Thor is now the goddess of Thunder

She gonna be Wonder Woman? We gonna Amalgam time?

my heart already belongs to Warrior Woman.

what? 40 fucking years ago? Think they could give it another shot? Valkyrie was created in 1970? We already got too many magical warrior sword wielding shield wives than we know what to do with? Why did didn't they just admit that weakness.

They already did what that poster said, that you agreed to all of. Now I'm just repeating myself. Are you seriously asking why they didn't announce a weakness, too?

I've always thought the gender-swapped wannabe characters are dumb. I swear, every character has to have a counterpart of the opposite gender. It's lazy and stupid.

It's amazing that Thor's lasted this long, considering how many times he's been temporarily replaced.

It's cute that they try to emphasize that this isn't another wannabe, though. So...what's Thor's name, now? It's not a rank or title, that's his given birth name. It's like someone else claiming to be Leon Dexter because my parents disowned me. Silly.

All that said, I've always had a soft spot for She-Hulk.

Oh, and now calling Thor "Goldilocks" won't be as funny. :(

I'm wondering how sales will/will not suffer over this change. Comics are largely male dominated/sold to males. While this is an attempt to get "female readers" on board, I'm not sure this is the right way to go.

Hypothesis: It's that way because they sold comics that interested mostly dudes?

The assumption that the market does not exist because your efforts to sell to the market are weak at best is erroneous.

I point you to other trends like MOBAs and movie adaptations of young adult novels, etc as examples of markets that laid untapped because no one ever tried to cater to them. Big ass money-making markets.

Address weaknesses, over come them. Don't hide behind them. And hey yeah, technically they did try all of those things, and my point that you continually seem to be willfully ignoring, because oh yeah they actually did create new female fighters back in 1964 and 1970, but maybe they can try again in a newer context? There's no argument here except what you want to make.

Boobplate armor, I see.

I think it would be more interesting to really make her Thor (using the mythology, so the daughter of Odin and an Earth goddess, with natural Thor powers). If it's someone else using the hammer, it's hard to think of as "the one and only Thor."

Are they calling her Thora? Seeing as English has an established female counterpart to the name Thor I would think it would make sense.

That would require a reboot, on the level of Flashpoint if not more. It's less of a headache and much easier to just have someone else assume the mantle.

Nope, Thor, which is pretty ridiculous. If they wanted to temporarily replace one of the big three with a woman it should have been Captain America as the name is much more gender neutral.

Beta Ray Bill only wielded Mjolnir for a very short time (like 5 mins), he has his own unique hammer with the same powers of Mjolnir called Stormbreaker.

Yeah but he beat Thor's ass in the process, so I wholeheartedly concur he is best Thor. Also, he got his own hammer because Odin felt he deserved it and had it forged for him. I still think that whole storyline would tie the cinematic universe together so well. It starts as a SHIELD mission and ends with Bill becoming a main character in cosmic marvel. Probably be too confusing for Joe Moviegoer though with two Thor's.

Wait is Thor like a title given to whomever wields Mjolnir?

I am confuse

It is both. Thor is Thor Odinson, but his name is also a title and function (God of Thunder). The extra powers that Mjolnir bestows can be bestowed to anyone who is deemed worthy of the title and power of Thor.

Just imagine that a decent amount of Thors abilities and powers are tied to the Hammer, because Odin was a dick who wanted to keep Thor in check and teach him of humility.

Without the hammer, Thor is still a very strong god, he just does not have all of his powers and abilities and someone else has the title of Thor and function (god of thunder).

So:

Wolverine
has lost his healing factor, and is scheduled to die in September.

Captain America
has lost the super soldier serum, aged 70 years in an instant, and is handing his shield to a new, black Captain America who is speculated to be Falcon

Thor is now unworthy of his hammer and has handed it off to a new female Thor who many speculate to be Angela.

I wonder what Marvel is planning, shelving so many key characters right now.

Time for Power Pack to shine.

Thor Odinson is a goddude.

He's pretty tough and strong. But a part of his powers, like flight and weather control, come from his hammer Mjolnir. Which Thor has to be worthy to wield.

At the same time, whoever wields Mjolnir receives the power and mantle of Thor. This confers upon them the flight and weather control, plus the added strength and toughness of Thor Odinson.

Captain America wielded the hammer for a short period of time and gave it back. Beta Ray Bill had Mjolnir for a hot second, but was quickly given his own hammer, Strombreaker.

Two wielders, Eric Masterson and future dude Dargo Ktor, point to the name being a part of the mantle.

Masterson:

A post-Thor Masterson, Dargo, and Beta Ray Bill even teamed up with Thor briefly.

Now just having the hammer gives you the powers. And you don't have to call yourself Thor. Thor's children from various timelines and shit - Magni, Torunn, and Thena (google yourself) - all have held the Hammer without taking their father's name. But the wielder is Thor. It's a title that started with one dude.

You keep iterating on the point each time its requirements are satisfied, it becomes impossible to address.

There is only one way this works out to my satisfaction: Thor is Thor's future daughter. Whom Roz decided to name Thor.

Explains why we never actually see Thor's child. She went back in time.

Yup. That works.

Wolverine lost his healing factor back then too, and the situation was also different.

Different writer, different interpretation.

One of my favorite things about Comics actually.

When did Wolverine lose his healing factor? I remember it greatly diminishing after Fatal Attractions but he never lost it.

Anyway, they're completely different circumstances. Wolverine
losing his healing factor and then getting killed
doesn't directly contradict a past story like Cap's does.

Would you call Spider-Man if anything more powerful than DR. Octopus showed up? You couldn't credibly have him lead the Avengers

I'd call Spidey over Cap for anything from a stopped toilet to Galactus showing up with his tummy grumbling. Spidey's a powerhouse when he's not whining about something. He thrashed Titania and Firelord.

Also, leading the Avengers can't be that tough; everyone and his brother has done it. Well, except Spidey, ha ha.
