during the E3 2013 was a huge things leading up to the PS4 launch. Most of the people never research and just go with the flow and hype. I will just give you an example, among all my friends most of us bought both consoles because we can afford it and we play tons of games together. While one of my friend is not a huge gamer and was only going to get one console and he ended up buying the PS4. I am not saying he regretted the decision or anything but when he saw us playing Titanfall together and he couldn't join us and when Microsoft announced Halo collection which is a huge deal for people who play multiplayer with friends, he decided to sell his PS4 and get Xbox One. Due to good PS4 demand right now, he didn't lose much money either. So I can totally understand if someone bought Xbox or PlayStation purely due to hype and ended up getting bored with it.

Just to be accurate you can say PlayStation, Your Game too... you don't need camera for that.

For one you have to put on the headphones and for other you can pretty much be doing anything and call out the command. BIG DIFFERENCE. But please lets not make this a vs thread. It depends on what people preference. But calling these two things same is like calling there is no difference between 720p vs 1080p. Because I use voice command TONS on my Xbox and I know how convenient it is.

I'm alternating between both atm , leaning a tiny bit towards XB1 for its OS and features such as snap and suspend and resume and the monthly updates which so far have been great.

Totally unscientific quick test with a game running on both, store load times

XB1: 5.97s
PS4: 8.13s

PS4 for exclusives (PS+, Killzone, Infamous, and the Crossbuy/F2P games so far), XBO for everything else. All my friends are on Xbox, I prefer the OS, have more achievements, prefer the controller, etc. The resolution is the only argument on the other side, and the ones I just listed outweigh resolution for me.

Really unscientific because in load times right now PS4 has the edge... load and install times and the difference is not that small like your example :D.

Between the DS4 and the XB1 controller there is something great. Apart, they're both severely lacking. As you pointed out, it's hard for me to fathom how much MS fucked up the analog sticks. Specifically how loose and cheap they feel.

You specifically pointed out how easy it is to launch games on Xbox and how difficult it is on PS4. So having someone then point out you can also use voice commands on PS4 (whether using the camera or not) seems a fair counter argument. You then go something something BIG DIFFERENCE and then 'oh let's stop arguing' now that you got the last word in. And then repeat your point again.

You can't have it both ways

I have heard all sort of shit about Xbox One controller and mostly its about the bumpers and I can see why people wouldn't like it. But Analog stocks are fucked? and feels CHEAP? am I using the same controller as you? This is as premium as it gets. Just look at those texture around it, its not as tight as Xbox 360's but I find it more precise. But again I understand if you are complaining about lose sticks. But cheap? really? What you think of PS4's thumbstick and material then?

Starting games on PS4 is also easier with voice since PS4 doesnt require you to say the exact name of the game.

Yes, cheap. They're so loose that they're constantly banging into the sides of the little well that they're enclosed in and it sounds/feels cheap to me. The tops of the sticks are great. Much better than what Sony did with the DS4. I also think the XB1 controllers are cheap because of the difference in build quality from controller to controller.

I just pointed your point is not accurate because start a game on PS4 is even more easier than XB1 with voice commands... so your post is pointless to be fair.

The advantage to X1 is you can do it while doing anything including watching TV. Its not equal.

Yup. I was originally saving for a gaming PC before deciding it just wasn't my thing. I'm a console guy, plain and simple.

The AMD/nVidia tessellation brouhaha was a nice reminder to me, personally, for one of the reasons I got off that train.

To the point of the thread, while I don't own an Xbox One (yet), my personal preference is to buy games for whichever console I am playing primarily at that moment in time, with Playstation generally winning ties. I prefer not to diverge from the controller layout I'm currently using.

Last gen I went 360 despite owning PS3 for various reasons, the biggest being the controllers. I much preferred the 360's. It's also just where I have established online friends.

This gen I like the DS4 a LOT and PS4 is taking the performance crown fairly easily so I've been buying multiplats for it instead of my XBO. Although I've double bought a few to check them out and because my wife still prefers Xbox.

If MS had stuff with their plans I'd probably be buying most on the XBO ironically. I loved the idea of being able to treat a disk purchase like a digital license, am always online, and don't trade in my games. Family sharing MIGHT have also saved me from buying 2 copies of games for my wife and I as well depending on the terms. But alas they abandoned those plans.

The advantage to X1 is you can do it while doing anything including watching TV. Its not equal.

His original point was started from the PS4's long list, so assuming you're already in the OS. Switching from one game to another is a separate thing vs what was being discussed. It is an advantage technically but I don't do it that often - personally I'm more likely to switch from a game to an app/TV or vice versa
