Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Since Sakurai said Winter 2014, I'm thinking December release for Japan and Janurary/Feburary release for NA and EU.

I still can't believe Smash isn't getting a worldwide release, especially after X/Y last year.

Reggie and the E3 direct said Holiday 2014 for Wii U. It won't slip to 2015 unless something weird happens.

Masked Man, member of the day :D thanks haha

I'm honored. :3

I'm really hoping that just means in terms of attacks and not speed or attack effectiveness

The screenshot said that he's "got a speedy dash and very strong attacks, but his moves tend to leave him wide open to counterattacks". I would assume that minor adjustments will be made for this iteration of Smash, but I don't think that they will be making any drastic changes.

Not sure that "makes a mistake" interpretation is correct, since if simply missing an attack instantly recharged your tomes, it wouldn't be much of a balance.
It means "gets KO'd". Duh.

User33 had the answer. Good to see someone else is better-versed in the lingo than me. I amended my initial translation. Thanks! ;)

It's unconfirmed,, but this site says apparently Sakurai himself commented on the lack of Chrom in Famitsu.

Masked Man, can you verify this?

I don't have the issue on hand right now (of all the times to be in the US...!), so I can't check, but if someone else can find a full scan of the article, I would be happy to help out!

Yeah, Kirby with Mask is so adorable. Yeah, it's way better than Metaknight's Mask. >:D
I want unmasked Metaknight as an alt:

Was it Japan that bitched on Ike's new design?

And they bitched about Little Mac too.

...

I think Japan doesn't like muscular man.

Oh they do, but only huge burly hairy ones. Just "fit dude" that falls in between Boss Doggie's favorite body type and girly bishonen is not all that popular though!

Art style of the CG from the Robin/Lucina trailer is so damn good. I'm not sure if it'd fit the entire cast but a Smash game with that look would be incredible. If not, some crazy Fire Emblem fighter with guests (Link fits perfectly).
For real. If they ever make a Nintendo vs Capcom-esque fighter, they need to have that graphics style.

By the way, does anyone know if you can get other's Miis to your Wii U? I know you can get 3DS Miis through QR codes, but since the Gamepad doesn't have a camera, I don't know.

Meta Knight is nerfed like Archeops in Pokemon...

Once he takes enough damage, his mask falls off and he becomes much much weaker.

Top five newcomers:

1) Megaman
2) Rosalina
----

IT"S SO HARD I LOVE THEM ALL
Except Mii Fighters sorry =(

The last three are between Palutena, Pac-Man, and as much as I love Villager and Little Mac for who they are, the final might just be Robin because of how different their moveset is.

Well you can transfer mii's from 3DS to Wii U. Im pretty sure you can also get miis on wii u one way or another.

So how would you guys rank the top 5 newcomers you're most excited to try out? For me it's probably:

1) Little Mac
2) Rosalina & Luma
3) Pac-Man
4) Robin
5) Mega Man

1) Palutena: She was my most wanted character, and she was above my expectations. She had so many moves to pool from, and Sakurai was not short on creativity. I can't wait to try her out.
2) Greninja: I was a little annoyed when he was announced, but after seeing him at E3, hes probably going to be my main in the new game.
3) Little Mac: Everything about him looked amazing, and I was so excited when he was announced. If Greninja falls short, I think Little Mac will be a welcomed main.
4) Pacman: While I didnt want him, Sakurai made him look fun and original. Cant wait to see more
5) Miis were the biggest joke before they were revealed, but they have so much customization potential, that I'm sure they will be a blast to play!

Nah, I bet we get Wii U version before Black Friday here (even if it's a broken mess that needs a day one patch) and Japan gets it a week or two later. BF's no big deal there, holiday shopping is.

WTF!?

Nintendo would stop being nintendo if that happened. Nintendo normally releases games that dont need patches (i know that there was exceptions like skyward sword for example, where it was possible to put yourself in a situation were you wouldnt be able to advance in the game. Still, it was just a particular problem). Dont get me wrong, theres allways lots of glitches to be found in nintendo games, but it doesnt make any sense to even consider the possibily of nintendo releasing a "broken mess". Their games never are. They are not going to forget about their "nintendo quality". Also, they know that part of their users dont even have the console connectec to the internet (!! :O but its true), so they are not going to release a game that needs a patch/es. Still, people are going to find glitches in smash bros games over time, lots of them probably (like allways).

Like you can see i dont have experience with games that need "day one patches" because i have not lived that "generation" at all (i mean that i havent bought any game with those problems). I am used to games that you can play (beat) without having problem with glitches. I wouldnt accept something that is not a "polished" game.

I am serious. I dont want to know nothing about games that run like Donkey kong 64 ever again!! (i was a poor kid that didnt deserve that). :P the nintendo 64...

I have no idea how much I wanted this until now.
We talked about it for a bit in the last thread, but it would be so epic. The guy behind MvC3 mentioned it being a project he'd want to work on once, so as unlikely as it is, I always have a little hope for it every time a Nintendo Direct or E3 comes around.

Yes, Kotaku did find a few posters on a webform that bitched about something in a video game and then used that to make a generalization about an entire country's taste.

Seriously, what they did was like coming to this thread and picking out only the negative comments, then saying

"NEOGAF HATES ROSALINDA"

From a pure "fun" standpoint, I'd rank Mii Fighters rather high. All three variants look really satisfying to use. The gunner has crazy range, the brawler can pivot in the air with drop-kicks, and the swordfighter's projectiles look suitably ninja-like. :-)

And I actually like their designs, something I didn't think I'd say about Miis. They put some serious work into the bodies and the customizable outfits. Along with the general HD polish, they look great. :-)

Rosalina, Palutena and Lucina are some of my favourite Nintendo characters from the last few years, so I'm quite enthusiastic about trying them.

Though to be honest,I'm excited for pretty much all the newcomers.

To be fair, if bishonen type characters weren't popular in Japan, we wouldn't see so many of them in basically any media of Japanese origin.

Palutena was my most-wanted character, and I love her look, but until I know her vanilla moveset, I'm going to say my Top Three are 1) Robin, 2) Greninja and 3) Little Mac. Runner-up: Pac-Man.

I have extraordinary amounts of love for Lucina
and her boots
, but I've never been a Marth player, so I think I'll buy her Amiibo and oogle her as my sidekick.

Pac-Man and Mega Man top the list, if for no other reason because I'm that enthused to finally play these guys in a way that does their games of origin proud, as opposed to say, SFxT. :lol

But I'm really interested in giving at least all of the newcomers a fair shake.

The Japanese Little Mac complainers are pretty much a minority of salty people that thinks only characters they wish for should be in. It's the eastern equivalent of people getting mad at too many "blue haired anime swordsmen" from a game they didn't play.

Top 5 newcomers we're looking forward to playing, huh? At this point, for me it's:

1. Mega Man (obviously, haha)
2. Palutena
3. Rosalina & Luma
4. Pac-Man
5. Wii Fit Trainer

Even though I already played Mega Man and Rosalina at E3, I NEED MORE, and I didn't have a chance to try Wii Fit Trainer! Also, if Marshal and Shulk are confirmed, the former will jump right to #2 with the latter probably around #4 or so, bumping off Pac-Man and Wii Fit Trainer.

If Sakurai cuts the Ice Climbers, one of the most unique character, while adding Lucina and Toon Link, there could be riots in the streets. Not happening.

Dark Pit is a definite possibility though, unless he's a boss. Also I still think we're getting more than 48 characters.

BTW did Salromano say anything about the Shulk thing? I remember he tried to contact the leaker.

I hope you're right about the Ice Climbers! And I don't think Sal has said anything about Shulk since Monday, but I'm not sure...

I don't think Sakurai is going to add a clone character in the Kid Icarus series and at the same time cut "semiclones" from other series like Lucas or Wolf and what is even worse, removing the Ice Climbers. I definitely have a good feeling about the chances of almost everybody in Brawl returning except for some unique cases like Snake.

You make good points. I hope you're right!

I can sort of see Dark Pit as a possible clone, and Shulk and the Chorus Kids are still fairly likely newcomers, but I'm unsure about those cuts. Ice Climbers have been around since Melee, are well-regarded and possess a unique playstyle, and any issues implementing them on 3DS would be less of a problem than those facing Rosalina & Luma. Wolf was intended to feature in Melee before Brawl, but was, like Wario, delayed to the next game because Sakurai felt a clone would not do him justice - this seems to suggest he's not a likely target for culling. Snake is less of a certainty due to licensing issues, but I don't think he would be a planned cut. Lucas seems to have less going for him, but I don't think a unique character who received a decent amount of focus in the previous game would be on the chopping block if they're going out of their way to create more clones.

All good points, especially about Wolf; I had forgotten he was intended to feature in Melee.

Also, @Ash's roster:

I don't think those characters will be cut at all. Not even Lucas. Snake, probably. And I don't think you mentioned it, but Ivysaur and Squirtle are absent, which I would (unfortunately) agree with.

I think there will be between 50-55 characters, with the only cuts being Snake and Red's other Pokemon.

That seems plausible. I'm not even sure about the cuts myself, it's just a gut feeling. I could totally see everyone but Snake, Ivysaur, and Squirtle making the cut.

I would be happy with this roster, except I would hope he keeps Ice Climbers because they're unique and Wolf because Star Fox needs its villain rep.

Also I hope Pitoo is a skin of Pits and not a standalone character. I also really don't think we'll see Mewtwo again.

So I'd remove those two and re-add Wolf/Ice Climbers and keep the same number you have. That's what I think will end up happening.

If Wolf sticks around, I just hope he's differentiated from Fox and Falco a little more. Totally agree about the Ice Climbers, though.

I could see Dark Pit having a similar but unique enough moveset from Pit to warrant being his own character, but maybe not. I'm not married to the idea either way, it just seems quite possible to me after that tease at the end of Palutena's trailer.

I guess there's so many weapons to use from Uprising, they were never going to cover them all with just Pit. Pitoo would be okay. And I doubt he'd be a clone.

I'd be okay with him not being a clone, too!
