Damn that was great, this final fight is amazing..
You know this show is actually competently made, the jarring CG aside that many people maybe not gonna like it, although the CG itself actually improved in later episode and they utilize the limited frame rate looks more wisely, other than that the directing and music is also pretty decent..
The story itself is pretty generic but keep you occupied enough with those monster attack, overall I like it a lot more than Captain Earth, better all CG than boring brah...
Will watch the S2 for more Izana's pouting.

Companies are just licensing to everyone willing to pay now rather than going exclusive. They don't care as it makes them more money, and Funi/CR don't care because either Funi is planning on doing a disc or the cost to actually sub an anime is so cheap now.

Sentai goes out of its way to secure the rights to Japanese DVD/BD extras, although that haven't done that in a while.
But if they happen to release a premium set of a series you care about, you'll be suitably impressed. (I still wish the K-On movie disc got the commentary, but what can you do?)

Thanks for understanding guys. I was afraid it would come off a little whiny. The whole point of Crunchyroll is to stream current airing anime. It's not like they have the wealth of stuff that Netflix or Hulu has to sort, license and deal with. Their whole service hinges on the idea that they bring you the shows currently airing. So...
This is silly. Not even close. Analogy sort of falls flat. Your comparing two production companies in your "analogy". I am simply asking why a subscription service is fighting to get current streaming anime when a production publisher locks it to their site.
A better analogy on your part would have been saying Time Warner Cable/Dish not getting HBO/Showtime content because HBO wants you to watch it on their site and not through TWC or Dish. One is a service while the other is an added package.
This is a very small slice of the TV industry. If netflix only focused on movies wouldn't you be pissed if you paid for a service who's sole purpose is to provide movies only to find out they don't offer you to see Gravity or whatever because the publishing house wanted you to watch it on their own crappy site? And also want you to pay more than what you pay your current subscription service just to watch this one thing?
You act like its something I shouldn't be a little irritated by? It's inconvenient. I don't think most people are paying for two subscriptions to watch anime. Funi wants $8 for 1 exclusive show a season. Crunchy wants $7 a month and they get most of the shows.

No, once again that is NOT how it works. There are various reasons why something might be on FUNi and CR, but it's not the norm. The business is still very much about exclusive contracts, CR makes stuff play out different these days because they have a better streaming platform so Sentai is happy to tag along with it to get visibility. FUNi cares less about that because they have a bigger business and brand to care for.
You mean like how Sentai went out of their way to secure the TV-only version of Gatchaman Crowds? Oooooooooooh.

I mean, on the white TV side, you have people complaining about having to sub to Netflix and Hulu in order to watch everything. I can at least sympathize with being annoyed, since unless Funi has something to do with production, there's no actual reason why a show has to be theirs exclusively other than an exclusivity deal.

The Funi guys were on ANNCast when Attack on Titan was on and they talked about why the show was everywhere. The Funi guys made it sound like it was Japan's decision more than anything they would have chosen to do - because obviously they would rather you pay for a Funi sub than a CR sub.
Sentai's recent releases have been crappy. OVAs as separate discs is something special.

From your perspective it may seem that way. But that's just not how the anime business works. If you think that non-production companies who license shows before they even air have no impact on what things get made and how anime is budgeted, you're in for a surprise. FUNi picking up a show is significantly more important to the Japanese production committee than CR streaming a show. In the end, I'm sure most consumers don't care and don't know, which is fine, but if you want to have perspective, there it is.
There are things FUNi probably can't talk publicly about with regards to AoT, which I have heard about from people working in FUNi. Lol.

Yeah, I described it as the Liara (and hell, the Star Trek: TNG) problem. It probably would have been solved fairly easily by simply having a man play that part (in both dubs), but that's probably too edgy for a relatively safe anime. lol
The director's cut of the final episode exists as an extra in the BD-box of Gatchaman Crowds, so it may have needed to be licensed separately. Sentai didn't care enough to pick it up.
Neat! Laying it all out like that does make it look like a calculated opening. I hope that the possible symbology in this OP reflects an actually well written story. =(
It's on the backlog. I'll watch it some day. Not a priority right now.

Well, the guys that come on ANNCast are really coy assholes, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to that story. But like the whole Funico debacle, they seemed happy to blame Japan for that one. lol

At the same time I am still a paying consumer in a niche market. So it is still a little irritating that Funi thinks that they can charge me more than Crunchy for less content. As I was just informed (they say this on the Funi site) that the show will open up to non-subscribers in a week. Which is a shame but I am a patient person. If I like it I will buy the Blu-Ray so I can see it in HD.

I agree that it's frustrating, but I think the most frustrating thing is not so much that FUNi has a different subscription than CR, but that FUNi has a piece of shit site, and their streams are of inferior quality. The typesetting is worse, they're hardsubbed, and while the bitrate seems extremely high, the quality rarely benefits from it and tends to look worse.
As you said though, this is a niche market, so in the end I think paying consumers are expected to pay more than the norm for stuff in general. Whether it's fair not or is debatable, but being a fan of a niche usually means being part of a smaller group of people paying more to keep something going.

There's a holdback period for certain titles. There's no foolproof way to predict it, but most titles whose international home media rights are owned by TBS end up getting Blu-Rays months after their DVD releases. So there's at least that!

Yuyushiki comes to mind. There's also the upcoming release of Chuunibyou. As well, Sasami-san and Tamako Market will be getting Blu-Rays in the future.

Well, in their defense, I don't think they have any clue what they're doing with the Yamato 2199 releases. I'd love to own it, but not at $45 per BD lolololololololololol. And Aniplex, they're no greedier than usual, which is extremely.
No upgrade programs for those as far as I know.
I generally don't get DVDs of content that was produced in HD. If you do though, it's always best to wait a bit when it comes to Sentai titles. Otherwise you could get burned!

Hopefully I can finish up Hyouka, G Gundam and any remaining watch bets I have over this next week. I was informed yesterday that I was hired and start soon. So soon my time won't be taken up by anime and video games. Yay for moving up in the world.
I wouldn't mind if they did it for SoreMachi...
It's well worth the price, but I don't mind paying the money for something I like.

The only DVDs I buy are of Rightstuf releases, since the chances of BD releases of this titles are slim.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did! Even something like Taishou Baseball Girls got a re-release on BD. Sentai's strategy seems to be "take whatever we can, and toss it out there", so there's no telling what they'll throw in next.
Yeah, that still frustrates me. During their Q&A at AX they mentioned that they're looking into doing BD for certain titles, so that's nice at least. Maybe in a year or so they'll finally have released a title on BD (please be Utena).

I'm paying $50-$60 per Monogatari S2 and $60 per Kill la Kill.
I understand not everyone has the same financial situation though. I treat it like buying new videogames (something I buy a lot less of recently). Love just owning the physical copies too.
I only pay full price for the shows I really really like though. Everything else, minus AOA stuff, I wait for sales.
