Feels more like a fake/fun rivalry to me to be honest.

We love German cars, German highways, the export to Germany is one of the biggest economical benefits we have, overall its a pretty healthy relationship. Maybe some football rivalry is present but that's just fun and games.

If we lose tonight I hope Germany takes it, make Europe proud :)

Yeah, outside of football matches it is not a rivalry at all. More like best friends. At least everyone I know LOVES the Netherlands. And disregarding that single disgusting action in '74 finals it's a very friendly football rivalry as well :D

Come on, I'm Dutch but what you're saying is not true.

The Dutch-German rivalry probably comes from these things:

- The Netherlands and Germany are neighboring countries
- The Netherlands and Germany are pretty well matched against each other
- World War II (although, that's now MUCH less of an issue than it was a few decades ago)
- The Dutch lost a finale against Germany
- Dutch players, like Robben, play in Germany

Also, a lot of Dutch people go on vacation to Germany, while a lot of Germans often visit the Dutch beaches. So we 'know each other'.

I'm already so happy we're possibly seeing a NED/GER final. It's the dream.

I live close to the border so if we win I might actually get my feet wet from the flooding tears.

I stand by my prediction yesterday. I also predicted 3-0 for Germany lol


The remaining teams are all my favourite teams in this world cup. I can't get any happier, and more confused now!!

Germany has always been my favorite by default (family), and Holland is very close to my heart.. I'm not sure who to root for if they both reach the final.. I kinda want Germany to get their 4th but more for Holland to get their important first.. and against germany it will be a great win.

I don't know :( .. I don't think I'll be super happy watching the final, but on the bright side I love both teams so I won't get too sad too..

I actually think it all comes from WWII.

The Netherlands were overrun by german troops and surrendered after only 4 days of resistance.

I do think that the rivalry is more or less just for fun today though.
 
Hell, Argentina played some decent football for like 25 mins cumulative this tournament so maybe they can wake up this match, but I don't see them beating Netherlands.

Look, Fred's shit. Everyone knows that. Yet Luiz and Marcelo went beyond shit yesterday. They fired themselves into the stratosphere of amateur, schoolyard moron football, never in position, never the first to react, never doing their job properly. And no amount of Luiz tears makes up for his complete lack of mentality yesterday. If he cares, he should show it on the pitch by making the right decisions, rather than trying to turn it into the David Luiz show and leaving the entire team in the shit. Luiz's presence was a bigger factor to last night's disgraceful embarassment than Silva's absence was.

Yet where were the boos for those two? The two whose job it is to prevent the other team scoring? The two who are supposed to be good? The two who just happen to have futures in the team. And that's the real point here. Those twats in the the stands were happy to boo a player who is likely to be left out of the setup in coming tournaments, after all, who cares about his confidence if he wont be playing for us? Oh there he is on the big screen having been subbed off, let's boo him again because hey, we need a scapegoat and we can't blame the people who are actually most at fault.

Though I hate you Duth guys who come over here and still only drive 120kmH on the Autobahn.

jesus, what a match! i was confident the germans would handle brazil, but i never saw that coming... had an awesome time watching the match though. we were all just watching in disbelief the entire time. still, it was cool to witness history.

i'm hoping the dutch win today. i think they have a better shot than argentina at giving the germans a run for their money in the final. 8 hours to go!
