That ball was absolute shit. Flying everywhere. It's one of the main reasons not as many goals were scored last time besides Spain.

It worked the other way around too a bit as it was a nightmare for the goalkeepers just like the 2006 ball. The recurring theme in those world cups was fumbling goalkeepers, which is almost absent this time around.

Sanchez has been better than both of them; he was the best player on the pitch against Brazil. Neymar had a good first half and was poor for the rest of it. He was also poor against Mexico, whereas Sanchez has been good in all of Chile's games.

Cuadrado has been brilliant, but I don't think he's been better than Sanchez, Rodriguez and Robben. If I fit him in then the rest of the team is lopsided; this is legitimate m8, not just fucking throw players ANYWHERE

It's funny, because you have Blind as fullback, a position he didn't start in in all of his games. Van Gaal sure likes to shuffle around a lot, that tactical mastermind. I think you'll enjoy him over the course of the season. For the most part anyway. :lol

Only now I find out children go out with the players for a freaking McDonalds campaign about "promoting physical activities".

Lol.

Oh there are plenty of other reasons. Alex Morgan being one of them :)

That body paint picture of her... :D

On another note, I haven't followed the news since the USA game. Has there been any talk about Klinsmann's future? I'd like him to stick around. He grew up 15 km away from where I live.
My mother in law's sister even went to school with him (different class, same year).
It's a small world.

edit:

Hope just got arrested. There are already calls to drop her. So good luck with that.

Yeah, I've read about that. She seems like a bitch but she has the looks to win over the hearts of the americans. Any incentive to get americans interested in soccer is appreciated, haha!

it's a shame that the US lost. we played decently during the first half, but decided not to show up for the second half. i still can't figure out why the hell our passing is so poor. i mean, what do these guys do during practice? lastly, they showed some real drive and spirit the last 10 or so minutes of the match. why couldn't they be that team during the first and second halves?

belgium deserved the win. congrats to them. clearly we were outclassed. if the US could develop their passing game we could be a decent team. it's hard to watch us struggle so much. i think i'm throwing my support behind either the dutch or the germans. haven't decided yet.

Read today the ball used in 2010 was the reason Spain won as it fit their play perfectly . The ball was extra floaty in the air and caused havoc during long balls and crosses. Essentially van persie's header in first game wouldnt have happened with that ball in 2010

So what was the reason for Spain winning two European Championships in a row?

Don't we have:

2015: Pan Am (Men U23, Women all age for North and South America)
2015: Women's World Cup
2015: Copa America
2016: Euro
2016: Olympics (Men U23, Women all age)
2017: Confederation Cup

That's because no team can sustain such momentum for the whole game. Also it provides excuse like "base on the last 15 minutes USA should be through!" non sense. They tried to repeat what they did to Ghana but that does not always work.

Their passing is surprisingly bad though.

i understand that it cannot be maintained. i was just suggesting they should have been more aggressive offensively during the first two halves. there was a significant chunk of time early in the first half where they dominated possession and were on the attack, but they spent the rest of the match defending.

and yes, their passing is so bad that it is borderline insane. no team playing in the world cup should pass that poorly. i wonder if it is a confidence thing. they often pause and seem unsure what to do with the ball when a defender puts pressure on them.

It's a small world.

Klinsmann said in an interview that he wants to return to the U.S. for the 2018 World Cup.

Then again I heard rumors that England would be interested in him.

You just beat my team (Greece), so I want to be clear so you don't think this is sour grapes that you DID deserve that win, so try not to get too up in arms with what I am about to say :p

Greece is a team that, outside of the very mercurial Samaras, has no real striker threat. They found success for the first time in their history in 2004 by adopting Otto Rehhagel's defense-first system and winning perhaps the biggest upset in football history when they won Euro 2004 after never having won a single World Cup or Euro Cup match before that tournament began. They have since then been somewhat improved from pre-2004, at least now they regularly qualify for World and Euro Cups when they didn't before.

Their style is extremely defensive play, in hopes of opening up quick counterattacks. Many people hate on them for this reason.

Ok, now to the Costa Rica game.

Even before Costa Rica got the red card, Greece was controlling the ball and the game. They somehow allowed what was probably the slowest kick of the world cup to become a goal, defender was asleep and our keeper looked like he was in shock. After that, Costa Rica hardly ever threatened again. Greece got a clutch goal to force overtime but then could not close in overtime (again, no good strikers) so Costa Rica held on with 10 men and won in penalties.

Here's the difference, Netherlands is NOT Greece. If they get the looks we got vs. Costa Rica, they will score. A lot. And if Costa Rica allowed a team notorious for its trolling defense to control possession for most of the game, they have very little chance against Netherlands. Of course anything can happen, maybe Netherlands have a bad day or something. But if they are playing even close to their regular level, it ends here for Costa Rica, sorry.

I'm starting to think that though Costa Rica's upset win of their group remains impressive, it isn't only because of their stellar overperforming play. I think their opponents were just shit. Italy was good and will be good again but clearly seems to be "in-between" eras right now, Uruguay had Suarez and not much else as the game vs. Colombia without him proved, and England....well you know.

Of course, if Costa Rica DOES win, quote this and let me eat some crow :)

And Netherlands does not have the Greece defense, I mean Australia made them 2 goals, I certainly hope you eat crow. We have nothing to lose and much to gain!! But enough talk, let´s see what happens on Sat. Good luck everyone who is on Qtrs Finals!!

What??

They should be. Fuck the 'we need an English manager' bollocks. Klinsmann is 1000x better than Hodgson could ever dream to be.
First result googling her name:

Solo’s 17-year-old nephew told police she was upset and appeared to have been drinking when she arrived at a family gathering. She and her nephew got into a fistfight after arguing about his acting aspirations and she called him fat and crazy, according to court documents. When the boy’s mother tried to break up the confrontation, Solo punched her in the face, the documents said.

The nephew broke a broom over Solo’s head and the teen pointed a broken BB gun at her and tried to get her to leave, the documents said.

Man, one would think the Netherlands have won a World Cup with that kind of talk. Let me check:

NED: 0
CRC: 0

Yep, that's what I thought.

We always had a great team in the past 40 years but we always lacked that finishing touch. That touch Brazil, Argentina and Spain does have.

This is it for us Dutchies. This will be the last true WC for a long time where we have our moment to shine.

I'm not saying we have a great defense or anything, but the goals we conceded against Australia were Cahill his out of this world volley and an easy given penalty.

England would be favourites to win the world cup if they got Klinsmann with their talent.

Klinsmann turned a crap US side into something half decent in 4 years after they sent Sr. Nepotism packing. What is even funnier is that Jr Nepotism even played better under him.

Probably won't happen but hopefully Howard's heroics yesterday inspires more kids in the U.S. to play soccer and keep the sport growing here.

I don't see how he could have actually gotten that ball in, the GK took away just about every angle.

Courtois stepped up big when he had to. I can see now why he's a top 5 in the world.

Courtois is IMO the best goalkeeper on the planet right now. Messi will have another opportunity on saturday, hopefully things will go his way this Saturday.

Looks as though she's already in PR mode. So if things blow over perhaps she'll be back sooner rather than later. But if the charges stick...welp.

Keeper closed down well but he's got to hit the target and force a save at the very least. He missed the target entirely and that really just isn't good enough.

Wow, even my most cynical friends who love the #SoccerFail stuff and only like soccer when their chosen teams are dominating really came around last night and had nothing but praise for the US effort. I was expecting to hear them upset about it all, but it looks like the team punching above their weight really rallied even the most terrible of fans around here.

It should be interesting to see how the talent search/development goes over the next 4 years. It's obvious that the USMNT needs more options on the attack. I wish Beckerman was a bit younger. He played great for his first go with the USMNT and in this level of competition. I think he should have been on the field yesterday to help with the passing issues and just overall more toughness Ah well, it was a good run.
