This changes nothing.

I agree. It changes nothing in terms of outcome. But it can change how you feel about it. That's why the "Not Like This" GIF gets posted because while the Dutch did bring the pressure in the second half (so I will not call this win undeserved) it's not a good feeling to see flopping so richly rewarded.

Looks like Justiça wins.

It was a pen, he steped on his toes. I'm angry cause Mexico was the better team but Netherlands had Robben basically. It's always the same story with Mexico. Play better than expected, go to round of 16, play better than your oponnent and still lose because of stupid mistakes or relaxing. Fuck my life.

Yep.

In the post match interview Robben apollogised for a dive he made earlier:p Said that he sometime expects contact and reacts to it, even if there isn't any contact.

Good thing he was actually fouled then.

I couldn't tell you because I don't have an instinct for flopping. Robben, of course, does. But Robben also has excellent control of the ball, and he wouldn't have put in a heavy touch like that into 3 Mexican defenders if he didn't already have it in his mind to flop. Even had Marquez not made any contact with his foot, his action almost certainly would've been the same.
The ref had to call the penalty. Looking at the replay, though, I agree, it's not just that he jumps, he didn't seem terribly concerned about where the ball is going. He probably would have been pretty dumbfounded if he hadn't been challenged.

I like that now that we're past the "it wasn't a penalty!" phase we've entered the "...but he had flopping in his heart from the beginning."

It's a foul with or without theatrics. He was impeded in the box.

I'm over it already. Ultimately it's Mexico's fault for that shit play after the goal. You give a team like Netherlands 10+ corners, you're asking for it.

Pulling for the US and France.

Brazilian "experts" are absolutelly trashing your coach right now saying that he made the team play defensivelly after the first score.

Not sure if it's his fault or instinct from the players.

An even smoother look at the dive.

whatever man, i don't care. I like Borrussia Dortmund so you can bet that i don't would invite Robben to a dinner but you can't step to him like that, that close to the goal. How Robben flails after the contact is just robben beeing robben.

He immediately substituted Santos so it was clearly on his orders that the Mexicans fell back. It was a stupid decision, he should have cancelled it when the Dutch were pressing too much.

So why are people automatically jumping the gun to say that what Marquez did was intentional? It looks like was going for the ball and his foot came in contact with Robben's foot by accident. Marquez looks like he had eye contact with the ball at all times so idk. Just my two cents about the thing.

Aiii

So not worth it

Disagree, Mexico played better in the first half, though not by much at all. The second half they were dominated, Mexico's defense and especially their goalie kept Oranje from scoring sooner, but you barely had any say in the game anymore.

LOL, so much salt and Robben hate here. You guys should hate the defenders who keep challenging and tackling Robben inside the box when he's a known diver. They got lucky with their foul during the first half, that was a so much more obvious penalty that was denied, and then they risk doing it again near the end and were caught.

I really fucking hate this bullshit. Simply because you don't agree with a call doesn't mean your new to the game. Bullshit posts like this need to stop.

I'd normally agree with you, but I'm seriously confused as to how anyone can say it wasn't a penalty. I really can't understand it. It ticks all the boxes of a penalty decision and I've seen them been paid hundreds of times before for similar challenges. Any football fan would have.

Any other player than Robben and this sort of outrage would be much less. Reputation should never get in the way of a call like that. Ever. Not that it never does but still, the less the better.

The ref made the right decision. Whether Robben looked like an idiot going down after it is irrelevant.

I'm an Aussie so I introduce new people to the sport all the time so I'm cool with new people.

That doesn't give them any right to go stupid and hate on the correct decision just cause the player dives often.

It's all on the players, his substitutions were good, but the players didn't want to play anymore, they tried to ride it till the 90th minute and failed, always the same with Mexico.

Yup, he said he made one dive in the first half. Robben always used to be injured, he has learnt to prevent injuries by reducing risk, seems sensible to me.

Good game. Good world cup Mexico. We build a good squad in a short amount a time. Stay positive. We will be back with Vela in 2018

Robben just said on Dutch TV that he made one schwalbe (not the one that he was awarded a penalty for) and that he was sorry for that.
