All the Brazilian players will never be allowed to forget this match, especially considering how mental they are about football over there.

Neymar dodged a huge bullet by getting injured and not playing in the clusterfuck today. With being ridiculously good at football and now this, dude is probably the luckiest human alive.

Brasil had just so much pressure, they were designed if as they had to win from the start, when they got the second goal they couldn't handle the pressure and totally lost it, i remember Milan vs Liverpool in 2005 was something similar, those 10 mins of blackout from Milan cost them the Champions League...

That's true, he retained his mythical status (in Brazil) by not being a part of this game.

It's unbelievable because it happened to Brazil... the greatest powerhouse in the history of football.

Also were Americans really saying 'at least we only let in one'? fuckinglol

I'm sure this has been asked already but the thread's huge... Anyone have a link to or torrent of the game? I watched it live (with about a hundred Brazilians, lol) but holy shit I need to see it again. Idiot brother failed to record it.

Very few times I've ever felt like I've witnessed history after a football match. First time I can really remember was Man Utd beating Bayern in the CL Final back in 1999. Then Liverpool's comeback vs Milan, and Zidane's famous headbutt.

It almost makes your head spin when you see something that you know you and everyone else will be talking about for the rest of your lives. We will never watch a Brazil team at the World Cup where this match isn't discussed ad nauseam. Amazing.

Also, this world cup was really only missing one thing. A 'great team'. Now it has one in Germany. 4 semi finals in a row, knocking on the door in the euro cups too, getting better all the time. All they needed was a signature performance and now they've got it. If they win the Cup, they go down as true greats.

EDIT: Also, hopefully the myth of Brazilian football ended tonight. They haven't played Joga Bonito, or whatever the fuck that is, since the 80s. My dad was at the 1994 final, I remember watching it. That was a dull team. 2006, 2010, 2014 - all standard teams, no magic to them. There's 5 legendary footballing nations in my eyes - Germany, Italy, Holland, Brasil and Argentina. Listening to some people you'd think it was Brazil and a bunch of peasants.

Wow, this match was a landslide.

How bad was the riot?

I was in rio down at the beach TV screens. There was a bit if a stampede after a few people claim there was a guy holding a gun. Then cops, military police and riot police surrounded the area preppie quit and any sense of riot was over pretty quickly.

I'm back at the apartment now so there might be more going on but I didn't see much. People started walking out and yelling at the screen after the second goal, by the time the fith went in, probably half the people inside the fan fest (a sectioned off section with screen on huge beach) had left.

It's been a big party over here, I've not seen any trouble so far, only heard about the gun tonight when I got back to the apartment but I don't know if that is true yet or not.

I can't believe no one got banned for the nazi references. That was in very poor taste.
Were there ones that were insulting or went over the board? Just using Hitler as personification for Germany isn't really all that bad imo. It's like complaining that Lincoln, or Uncle Sam is used for memes to represent the USA. As long as it's not too distasteful and doesn't touch some delicate subjects, personally - as a German - I don't see the problem.

That Hitler picture who was playing on a PS3 or something was pretty alright imo.

WTF

As far as Brazil and riots etc, you'd think its more of a depressed go home/into a hole and cry result instead of RAAAAAAAAAGE!

Not like the ref mistake cost the team or some other rip off.

Just how my personal feelings are, maybe NZ mentality is different to South American, I dunno haha.

I guess could be rage directed at the actual team which is sad. :(

Does it really? You know what I mean?

It doesn't matter to progress in the world cup. It matters to the future of the players, the ranking of the team going forward, and how people react moving forward.

Does it matter if a basketball team loses 99-100 or 0-100?

Of /course/ it matters.

Okay... Do you happen to think it would have been appropriate if they were playing against Poland or Israel?

It's about iconic people you connect to a particular country. Could you name more people than Hitler and Merkel, you'd immediately connect to Germany? Maybe Beethoven etc, but except for a few particular pictures, you wouldn't really recognize them right away. Also, there ware no fotos of them, so it's hard to shop something up.

and it sends a message at club level.
Marcelo will be the sub at Real Madrid while Coentrão becomes full time starter

I think this is bigger than the Maracanazo; at least the humiliation is. All the history makes it bigger. By the time of the Maracanazo Brazil still hadn't won a WC (I think it was their first final).

I can't believe no one got banned for the nazi references. That was in very poor taste.

I think someone was.

No riots afaik, just sadness.

lol, I'm just joking. It's a mix of the 5 stages of grief and cheap booze doing the talking.

I haven't seen any riots in Brazil today so far. People are passionate but not like that. Brazilian national team supporters aren't that violent.
