Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

She told him to fuck off because asking "What if blank was the most qualified" is the stock response. Anyone interested in diversity in the work place is tired of it.

I can understand that, but you have to agree that it is a pretty bad way to represent yourself. Nevermind the attacks, those would have happened regardless cause those people are shitheads who just look for excuses, but what if this guy just asked an honest question? It could be a stupid stock response, but it could also be just some dude who has no idea of what's going on. And it's not like the question is completly unreasonable.

I'm not saying her response isn't understandable but it's also not really helping anybody here.

Why people should never pay attention to her, in a quick simple image.

God forbid people prioritize being qualified for a job over demographics.

Where did the fire start?

Are people really that upset that Dan and Jason were hired?

no, not really honestly.
maybe there was a a lot of reactions/disappointment/discussion about it
but the upset people are the morons who are attacking anyone who is expressing feelings about the new hires

If Jason uses
T-Hawk; Yolo, 50/50s, willing to take hits. I like
Blanka; hop, mixup, lame play or plays to annoy. Boo Jason boo.
Elena; high/low mixups, footies. I like
Dee Jay; he is the worst character in the game. Maybe he likes the challenge. The struggle is real for Jason.
Dhalsim; careful play character, keep away, can be trolly. Best choice/my main
Makoto; Yolo, offensive and good execution required, flashy. I like.

You mean regarding Dan and Jason? Oh sure, but I was referring to all this nonsense surrounding that. :(

Good to hear. Rorie's a pro at handling stuff like that.

The mods have been very swift on dealing with all of this nonsense. While valid discussion is aloud they are avoiding spilling over the arguments to the forums.

And now she says she's going to delete her tweets to stop redirecting the conversation onto herself. After it's completely derailed beyond help.

Literally called it hours ago. I can't.

Never seen someone so self involved that it takes this long to realise you're the one stopping the very conversation you're claiming to champion.

No.

People really are that upset that people criticized Dan and Jason being hired.

Yeesh.

no, not really honestly.

Yeah, and unfortunately some folks meet boorish behavior with exponentially boorish behavior.

It's kind of hilarious though.

Sure, "what if they were the most qualified people?" is a stock response, but it's perfectly legitimate. The advocates get made because they think it implies that non-white males are not qualified, but that is not the case at all.

You really have to look at each specific instance. Honestly, their being indignant about the comment makes it seem like they will not accept any situation in which the non-white male is NOT more qualified than the white male.

Giant bomb is going to have to have a formal apologie or statement on this. It's getting really ugly fast. It's going to get much worse soon.

Apology for what? Some members of the community/Reddit acting like shit? I guess that could maybe calm this down a bit.

edit: I forgot that I was going away from the internet for a while. Now I'm doing that! See you guys when the live stream on thursday starts :)

Akuma > everyone else.

:(

Mods are all pretty 'safe'. Nobody did anything bad/wrong and the ZP Twitter account was made to be more of an issue than it actually was.

As far as the official tweets - I believe it's in regards to the people asking for more information about other people getting banned and whatnot - obviously our rules apply to everyone so we have and will ban premium members but we often get a lot of backlash from that.

Again. Everyone is all good and we are just continuing the to put out the fires.

The unfortunate thing is how little attention is given to all the positive attitude posts which are outweighing the negative... Blech.

It's really not fair to isolate a tweet and response whether it's Leah, Samantha, or whomever when they are reacting in large part due to an incessant deluge of abuse.

Stay safe you guys !

What about that Samantha person's tweet is unfair?

There is no excuse for responding like that. I don't care how perturbed you are from trolls. Get the fuck off Twitter if you can't respond like a decent human being.

Or don't, but be prepared to be lynched, because you don't just get to insult people in public without a response.

It's out of context though. People react with spiteful tweets when they are backed into a corner. It happens all the time. People poked at her until they got what wanted, then a shitstorm ensues.

She posted a stupid tweet. Someone responded with a non-hurtful response. She responded with that.

I don't think there's any context in the world that could make her not look like a complete tool bag.

That's how a lot of these arguments go, though. The people arguing the case for equality are often just as bad as the ones they're arguing against. In any case, it's sad to see Giant Bomb being dragged into all of this, and it's worse to see the community all up in arms and acting ridiculous. It doesn't actually help anything, it only serves to make our community look just as bad.

Wow. What silly criticisms. They sound just as scary and troubling as what they seem to think they are "fighting" against. Doesn't warrant the crazy internet backlash though. They didn't deserve any feedback at all, really.

Christ, I remember dealing with this stuff on gametrailers.

I never ever ever wanna be a mod again.

Oh, and people should stop hating Samantha Allen for that tweet. She's a voice we need and simply lashed out on one tweet after receiving hours of abuse.

Embrace thoughtful people with intelligent arguments. Reject shit stirrers.

Twitter is such a weird thing now. I guess it doesn't do as much harm as it does good, but it sure facilitates pouring more fuel into the most inopportune fires.

I think you guys are continuing to view everything in the context of what's presented in this thread and only that. She responded to that tweet harshly (and I think deservedly so), but it's not like that was the sole tweet she's recieved and it likely wasn't the first she had to respond to.

EDIT:

Cya, duder. Hopefully this shit dies down by then. It's really not cool, and I feel bad for Dan and Jason. Not exactly a warm welcome.

She is not a thoughtful person with intelligent arguments if that's how she responds to someone. She's just as bad as anyone abusing her.

Goddamn... people defending "go fuck yourself" in response to a legitimate (even if standard) question.

It's just not OK. I don't care how much you like the person who flipped out like that. Consider the context of how public Twitter is. You need to keep your cool. Defending that kind of behavior just shows your bias in favor of that person.

I think most people are seeing the bigger picture here. All quite sad, really.

You realize that "they hired the most qualified person" is basically a troll response right? That's why she reacted angrily.

I wonder how long until we all just recognize that twitter = youtube comments. No one gets all enraged when a youtube comment says "go fuck yourself" or is an insult/threat, these days it's just acknowledged that youtube comments are shit.

Twitter is the same exact thing.
