I was on a patio yesterday afternoon with a few friends when I suddenly heard my Ghost talking from a distance.

Thinking I'm going insane I look around to find out where the voice is coming from; it's Peter Dinklage walking down the street with his wife.

Random.

So quick question? What's going on with Crucible multiplayer for newcomers (not really, I was a level 6). I finally got onto a match last night (my first one) and got blown away. It seemed like my weapon was doing nothing and everyone else's was overpowered. The only kill i got was with my super charge strike. Was anyone else overwhelmed with their first multiplayer match?

It's amazing what happens when you've got a good team that uses headset. We won the game 20k to 5k - Based GAF.

I had a match end where we dominated the whole match. We had that Lockdown icon pop up. The match ended 20000+ to 4000. I took a screen grab, i'll post it up when i get home haha.

I suppose thats the trick isnt it? Borderlands for all its size didnt really have all that much variety, if Destinys environments are varied enough to keep it interesting.. then wandering explorers like me will have a field day!

Yea. Plus, from the Beta, this Russia place is huge. Lots of blocked off areas that you can't explore as well. So i hope the game is really big with lots of content :)

Were you in Iron Banner? Iron Banner the level difference and your armor / weps mean something.

That was a good game we had! I hope the servers are running by the time I am free :(

Just want to say a shout out to blaze, captain8bit, goathief, bitmapfrogs and damn it I can't remember the last peoples names (sorry) for the epic Iron Banner matches last night. I'm glad I finally managed to get you all in after the friends list went weird. We won most games, GAF TEAMWORK!

Also the game of football in the tower was a great way to end my night. Smile on my face was huge.

Had the same experience. You need the right setup, and weapon, and just get into the game. I was doing 1st place on most matches soon after that. But first couple of matches i did so terrible haha.

Was Rank 1 the highest we could get? I wasn't able to get to Rank 2 even tho I had more wins last night. Not a biggie. I assume we'll see it again in the full game.

Rank 2 requires 1200 rep, which would be extremely hard, if possible, in the four chances we've had. Once you hit rank 1, you get 30 points per win. The bounties are supposed to give you 100 each, but a couple are actually impossible(they require you equip the shader, class item and emblem, but the shader requires level 20), and the others are generally fairly hard.

I'm sure someone's managed rank 2 or at least gotten close if the bounties actually give the rep they're supposed to. However, I don't believe the one I've managed to turn in did x.x Could have been a fluke, though.

Wow cool!

No, it was my first time going to Crucible on the main screen, and then...I got my ass handed to me. It just felt like I was playing against people way over my level with better guns.

Dmg is noramlised.

Not 100% on upgrades though, do weapon upgrades actually take effect?

It's more likely players who've been investing a lot of time in the pvp and know it well enough to trounce newcomers. If you're good at FPS games you'll catch them up if you put the time in.

So far I haven't had a lot of time but I did get the warlock to 8. I did the strike with 2 randoms. Neither on a mic. Stupid guys kept getting killed by the walker thing. I got killed trying to revive them once so from then on for this fight I just left them there. They finally learned to back off and at least they were shooting at the weak parts the whole time.
The next phase where you have fight while the ghost unlocks the 3 levels, they each died a couple times here also. I used the heavy and took out the captains really fast.
On Septis, we had no problems. I had 106 kills and they each had like 60-80. Probably due to the 3-5 kills I had to get each time going over to revive them.

As for the story, I liked that they changed some of it, like finding out how you come across your first ship, etc. They totally changed the wizard from the moon dialogue, lol. As most of us guessed, dinklage's voice has been robotized to some extent. The fact that there are slots for other ghosts, I think it would be cool if you could get different ghosts which had different voices

I don't care for the Explore missions as much, but I did use the area to complete bounties, 100 kills, 20 enemies without taking damage, etc as an extremely quick way to get xp so I will for sure be looking for those when the game releases and I have to use the area to grind XP. (missions are like 260xp, the bounties were 2500, I believe.)

I like the warlock. I think it will be fun when your skills get OP. The 3 classes have enough cool stuff that I am motivated to level each one up. So far between alpha and beta I have still not played a Titan, yet.

Bonus abilities do, yes. Not sure if the attack boost one does, but things like "one random bullet has higher damage" and the like do.

Edit: Also, not all guns are created equal. Though "attack" is normalized, impact, rate of fire etc are still based on your gun's stats. So that's something to think about when picking your weapons.

So what gear are you guys running at the moment? My Warlock;
Armor;
Weapons;

Armor is mostly focused on Discipline and Auto Rifle stuff for Crucible. I like using my grenades a lot and the increased throw distance from the helmet is great. Shingen C rips apart everything in Crucible; high fire rate yet insanely stable, with this one even becoming more accurate as you fire! Scout Rifle for PvE, Shotgun and Sniper depending on the situation.

P.S.; Angry Magic is amazing.

TTK is very short in PVP and most guns will destroy you quickly. It's mostly about getting the drop on others first.

Any suggestions?

I use Autogun and a sniper for range, and i regret not having a rocket for vehicles. So i usually get owned facing a tank. Also, try using weapons that level up, so you have extra stats on them. They might have a slight effect or upgrade, but they do make a difference when you are shooting someone, you can also get a better downsight or scope. Which makes it better.

When you are capturing try to keep an eye on your radar. It usually blinks red when people are coming close, then it gets a quad red color when they are even closer. Then you are at least know which way they are coming.

Use grenades.

Hmm... use your jump and thrusters smartly. You can kill the thrusters tapping x, and reignite them by hitting x again.

A skill power from the titan or warlock will usually end up killing a tank, and also kill any enemy around. Great when you sneak and kill several people capturing a spot, and right now, using the ability and getting killed will not get rid of your power.

I've had a lot of fun with the beta over the past few days - I've gone from feeling pretty "meh" about the game to looking forward to it immensely.

Really can't wait to play it with a superior controller in a few days when it lands on XB1.

Yup, I have a feeling Hunters will be choosing the Bladedancer set for PVP.

Late game skills include

Stalker - crouch to cloak
Escape Artist - go invisible when hitting someone with Blink Strike ( bladedancer melee )
Vanish - press during Arc Blade ( bladedancer super charged attack ) to disappear from site.

Man, late game Hunters are gonna be fun to play.

Why? You will familiarize yourself with the area's so in time you'll know them like the back of your hand. A map ruins all exploration.

The map could hide everything the first time that wouldn't ruin exploration. I'm sorry but if I only play one hour one and then I don't want having to memorize a whole area.

Destiny PvP criticism ITT in a nutshell.

Super sad that most people on this forum don't have the self-awareness to realize things that they are bad at/die because of ≠ things that are "unbalanced."

Haha what. Check the leaderboards.

Lol if you think things are perfectly balanced. I mean, this is the same dev that gave us Halo pistol and Halo 2 BR.

While the Titan/Warlock supers are strong they are no where near the brokeness of the Golden Gun in Crucible. Not even close. Both of those actually require a bit of positioning while the Gun is just a murder machine from extreme range that also happens to kill vehicles more reliably than heavy weapons.

Shingen C is easily the most powerful rifle in the entire beta in my opinion; destroys anybody and don't matter if you play Iron Banner or not.

To all of those saying that hunters are thr best because they make up a big part of top 20.... Doesn't that just really say more to the fact that nobody is playing titans? Warlocks aren't as effective in pvp, hence why I'll be making a titan strictly for pvp in the full game, but the leap in logic that hunters are the best is more of an issue that 8/10 players I see are either warlocks or hunters and not many are making secondary characters. Correlation does not equal causation. I've had so many fucking teams made up of nothing but warlocks and hunters. Titans are truly getting no love so definitely will make one for pvp in full game.

Ah, so that's how it works. Seems like these events are pretty good challenges to keep people playing outside the story and regular PVP. Smart.

Having a hard time constantly doing the Warlock jump and glide thing,so much that it took me forever to do one of the side missions where I have to survey the area...it's on a small rooftop,in Alpha with my Hunter I just double jumped there but with a Warlock it took me a while lol...

I tried using the scout gun, because i love it. But there is not enough punch to go one on one when you are getting shot at the same time. I do see lots of people using handguns, and taking down people in 3 to 4 shots.

Yep, I think I found my problem. I love the Scout Gun in story and used it here. I think I just need to get a good autogun. Everyone is running COD setups I guess. lol

Ok, thanks.

Would be cool if they'd included a pvp stat for each weapon to help clear this up for new players.

omg these skill trees man are exciting as hell.

Defender - Titan Subclass has shit like ...

Ward of Dawn - create a shield to protect you and allies from harm
Weapons of Light - passing through Ward of Dawn grants temporary damage boost for you / all allies

Disintegrate - killing an enemy with melee provides a Force Barrier for you.
Gift of Light - when the shield created by disintegrate is active, all kills provide Orbs of Light
Iron Harvest - Heavy Weapon kills provide Orbs of Light for allies
Unbreakable - Force Barrier continually recharges.

So, your Titan can specialize in defense with this class or become like an Orb of Light creation machine for everyone during PvE / PvP.

The game is going to get insanely interesting to see what sort of playstyles people come up with.

Also, has Bungie stated there is something special about Sealing, a class? There is an option within each tree to seal the choices so you cannot change them. Why would you do that?

I dont see the need for a map. Old Russia is not that big.

Names are one reason. Frankly, I didn't bother learning the names of areas during the alpha, and still only remember a couple. I can know the place like the back of my hand and still have no clue where a place is when mentioned by name.

We also have a map in orbit. I highly doubt our tech is so terrible that we can't pull up a map in the field. We can see how much health enemies have, summon a hoverbike from thin air and so on, but not look at a map? =p

I don't see how seeing a very generalized map like the one in orbit that just shows you sectors and their names would hurt exploration in the slightest.

Titans are going to become key in defending territories with the shield power up.

I am horrible at PvP. First, people have much better guns than me. Second, people keep running up behind me and I die before I even knew they were there. Reminds me a bit of Halo when some players spend their time hiding in corners waiting to pull off a sneak attack.

How you guys get all that green loot?

Most from playing the SP. During events, or killing the boss mission. But you can find them all over the place. Even in MP, and you can also purchase some, or find those schematics that the guy reveals. You can even gamble and have the guy build you some and see if you luck out.

I've only encountered a few matches with campers. I hate when they do that in Control maps. Feels good to Titan smash them tho.
