Well, thats true, his serve is big. But its big because he is tall and in being tall he'll have trouble with low bouncing balls. And the bounces are usually at its lowest on grass, which isn't optimal for someone like Isner. I imagine any decent slice would be a nightmare for him on this surface. Footwork is also much harder to get right on the grass. Even Raonic with his big serve probably prefers the clay to grass because that surface gives him more time to set up his ground strokes.

The tall guys need to get advice from Berdych on how to move on grass. He was a wimbledon finalist not too long ago

Speaking of Berdych, he's the latest ATP player to pose nude in the ESPN magazine Body issue. I won't post the pic here for obvious reasons, but you guys know how to Google

True, but despite his limitations you'd think he'd be able to make it past the second round at least. Even Karlovic. who's a big server and arguably a worse player than Isner, has managed better than that. To be fair though, he's only played 5 Wimbledons, so maybe he'll get there at some point. I think he should at least make it to Wawrinka.

If he plays a 5 setter at Wimbledon, he's almost guaranteed to be bounced in the next round. Today he wasn't really tested against the British Wild Card, so he should be at full strength in the 2nd round.

Assuming Wawrinka makes it there. :P He is no wonder on grass either, as it were. The American hope might just make his deep dig this year. ;) Though I might add that Isner relies a lot more on his ground strokes than someone like Karlovic, who lives and dies by his serve & volley.

Picture should've told you everything you need to know. The legend Vera Zvonareva and my #2 fave. Back after a loooong injury break.

I wasn't aware she was known for throwing a towel over her head. The British Wild Card is giving her a run. Too bad the sun went down, so the match won't finish until tomorrows action.

edit: Croatia has 2 upcoming 17 year old girls. Ana Konjuh, and Donna Vekic both won their first round matches today. I love watching prospects do well! 17 y/o Belenda Bencic v. 18 y/o Victoria Duval in the 2nd round will be a fun match

edit: Only 4 american men left after round 1. This is historically the Americans best surface too. Come back Pete Sampras!

I actually thought Stan might lose in the first round so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt lol

Bepa was hardly expected to play in slam level again, even though she was in the Wimbledon final just two years ago - so I'm simply happy to see her playing more pro tennis before retirement.

I've got Bencic in my fantasy tennis, good prospect.

Q: What’s been the toughest part of the last 12 months?

Janowicz: I lost my skill in Battlefield.

Q: How did you lose your skill on the battlefield?

Janowicz: I lost my ranking a little bit and I had—killing rate was much higher than now. I had 2.2, now it’s 1.8.

Q: What do you mean?

Janowicz: You have killing statistics and death statistics

Q: Like a video game?

Janowicz: Yeah.

Q: And now you’re getting killed more often?

Janowicz: Yeah, definitely.

Q: Any specific video game that has that stat?

Janowicz: Battlefield.

Q: Oh, just Battlefield.

Janowicz: Yeah, that’s it.

lol

She's one of my faves, great game but her mental is weak :(. One of the weakest

i don't think it will. i think it will be like isner-mahut after the marathon: people hyped it up and then it was easy three sets for isner. rosol is just going to go for everything and miss most of it and nadal will just have to wait it out. nadal in three.
Yep. Thos Rafa is goingto routine him. O way for him to even take a set.

Blaz Rolla suxks.

Vera came through, tough fight, good to get a win under her belt

So happy she won, I thought she's already lost at 4-3 and down a break.

And great result for Aga too, I really want her or Serena to win this year.

Speaking of ESPN body issue, I hope they could get DelPo but there's no chance he'd do it :(

i'm fine with Stan too

Matosevic should have won literally every single one of those sets. I do not understand how someone can be so mentally strong when behind, but so piss poor when in the lead. It's like he has permanent underdog syndrome.

Ferrer out. Dimitrov has an even better opportunity to make the quarters now.

It's not like Dimitrov is exactly an amazing grass-courter, though. He's already exceeded expectations by making 3R for the first time ever, after four failed attempts.

until this year he had not made it past the third round in any slam. he has always shown the potential to do something big on grass, and he just won queens a week ago.

There's always a first time. He's playing pretty well so far.

Yes, defeating grasscourt giants of the game such as a British wild card who couldn't even qualify for the event normally, a doubles specialist also renowned for being a mug of gigantic proportions, a player who couldn't even be bothered to turn up, and lolwrinka in full choke mode. The only decent grasscourt player he faced in the entire run was Lopez in the final. That was, admittedly, a rather nice win, but one decent win on a surface where he has historically done very poorly does not "potential" make.

That said, I'm of the opinion Dimitrov is massively overrated anyway.

*shrug* kind of weird you can't see that dimitrov has the game to do very well on grass, but whatever.

I mean, if he apparently does have this game, why have his results been so poor? If we take a brief sample of the top few players at Wimbledon and look at their early careers, they all did much better - Murray made the QF by his third appearance, Djokovic made the SF by his third appearance, Nadal made the final by his third appearance, Federer made the QF by his third appearance, Berdych made 4R by his third appearance, Tsonga made the QF by his third appearance, and so on. This is Dimitrov's fifth try, and it's the first time he's made 3R. He's tracking behind basically every player to have made at least the QF of Wimbledon in the last few years except del Potro.
