DRIVECLUB The Drenched Forests of Canada

Okay so this is just console warring then.

Yeah for the most part.
Forza has always been the flashship racer for Xbox so a comparison is only natural. Thats why we always compare Forza to GT.

However, the look and gameplay of Forza has changed so much that the comparison no longer makes any sense.

I've got no problem with comparing any game to any other. But I can't think of a Forza or Driveclub thread that hasn't just dissolved into comparing two unreleased games from gifs of youtube and facebook videos.

I admit I love FH1 it's one of my fav games last generation, and I have to admit FH2 gets points for being truly open world, but it also looses a lot more points because it does one of the dumbest things I've seen recently in a game. Why in the hell would supercars race on dirt, let alone cornfields, or among a bunch of grapes? It completely destroys the immersion for me. FH1 was a very good mix of arcade and sim, and its world was open enough for me.

IMO FH2 being truly "open" world is just a sadly funny, ridiculous waste of recourses.

Ohh, and Driveclub simply looks a generation ahead. Period.

Are there any gifs/vids with the HUD/Points turned off so i can post this on Facebook and pretend i went racing?

I want to see how many people would be fooled

I'm almost as excited for this as I am for Driveclub, if I get a Bone at some point this will likely be my first game. So much racing goodness coming up.

This GIF is your best bet. I tried it with my sister yesterday and it worked. Used the old, look at these crazy Russians racing in the rain descriptor (e.g. the kind you get on YouTube all the time) lol.

Be cool if we had a whole video version of the above GIF though.

It's more open than horizon 1, it's more a open world racer than a circuit racer.

GIFs tell nothing, watch some videos.

From the videos I think Driveclub looks even more superior than the diference from the gifs.

It´s like Dribeclub looks like real life while FH2 looks like a beautiful cartoon.

Well I'm glad you aren't in charge. I don't see how adding a feature that many people wanted is now a bad thing. I guess you simply can't satisfy everyone

While this DC clip does look more real. I think it has more to do with the weather and dull color palate that's laid over the scene. I've seen footage of DC in sunny environments and the colors tends to look very "videogamish". Its basically sunny vs overcast that's making the differnce.

All I have to say is that the weather DC gifs make the game look more real than the plain sunny weather gifs. I can't figure out why though. I'm guessing it just is the whole environmental immersive experience

Why are we comparing two games that don't even need comparing. It's madness.

Please go away with this nonsense. People compare whether its video games or the taste of grapes from two different orchards. Its a gaming forum. We have been doing this since forever now all of a sudden two racing games should not be compared? Even if the games aren't out we will compare. On road, open road it doesn't matter.
I knew the excuses and the hyperbole concerns would hit the thread sooner or later.

I'm not talking about this only clip, it's about all the videos i have seen from the games.

Even when driveclub is colorful it still looks realistic. In every condition DC looks like real life. I guess it´s a combination of great art with the amazing realtime lightning engine they are using.

Daytime footage still looks incredibly realistic.

Lol at calling DC's visuals "videogamish". I've never seen a game that has such realistic daytime lighting. The way the lighting affects the look of the trees in this gif is so realistic -

Even the shaded area as he comes out of the turn looks realistic.

It looks nice, but I clearly recognize its a videogame. There was a certain reaction I got when I first saw the rain DC clips that jumped out at you. You know something is visually realistic when you see. That's why I contributed the look to the whether and overcast color.

Im trying to understand this gif.
Is it saying Forza is superior because you can drive through corn fields and do Need for Speed shortcuts?

There's no understanding stupid comparisons.

I suppose that is somewhat true, though there are (by the looks of things) plenty of sections in FH2 that also seem to be closed off and more point to point.

P.S, my response to that GIF from the other thread. With a few tweaks I think Playground could improve the visual feedback several fold. Not sure how much leeway they have in terms of hardware resources and optimisations mind. I know the things I'm requesting below might be quite taxing.

I agree with some of your issues with the Horizon 2 footage. I think it being early is probably the reason for a lot of those issues though and the suspension issue is mainly because it's an arcade racer. Same with the rain not rolling/streaking on the hood, or at least that's my hope.

Would be pretty ridiculous if it's missing when it was in PGR4 over 7 years ago.

And this gif again perfectly illustrates why those two games shouldn't be compared.

Besides being games that features cars that are racing, their focus and corresponding tools to achieve such focus are drastically different.

If anyone wants to draw comparisons, Forza Horizon 2 can only be compared with The Crew.

In the same time DriveClub *could* currently only be compared to pCARS due to its closed circuit nature, but it is not a fair comparison since pCARS is going for 60fps, more complex driving model and more cars on track and it will never look that good.

However, I order of fuel the stupid, unnecessary and deeply tiresome console-wars, both can be compared to hell and back, however, their focus is vastly different.

Like comparison between COD and Arma for instance.

Yup. The comparison gifs are just silly and they will probably get worse as we get closer to release...

People need to realize that horizon 2 runs at 30fps, stop saying it runs at 60. Lets be honest, If FH2 were 60fps the jaggies would be just as gross as F5's lack of decent AA to hit 60. DriveClub looks stupid good. The arcady menus just don't fit in well with the insane realism of the graphics lol .

Even the glare as the sunlight moves across the windshield!! Which button sprays the windshield wiper fluid?

Very interesting.

I actually thought that for example the circuit used in last year's Gamescom demo was what they meant by race tracks, but I guess they are actually going to have dedicated (imaginary) race tracks.

I'm not sure we need clutch support in something that errs on the side of arcade over sim. I'd prefer it if it wasn't there, personally.
I'm not sure I would have played in full manual mode if it were available, but I own a T500RS+TH8RS combo, and am looking to make more use of the shifter (used in its full H-mode glory, not in its sequential mode).
I've tried using it in GT6, but the way this game handles pedal clutch just makes it an uncompetitive option.
Well, let hope Project Cars will make good use of it.

And options are nice, my friend.

Great news. Some of my favourite tracks in past Forza games were the fictional ones; it just allows the devs to be more creative. Hopefully they create some that will be regarded as classics in the future.

This is fantastic news. I love fictional tracks, gives them a lot of leeway to create some incredible tracks.

I want to see the Nurburgring with these graphics.

Have they said anything about if this track will be in the game?

Yeah they have one such race track per country. Don't even know what modern structures and grand stands would look like in the game. Can't wait!

All of them are fictional. Also Nürburgring is in Germany, right?

Man, Forza fans are really grasping at the open world bullet point. It's not like you're given a city and you can use whatever path you want to get to the finish. From what we've seen, most of the race takes place on a linear track just like any other game. There's predefined shortcut paths like in tons of other games. There's that open field section at the beginning but you're still trying to funnel into the same road. I think 'open world' is stretching it a bit. That's not a knock on the gameplay -- true open world doesn't really make a racing game that interesting (you want to be close to those you're racing against). It's just odd that people are like "you can't compare these games because forza has a field in it."

Ah, I completely missed that all of the tracks are fictional.

Still, doesn't mean they can't bring in the ring as a bonus track or some DLC. It doesn't necessarily need to be tied to a country...

I don't think it has real tracks. Plus Germany isn't one of the locations in the game, which would exclude the Ring.

That doesn't mean they can't have the ring. Just include it as a bonus track or as DLC. I get that it doesn't fit with the locations of the game, but that doesn't mean they can't find a way to include it.

Agreed. DLC is possible. Just saying their current plan is to have one in each of the 5 countries.

Since the "reintroduction" I've seen separate phrasing of road circuits and race circuits. I actually had my fingers crossed they would use a real race circuit from the country but imaginary ones should be good.

It's really turning into a content rich title.

Building fictional tracks is less work -- you don't have to spend time worrying about how close it is to the real thing. Fictional tracks are also ideal for an arcade racer because you can optimize the tracks specifically for the game's particular car handling personality. It's fun to race on real tracks in a sim but for a game like Driveclub I want to have that handcrafted fantasy driving experience where everything is built with that one vision in mind.

Yeah. It really debunks the theory that the track variations are just 5 unique tracks, 5 reverse and 1 that connects all of them in a sequence. There will be reverse tracks, but it also seems like there might be tracks with different corners.

I guess it's possible, although it'd be odd if the Ring were the only real track in the entire game. And like tranciful mentioned, building a fictional track allows more freedom and less criticism. People know what to real tracks are supposed to look like, so you then have to focus on making sure every little detail is correct. And that's a lot of work for a track that's as big as the Ring. They're probably be better off making their own version of that track. One that's based on it so that they're still given freedom in terms of actually designing a track that they want.

Thanks for sharing these. Can we please stop comparing DRIVECLUB to, well, any and all racing games? There are threads for that and this thread is going to end up being closed down.

I am so excited for DRIVECLUB, I am in the party that I am a bit disappointed that weather isn't there Day 1, but I am looking at it like, after I play the game some, get into some GAF club racing, then BOOM, here comes the weather and it's almost like we get all new tracks in a sense.

The affects of the weather on handling, the asthetics of how the tracks almost look completely different in the rain. It will be a fun update. Regardless of me being disappointed of weather coming later, i am still getting this Day 1 and cannot wait to race with, and against, you all.
