Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

Nintendo really needs to make a FE fighting game with arc sys. >_>

If we're talking weapon-based 2D fighter, give it to SNK.

EDIT: Of course now that I think about it, you probably want Xrd style 'cause everyone wants everything Xrd style right now.

fucking hell hahaha

You're assuming that the leaker shared what he found as soon as he found it, and thus inferring from this that if he spoke around E3, he must've learned what he did at E3. But it's entirely possible he learned everything well before E3, back when the roster started coming together in 2012 (or whenever), and simply didn't speak until shortly before E3 2013.

Then how did he know which characters they would reveal at E3? That is the part that speaks to the timing. The entire premise of the leak was that the leaker knew Nintendo's near future plans. It was specifically a leak as to Nintendo's E3 showing.

Is it really hard to imagine that at some point in 2012, staff said, "Let's show these ones first," and they chose six, and the leaker was privy to this, and then E3 rolled around and Sakurai decided, "No, let's only show half of what we originally plan, and spread the rest out?"

That's what I'm saying. And again, the statistical probability of knowing Wii Fit Trainer without the right level of access...

In regards to the leaker saying Shulk would be shown today: I think that's easily explained by him knowing (or thinking he knows) the characters, but not necessarily when or where they'll be shown.

So let's say he's legit. He knows Shulk is in, and when he sees Monolith Soft retweet, he assumes that this time (like previous occasions with X trailers) it will be Xenoblade-related. It's a bad assumption for him to make, of course, but it doesn't preclude the possibility he had some level of access at some other point in time.
If Sal (or his supposed source, doesn't matter) was a legit leaker, there would have been no reason to make that assumption and put their cards on it. It was a failed attempt at getting credibility, something that a Real Leaker has no need for, but a Fake Leaker lives and dies on. Sal Romano is a fake and a sham.

I strongly suspect that what happened was that he ran across some legitimate information around E3, resulting in the first list (which, notably, he never even came out with it as a "leak" until it was effectively confirmed). After that he rode the coattails of his real info by making up fake stuff - every character he has listed since the original list, with the exception of the Chorus Kids, has been an obvious choice, which was deliberate so that he could seem legit for as long as possible.

Chrom's deconfirmed, and deconfirmed hard. Sal's second list is fake, and nothing short of the confirmation of the Chorus Kids will convince me otherwise.

And I'd bet that if we get a Rhythm Heaven rep it will be a monkey.

No, I'm more inclined to believe the leaker is right, and knows Shulk is in, and just doesn't know when he will be shown. And he then made the mistake of assuming today was the day, based on other factors like the retweet by Monolith Soft.

Should he have done that? No. But it's not exactly a farfetched idea that if someone knew Shulk was in the game, and saw enough context to suggest he'd be shown today, he'd go ahead and say so, because he knows he's in the game.

Just for the video they were trying to match FE:Awakening's cinematics

Robin's Final Smash should have been a Marriage Proposal

I think Chrom being in the final smash was appropriate. They force down that bromance pretty hardcore in the game for a male Robin.

Why would a real leaker do that, though? If someone knew for a fact that they were right, why would they pull a stunt like that at all? Why would they suddenly mix in information that they didn't know, at the risk of a significant portion of their credibility?

Either the leak is fake or the leaker is a dumbass.

The shear number of characters revealed by the Gematsu Leak makes it more likely than not that its based of real, if outdated or distorted through a massive game of telephone, info. However, the claims that nobody could have guessed these characters is a bit overblown.

Let's break them down:

Mega Man: Sonic and Mega Man were the two most requested third party characters after Snake's reveal. Sakurai even commented on why Mega Man was not included in Brawl in interviews.

Villager: "Animal Crosser" was highly speculated back during the Brawl version of SmashGAF.

Wii Fit Trainer: Legit surprise. I'll give him this one.

Little Mac: Highly requested character who had a franchise revival and had deep historical ties to first party Nintendo.

Mii: Heavily speculated for Brawl. The specific "Mii Fighter" name, however, is a legit difficult guess.

Pac-Man: On a majority of prediction lists after Namco was revealed as co-developer

Palutena: On a ton of speculation lists.

X/Y Rep: Newest Pokemon game always gets a rep. Did not specifically call Greninja.

Chrom: Newest Fire Emblem always gets a rep. First true miss.

Shulk: Unconfirmed, but heavily speculated prior to leak.

Chorus Kids: Unconfirmed, but would be a legit left-field win if confirmed.

Again, not calling the leak a fake. Its clear after today that its flawed, but it got too much right to be fake. What I'm calling out here are the people who say "nobody could have called Mega Man or the Miis" when I have seen these characters called and in many cases also called for Brawl. The only "Nobody called" characters from the leak are Wii Fit trainer and, if they turn out to be true, the Chorus Kids.

Isn't it too early to say what's a "clone" and what's not? Especially now with the alternative movesets who knows what happens. It's completely possible that even if Chrom and Lucina share the same movepool the default setup will differ making them very much unique characters.

Then the leaker is a dumbass. That's my theory. I think he made the wrong assumption about the reveal for a character he knows is in the game.

Like ShockingAlberto says, though, there is the possibility the line of communication is being muddied by multiple people on the same email account, among other possibilities. We can't vet Sal's source ourselves.

What we can do is look at how things have panned out and make an educated guess. So far, all things considered, the leaks have gotten more right than wrong. Only one character has failed to pan out so far. Of the two that remain, we've already seen hints for the Chorus Men (a character no one guessed) in the form of a Smash Run enemy from Rhythm Heaven.

We'll just have to wait and see. The encouraging thing is that anything seems possible now, even if some things (Shulk, Chorus Men) are more expected than others.

The Gematsu leaks aren't "fake." The leaker's obviously misinformed and/or has outdated information, but Wii Fit Trainer and Mii Fighter aren't just lucky guesses. He obviously knows something. Lots of large scale leaks tend to get one or two details wrong (just look at Pokémon), but that doesn't automatically discredit the information.

I can't wait for the Chorus Kids to be confirmed to put an end to this.

This is what I'm inclined to think.

Yes, that scenario is preposterous.

You are saying that sometime in early/mid 2012, they were simultaneously planning out what characters to reveal at an E3 a year or more away while the game's character list was still in heavy flux. That is a pretty damn big contradiction.

Look, no one is doubting that the first leak was based on some genuine, accurate information. What we question is whether the rest of the leaks are actually based on anything accurate. There are all sorts of possibilities as to how the leaker found about Wii Fit Trainer, but they don't require the leaker actually being an employee of Nintendo or Bandai Namco who was actually involved in the game's development. One possible scenario would be someone from a third party company who was contracted to make some of the character reveal cinematics. Another possibility would be someone from E3 staff or some sort of advertising agency who was involved in Nintendo's E3 preparations. In those cases, the leaker could have theoretically gained inside knowledge on Nintendo's E3 plans and the roster reveals, but not have access to anything outside of that.

I'm very glad that we are getting Robin and Lucina over Chrom. Today have been amazing day for Smash.

Rayman's trophy, Lucina, Cap Falcon, Robin and Chrom being disconfirmed.

Yeah, I would like to see Chorus Kid/Men and Shulk to get confirmed, along with few unannounced newcomers if it's possible but I'm going to tempered my expectation tho.

I think it's entirely possible that the roster could've been finalized except for some dedicated slots that were yet to be determined (Pokémon, maybe Fire Emblem), and from among those they started thinking about what to show when, yes. I anticipate many of the reveals and even Miiverse updates are planned well in advance.

Regardless, for every reason for doubt, there are as many possibilities for the leaker to have inside access, or know someone who does, and have gotten information that was at one point correct or can be explained by numerous other scenarios.

What we're left with is that he has only gotten one thing wrong, and he has gotten so much more right. And that one thing he got wrong isn't devoid of many possible explanations.

Lucina being similar to Marth is on purpose. Since Lucina's whole role in Fire Emblem Awakening is "Hey, I just came through this magic portal, I'm Marth and I time-traveled to save teh futurez!"

And then a few chapters later "Wait... you're a girl? You lied you Marth-wannabe!"

Lucina dressing/acting like Marth is canon.

I'm very glad that we are getting Robin and Lucina over Chrom. Today have been amazing day for Smash.

Rayman's trophy, Lucina, Cap Falcon, Robin and Chrom being disconfirmed.

I'm trying to catch up, but has Chrom been specifically been "disconfirmed"? The trailer says not moments later "No, you'll get (your chance) today", and you hear the announcer yell "Chrom!" like he does for other characters, like he DOESN'T do for Assist Trophies.

So as far as I can tell, Chrom is a playable character, even if he's just a skin swap or something.

He's a Final Smash. You can see Robin glowing and double-teaming Captain Falcon with Chrom in the air. It's a reference to the Pair Up mechanic from Fire Emblem Awakening, where two characters attack a target together. In this case, Robin yells out "Chrom" and Chrom jumps in to help Robin attack a target.

Nah, he's clearly just a part of Robin's final smash.

That was Robin calling for Chrom for the Final Smash.

Did you see that subtitle said you got your chance now when you see chrome teaming up with Robin in Final Smash. They basically confirmed Chrom as Robin's partner in Final Smash.

Awwwww yuss, Captain Falcon!
I have yet to play Awakening, but I guess once I do I'm properly hyped for the FE characters as well.
