Since there's still players like Ronaldo. The difference is, everywhere Ronaldo goes he performs. So far Messi mostly shines at Barca. There is no accurate reliable way to measure who's the greatest and Messi had his moments, but this WC is not very convincing in the debate about GOAT or not. And better then Pele or Maradona? Hard to tell but doubtful.

Ronaldo played for a better national side than this Argentinian side . Surely you are not saying Brazils side was on par with this Argentinian side as a whole are you ?

Messi has created the most number of goal scoring chances with 19 before this match this world cup.

He is always surrounded by 3 defenders, the reason why lavezzi and higuain were getting so much space and chances

Qouted for substance and facts

Ron Beton, what a beast today. He needs a better club than Aston Villa

I'm not taking anything away from Argentina; they played very strong defensively. As did the Netherlands, for the most part.

But if I'm the Dutch coach (and I'm not, I don't look like a rooster, nor do I know a hell of a lot about football), I'm going into this game with a stronger offensive mind. I didn't feel like they were playing for penalties, but the game almost seemed delegated to kicks.

Which leads me to another question: why did they not save a substitution for their reserve goalie?

Van Gaal made a mistake with De Jong. It cost him. Probably also with Martins Indi who wasn't 100% and was booked.

I don't understand why FIFA schedules the final so close to the second semi-final. Kind of ridiculous, one team is gonna have less rest than the other.

Germany has one additional day of rest, Holland/Argentina had the same opportunity before the semi-finals.

One noteworthy thing during the Finnish broadcast was that Jari Litmanen as a second commentator referred to the Dutch team as 'us' or 'we' a few times.

Germany can lock Messi down even better than we could. And they can combine through the middle.

I absolutely don't see how Argentina is going to win this World Cup but its still football. There is always this 1% chance.

But no, if I were to bet I'd put it on Germany for sure. Probably 2-0 or so.

Shame the Dutch lost, both teams were pretty damn boring though. I hope they beat Brazil, just to put salt on the wound. It would be glorious.

But this WC belongs to ZE GERMANS

2010: Ger vs Eng 4:1, Ger vs Arg 4:0, peaked to early
2014: Ger vs Bra 7:1, Ger vs Arg 7:0, peaked at the right time

It was actually 4-2, AND YOU KNOW IT

I'm not Dutch but I love the country and I've been a supporter of the Dutch football team for a decade and a half now. My football idol was Dennis Bergkamp and I even watched the classic Dutch matchs from the 1970s which made me a fan of Johan Cruyff (1974 Dutch team, now that team deserved to win it all !). I was in tears when Netherlands lost in 2010 and didn't talk to anyone for 2 days (I was very passionate for Football back then, I used to eat, drink and breath Football during those years as I was a semi-pro player myself).

4 years later I feel bad that the Dutch missed yet another opportunity to lift the cup but honestly I don't feel as sad, since I wouldn't have expected them to come this far with this team, they played great today...in fact both team pretty much locked down each other with their defense and it could've gone either ways. At least they trashed Spain earlier in the tournament and got out of the group stages with 9 points and faced tough opponents.

It is not that I do not believe you.

It is that you are bragging about it like a little child.

He's parodying a now banned footyGAF memeber who said that lol. That footygaf member came back with an alt that now seems banned too.

Susan supports 10 teams though, even dual citizenship (probably triple) as he just can't decide on anything. Go ahead and mock.

Same, I was way more gutted 4 years ago. Or that loss against Russia in 2008.
Amazing performance from this team. And we'll always remember that brilliant match against Spain.

Yeah, those were bad times. Not too bothered now, surprisingly. I saw it coming when the game dragged out to penalties. The game could have gone either way and we may have made it to the finals. I think this team was pretty good and I really liked the positive outlook of our new and old players. Looking forward to see the team's Euro Cup composition.

Look at the bright side Dutch- gaf!

We won't have to look at HIS face on tv anymore!

Fuck this guy, his orange tracksuit and that commercial with the god awful song. Cannot believe this makes it on TV still.

The Messi hate is strong in this thread.

Hey guise, why can't Messi run past everyone like Maradona did in a less sophisticated era of football or do well against a team that effectively locks him down with teammates that fail to capitalise on his goal-scoring opportunities.

I'm pretty sure that the Maracanã will root for Germany. That could be decisive against Argentina.

Germany is the favorite team. Messi and Di María will have to overcome this situation.

Helaas. The teams were very even and both didn't create alot of chances. Both Messi and Robben hardly got on the ball. Im sorry to say, but Cillessen absolutely sucked during the shootouts. Badly informed and he just doesn't have the reach and strength to stop any penalty kicks. First penalty kick getting stopped didn't help either.

Not salty at all, it was a good match. Grats Argentina.

I expected Argentina to play attacking football - thus making things entertaining. Instead they'd rather be defensive and boring as fuck and take it to penalties.

Such an injustice them being in the final. You can mark my words right now though that Germany will smash Argentina. If not, I'll take a permaban. I don't give a fuck because Germany will not lose.

Things are getting interesting! Mods?

Unrelated, but I have a quick question. Bear in mind I don't usually follow football.

Diego Costa... What did he do? Remember seeing that pretty funny meme yesterday, but don't quite know the origin behind the whole 'changing allegiances' schtick.

This game was about both teams stopping the other team from reaching their deadly star player, and they both succeeded.

I would advice to just don't even bother with people who know nothing about football. Just ignore them.

What? I mean... wait... what? Ronaldo was injured this tournament. We're talking about the club life of Ronaldo of course. And are you saying Portugal was better then Argentina if we ignore their star players? Brazil... you completely lost me. What are you trying to say? I don't understand anything past the Ronaldo part of this post. Could you rephrase is or explain it to me?

FUCK YEAH!!! SUCK IT UP HATERS!

All of Argentina is drawn towards the statue of a massive penus?
just kidding mate

Not salty at all, it was a good match. Grats Argentina.

I think his confidence was diminished. He knew the coach and team had no faith in him for a possible shootout, because you usually don't get subbed as a GK. The brilliant plan catched up...

Meh, crap game. We weren't able to mount a decent attack and neither were Argentina. We did poorly at the penalty shoot out, so they won.

Oh well, it was a good run while it lasted.

But it was a hollow victory for Argentina, they don't stand a chance against the German machine.

He is a Brazilian player, but he took the Spanish nationality and played for Spain.

He was born in Brazil but took the Spain nationality after Spain won the WC 2010

He got sick of Scolari's bullshit and decided to declare for Spain when the opportunity came, despite being Brazilian and saying himself that he is and feels Brazilian and not Spanish.

He was born in Brazil but took the Spain nationality after Spain won the WC 2010

Or you could say : After Brazil won the confederation cup, beating Spain 3-0 in the finale.
