Hmmm. I think my problem with the AI in Destiny is from the lack of AI grenades. In Halo you'd have elite's chucking grenades to break up their regular paterns, they'd also jump out of the way of grenades, and grunts would go suicide you. The AI had more options in this case, so it seemed more intelligent. It's probably the cause of my distaste for the AI.

No confirmation, there have been mentions of places like Chicago as well as others in concept art and the like, but take that with a grain of salt. Either way, the Old Russia map we have is severely cut off, even with everything we have. There are about 4 known areas that we can't access, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were somehow more as well in just the one map.

There are plenty of other areas though. We have seen the smallest of images of Mercury in-game, from a flying ship perspective. Then there is Venus, the Moon, Mars, possibly Titan, and any number of other things. The Ghost itself mentioned in dialogue the word 'moons' for travel, so there are plenty of possibilities. Then the expansions will surely have more. I have also seen some things pertaining to Saturn, and all the other maps will probably be about the same size of Old Russia as well, which is quite big itself.

Hmm okay. This makes me feel a little better. I was thinking that was it, and as far as planets goes, I was thinking it was just Earth, Venus, Mars and the moon

this game doesn't seem all that competitive. will it be able to play at a high level? i keep hearing no. i won't be in the beta till the x1, but man i've been watching vids, reading impressions, and there seems to be no real competitive edge.

greatly disappointing to me since i know one of the guys is from the ShadowRun development team, i'd expect he could do more with this = \

They jump out of the way in Destiny , or do some turtle thing to protect themselves..

is there anywhere to see what my reputation is with all the factions? I mean anywhere instead of going up to be vendors themselves. I don't even care if it is online. If the only way to see what my reputation level is to go to each reputation vendor that kind of sucks. I want to know iron banner rep is !

You can see a distortion where a cloaked enemy is standing. It's not impossible to see them.

The Hunter's Bladedancer subclass has optional cloaking in its abilities. It's something they can pull out in certain conditions, like when using their super. And even then, there are other options besides the cloaking to choose from.

Dunno if it'll behave the same way in PvP as it does in PvE. Stealthed enemies in PvE are somewhat visible due to a warping effect.

Hopefully it's not too bad. I mean I haven't played it yet since I'm on X1 but I'm not sure I've ever really seen invisibility or cloaks implemented well.

I could stomach active camo in the early Halo games but when it became an armor ability it quickly became one of the most annoying things in the entire game and that's really what I don't want to see. I was hoping it was something that Bungie would leave in the past. Titanfall also had a similar problem. They implemented the grey silhouettes but it still managed to be a major annoyance. It just promotes crappy gameplay.

If it's something that only appears very sparingly, like when you use a super, then maybe it'll at least be manageable. I just really don't want a situation where there are invisible/cloaked enemies showing up almost constantly. It's something that's begging to be abused if it's not implemented in the right way.

this means different things to different people, that's why.

Not sure I understand what you mean?

No, it is most definitely NOT obvious. I can tell when a Hunter has charged his super. He's glowing and there's a sound as it engages. There's no warning when a Nova Bomb is coming. I've been sniped by those just as often, if not more than the Hunter super.

If you can't put two and two together when a Warlock is intentionally trying to jump over you rather than shooting you, you deserve to get hit with the Nova Bomb. There's no logical reason for any class to try and be placing themselves above you in the wide open air other than prepping a super.

The hunter glows for the same reason the laser sight on the sniper rifle glows. It's a tell. Not every tell is a flashing light, but players behaviors are the biggest tells of all.

Nope. Hope that changes before release.

But the AI does throw grenades at you. Or do you mean they don't throw them often?

Nothing like getting disconnected from the server right before an awesome match ends.

And once out, getting greeted by a warning message for quitting...

:/

The moon is seriously not that bad. Interceptors are tough. They're supposed to be. But they're absolutely manageable if you know what you're doing. Which is why it kinda bugs me that the map's being changed in some way x.x

At the start, get in your Interceptor. Charge into the other one. Interceptor charge destroys interceptors and turrets in one go. Just don't do it to me, thanks =p

That also covers one way of taking them out. Turrets, when on a raised platform/not being charged at are effective against them. Headshots, or really any shot to the driver's body is effective - the interceptor doesn't make them inherently better armored. Grenades and supers, as well as heavy weapons are also effective. Teamwork can help with taking out the interceptor's driver, splitting up around a building you control is effective. And if you take out the driver without blowing the thing up, grats you now have an interceptor.

Personally, I'm really fond of the vehicle mechanics and I'm glad not all the maps are just run and gun x.x

I love and hate the Moon map. With the limitations of the beta, we don't have enough options that are quick enough to fight the vehicles efficiently, especially when they get a hold of both or even just one of the Interceptors. The main issue is that they can easily crowd up and go wherever they want, and the Pikes can go wherever inside the buildings and mess you up bad.

The turrets are great for fighting them, but the one at C is poorly placed if you are trying to hopefully get rid of an Interceptor there, and they turn ridiculously fast. Hard to take on. Other than that though, I like the map. There are a lot of well-placed interior zones, the open areas make it good for sniping to an extent (can easily be killed when not paying attention). Supers are an issue for most of the maps, so they don't matter much to me here. Every capture point is very well designed with openings except perhaps C in my opinion, but overall it is pretty nice.

Vehicles though, fuck them. One we have new grenades and other weapons and abilities, I can't wait to see those things try to get us. In my opinion though, I don't think they should be able to capture the points, you should have to do it on foot, to fix some of the balancing issues there. Also, as a hunter, Golden Gun is KILLER on that map, I definitely recommend using it when you can, especially around A or long distance.

Different strokes for different folks and all that but this totally the feel that I got from Old Russia, Earth is a ruined desolate wasteland that has been destroyed by what appears to be a centuries long war with the "Darkness" and that rotting husk of a world is getting picked over by the Fallen and Infested. I thought Old Russia captured that empty desolation and sense of collapse perfectly and really enjoyed tooling around exploring various ruined complexes and such in solo play. Then again I though ODST was a mess on every level so I've a feeling we're on opposite ends of things here.

Y'know, you're right, and honestly Old Russia feels very much like it's following in ODST's footsteps and trying to improve it so I should like it more but....I dunno. My tastes changed I guess. One thing that comes to mind is that the enemy placement is static and constantly respawning. I don't know if it'll remain like that in the full game, but because Explore sends you back and forth through the area for tasks, it's just another one of those things that makes it very obviously a video game world with 100% gameplay centric focus. Those groups are where they are for predictability and for farming and for a constant stream of encounters, but it becomes a set rather than an area where sentient life is patrolling. So even as a wasteland inhabited by hostile forces it fails to set the tone IMO. It's too transparent.

I guess I just disagree. Even in the context of the story I always felt like ODST's story was just trudging through these gameplay encounters that they had to knit and weave together to make maximum use of what little environment they could. All the other games clearly took you on a journey where the environments and story were built to support each other and ebb and flow to changes in the narrative.

I can understand some of your other complaints but I always thought the architecture was always top notch in Halo. Even in Halo 4 I felt they took that to a whole other level. It always felt divorced from what you were used to for me, from the sharp cliffs to the radical variability in environments to the Halos themselves. Sometimes it felt more similar, like on Delta Halo, but for the most part I felt like especially in gaming it did make people question what the structures were and why.

You're right that ODST felt a bit stitched together from forgettable locales, but it worked for me at the time. I'd probably go back and dislike it now, but the feeling I described is what stuck with me. As for Halo's architecture, it's not that it wasn't well modeled or whatever, but it never struck me as inherently mysterious or appealing in that way. Like to the point where I feel the rush of "I need to know what that is." The tone of the games was flat. I'd hate for Destiny to fall flat from a narrative standpoint as Halo did because Destiny has even better art, but it still doesn't come across as epic and mysterious as the music and loading screens would have you believe. So far.

... They do? How come I never notice this?

Edit:
And that grenade did 1/10th shield there. Not really threatening. Probably why I didn't notice.

Yeah it's a grenade from a level 4 dreg. It's part of the AI behavior, so we can expect it to be there for other enemies as well. For instance, the cabal are said to be highly organized and military trained, so I would expect them to have more heavy duty stuff.

Seriously considering trading in my 360 and a fuckton of games for a PS4 just for this. It's just that good and I only experienced the PS3 one so far.

I think the multiple races will probably end up covering these bases, particularly something being a substitute for the Suicide Grunts in Halo. Maybe the Vex will do this, since Bungie described their battle tactics as focusing on overwhelming numbers.

I think the moon map is so much better than Blind Watch. Getting on those turrets and wrecking vehicles is pretty great.
I've had so much fun on those turrets, so satisfying.

Favourite turret moment so far, killed the enemy tank and a sparrow in quick succession... enemy fire team then tried to flank me, Warlock glide over the rock as they come round to get me, Nova bomb both of them.

Love that turret.

I think I'm just going to avoid PVP when the game hits, I'm sucking at it big time and I'm really having no fun with it either. But the other side of the game more than makes up for it.

Guys, i want an in-game clock.

Seriously.

If they're going to have time based-events, there should at least be a countdown in-game

I just hit the PS button if my phone or laptop isn't in view.

And I want to read the grimoires in-game and not on a website.

The app is better for this. But yes, an in-game solution would be greatly appreciated. Really, an in-game solution to view all of the data available on the site and app would be appreciated... All the kill stats, medals etc x.x

I don't get this whole issue about the supers in PvP it hasn't bothered me at all.

2-3 deaths in the enitre match is from supers and thats just as much as i use myn on Titan.
Mostly save it for the o-shit moments or when someone tries to steamrole me with a vehicle.

pretty cool game, i'm just a bit worried about the content.. it feels really fast and short.

The only "problem" i have is that is hard to read when a super is coming, make the warlock and the titan with a super ready have a shiny aura around them, problem solved.

When i see a hunter glowing gold i know i have to pay attention: make the same with the other two classes.

At the same time with some experience when a player is rushing forward, you know what's going to happen, but that's not the point.

The same is true when using a heavy weapon, you don't stand a chance, with an LMG loaded it's like having God mode on, should be more readable.

Having said that i find the pvp very fun.

But fix the loading time Bungie.

I think it's weird there's no text chat. This game needs /1 and /s and comic speech balloons. I should be able to tell people if there's an event going on or tell someone their character looks cool. They can use the PS app or Vita for the keyboard or you know, a real keyboard.

DO IT.

I wish more of my friends had PS4s, the couple that do just play sports games and CoD. The visuals in the PS4 version are incredibly smooth. I thought Reach looked good back in its day but it had some serious jaggies, I don't even want to see what the 360 and PS3 jaggies are like.

I have to admit the PS3 version runs very smoothly.

It's the most fun I've had with a game since Heartstone and The Last of Us before that.

This is a video game first and foremost. The way enemies respawn lets you set up runs, knowing exactly where and when the areas will repopulate. It's like an mmo, and it is incredibly fun to dance around an area from spawn to spawn.

Some spawns mix up what appears. Maybe try could do that more often, but I rally love how they run int from the dark passageways or fall down from drop ships.

It feels like an arcade game in a way, part of that 30 seconds of fun philosophy, I think this kind of design is why the game works so well. It doesn't ruin immersion for me because I'm immersed in the mechanics as much as the world.

So far I think his is the best fps I've played since Halo CE. I think I'm over my initial woes with the horrible fov, 30fps, and controller on the ps3 (for pve at least, pvp I'm getting there...). The next time I play a PC fps will be a bit of a wake up though.

I have to admit the PS3 version runs very smoothly.

It really does. I think I've noticed a couple of obvious frame drops for a second or two each time. If it's happened more, Then the game is good enough to distract me.

And I'm usually a 60fps or nothing PC user. Really impressed with what they've managed with the old hardware.

It's hard to know how big this game will be, but I don't really think it'll matter, it's bungies bad map design to the nth degree, big boring corridors with props that you can't interact with(If they've decided to populate the room with them) making the entire world feel very dead and dull. AI that is incredibly questionable, enemy design that is dull and uninspired, at least from what they show us right now. A hub town that could better serve as a simple menu system, that would at least be more useful. Loot that is not rendered in the world, except when you're holding it(lazy shit that was maybe OK In Mass Effect 1, but come on Borderlands kind of set a standard here). Non-destructible everything, in a game age when there are much more interactive elements in games. Are there any physics in this game?(I'm seriously asking, I haven't been paying attention to that, or I haven't been "lucky" to spot it)

I really hope the campaign isn't as disjointed as these past two tests have been, I wouldn't bother to go into a FIRE TEAM MISSION but, if I had a fire team mission happen as I entered an area I'd probably do that. When I did see someone in Explore mode I was just annoyed by them because they had killed the X number of things already and I'd have to wait around for the things to respawn again, gee thanks random person!

I hope the full version proves me wrong. OH Also multiplayer that rewards luck by making the weapon's stats and armor stats from gear you've lucked into in the PVE parts still carry weight, they say that character level doesn't matter or some nonsense but when I earned a better jump in my character sheet I did have better jumping in the multiplayer maps, also my leveled up grenades definately still worked in PVP mode. They need to have a vanilla PVP mode where all those things are thrown out the window.

The classes all feel too samey, especially when you level up some of their skills a bit more.

This is just an overhyped off brand Halo with a few hooks that have been done better elsewhere.

Using the app as a keyboard for chatting ingame would be GREAT! I would love to see this.

I did a comparison shot of the difference between USB transferring a screenshot from ingame and taking a capture card shot.

The JPEG artifacts are really apparent in some parts of the top shot. For a random spot that's easy to see, check out the bottom left icons, or the 'BETA BUILD' lettering and the surrounding area and the artifacting around it, and compare that to the bottom shot which is direct from a card.

hopefully in full game we'll see some sort of notification pop?

I think that'd be a great way to handle it, like "new event in PVP ect"

As I do agree having to deal with clocks and time zones ergh, bit much.

The reason why there is no real chat functionality is to stop people from griefing or being an ass to others, I think it's a great idea really, if you're playing with someone you can just invite them into your fireteam and then you'll be able to talk with no issues.

I also believe if the person is your friend online, you can also talk sans the party chat.

Hope this helps.

It's those realizations that are leading me to adjust my expectations. The idea of "setting up runs" in the open environment is in direct opposition to having an immersive, epic, mysterious sci-fi title IMO. Once you start thinking of the play area in terms like that, I don't think the game can deliver on its narrative aspirations. At that point it becomes a loot factory and a mechanics playground which is pretty much what the Alpha + Beta have felt like. That's fine, as I said I've been having a lot of fun, but going back to the original point, I don't think the story can be the draw of Destiny in that case.

i really hope bungie focuses on PvE Content.
pvp is a nice distractions, but ultimately feels mediocre.
its not more then "yet another shooter" so far for me.
PvE is where I have way more fun.

This is the Halo game I always wanted. The beta alone surpassed my experiences with the SP campaigns of Halo 3, ODST and Reach.
Sorry you don't like it.
