What the fuck, it's not a domination mode?

No. In Control you have to actively hunt down your enemies while you capture flags, otherwise you will get no points.

The bonus scores goes as follows:

1 flag = 50p
2 flags = 100p
3 flags = 200p

So if you've captured 3 flags and kill someone it will be 100p for the kill and an additional 200p for the flags, 300p in total. Assist kills also goes towards the team score.
 
I honestly thought that all the bonus stuff that popped up on a kill were just applying to my personal score and not the team score.
 
You get 0 points for holding a point, not counting the points for initially capping or neutralizing. Holding a point gives you a bonus to your score when you kill someone. More points held = higher score when you get a kill.

So if you've captured 3 flags and kill someone it will be 100p for the kill and an additional 200p for the flags, 300p in total. Assist kills also goes towards the team score.

I KNOW I saw a video where a Bungie guy (Lars I think, maybe DeeJ) was talking about how as long as they held 2 of the 3 control points they would stay in the lead bc they were earning more than the other team. Didn't mention one thing about getting kills while holding them. I'm assuming they didn't understand either lol

I have to find this video now. Pretty sure it was an IGN one.. Fairly recent too. May have been the beta stream though which was like 2 hours long. Though I know some of you others saw it too. Help!
 
Wait, so did anyone actually answer the differences in elemental damage?

I saw Arc = Better Shield damage
Solar = DoTs

but where does that leave Void? Better Health damage?
 
Slowly capping a point is better than everybody dying in a big purple explosion and not capping the point at all.

No, it's not. Everybody that took part of the cap gets points for capping. The points stack. Unless you're running into more instances of you being the last one alive after defending a point during cap and then also capping, you're literally giving away points. Hell it's better to give a point cap away to return with more people to all cap at once.
 
Any signs that there will be more unique weapon classes in the full game? As it is now, we've seen these kinds of weapons:

Sniper
Shotgun
Rocket
MG
Pistol
Automatic Rifle
Semi Automatic Rifle
Charging Rifle.

We need more variety. What about a constant-laser beam? What about melee weapons? What about dual wielding? What about guided/auto targeting weapons? I want to see some funky alien guns, damnit.

There's exotic weapons, if that counts. One of them is a sniper rifle (Closing time, I think) which makes you invisible while aiming.

I do like to keep my K/D as positive and it's certainly on the borderline but hopefully will improve as I get more skillful. I've learned not to just go it alone all the time and run and gun. Taking a bit more of a defensive approach over all out attack, at which I'll more likely fail. I had a great game on the Rust level where I stayed back more and defended the Flag and I was rewarded nicely with more kills. However, a good team is always paramount. Having 6 on 4 like I had in the Iron Banner last night was just a white wash and completely frustrating.

Yeah. Outside of the fusion rifle, I haven't been too impressed with the imagination of the guns in Destiny. Personally, I hope we see more creative weapons farther into the game (though I'm not getting my hopes up). If not, I'd really like to see it for the expansions and the sequels.
 
Most Control games, players just kinda run back and forth between zones. But there's no reason to when you have two zones, since you can only really hold two at a time.

The best strat id often use on Shores of Time is to set up in the jungle by C with a few snipers who can watch that Zone and the rest stay in front of B. You secure the heavy Ammo, two zones and great lines of sight. The other team gets A spawn (which is exposed) and a zone with no sightlines to either one.

But unlike Blind Watch, this set up can be broken with good snipers, supers and the heavy ammo that spawns at A.

Rusted Lands may be the most balanced, but Shores of Time is currently the most skill based IMO.
 
I saw my friend playing the competitive multiplayer and the score was something like 16000 to 14000. This may be a small thing, but does the way the points are given out justify such high number for a score, or is it something that could be reduced to simpler numbers (Ex: instead of having a kill be 100 points, it is worth 10). It always annoys me when it seems like games have huge point totals arbitrarily, like it will attract some idiot who thinks higher point values for completing actions makes it a better game.

Yeah, I haven't been to impressed with the weapons so far. Even the legendary ones we get to buy or the faction ones seem so bla.

The names are cool tho.
 
I mean you can tell when you kill someone and you don't control any points that you only get 100 versus the extra points otherwise right? I'm bad at this game but even I noticed that...
 
Posting my general strategy for PvP because I still have a craving for the beta:

On all the maps that aren't the moon, split off into two groups and take B and C as fast as possible. Ignore the shit out of A. Defend B and C, not by sitting on the flags but by patrolling between them and keeping track of your radar. I would generally stick closer to one than the other to get the upper hand to start killing them before they hit the flag zone.

If one of them is being taken and you're not near it, check how fast the bar is filling up to gauge how many enemies are on it. If it's going fast you'll probably want at least one more teammate with you, because they'll have at least two on it. If you're going in lone wolf I would start sprinting over and then crouch sneaking when near with a rocket or super in hand. After you hopefully kill them, go ahead a little bit and make sure no one is coming with radar, and then cap the flag if a teammate isn't on it. If a teammate is on it and capping it, get your ass back to the other point, either B or C, because they will be coming for it. Rinse and repeat.

For the Moon it's a bit different; head straight for the middle structures as fast as you can every time you spawn. Then I basically do the same thing as above, but instead I move underground patrolling between A and C, and ignore B. Let the vehicles and snipers worry about the outside and B. Also, make sure you get heavy weapons on this map especially, they take out vehicles and turrets fast and they are easy kills in the tight corridors and boxed in flag zones. You should always be getting them anyways, even if you don't do much with them it's better in your hands than theirs.

Lastly, the best strategy; if you're playing with randoms (which I was 90% of the time) pray to the Destiny gods you can do well. You probably won't even have to think twice about things when playing in a decent fireteam against randoms.

So many people quoted me; we actually had this discussion last night, so maybe 10 or so pages back.

I must admit, for most of the Alpha (first 4-5 matches) I played Control like Domination. But I began reading the messages that popped up on screen and began to understand what Control is all about.
 
Just because I think this can't be said enough; I really, really hope that Bungie will wake up and do the limited-time events at times that are reasonable for people not living in America. I can't go play destiny @ 11PM or 4AM when I've got to work the day after.
 
Screwed around with Share Factor for the first time using a bit of my Destiny play from last night.
I went exploring into some higher level areas-areas where most enemies can just about one shot you. I got some pretty good footage of a huge Hive colony near the Forgotten Shore and a peak at a massive enemy toward the end.

Same with me. 2 PM Pacific means 1 AM at GMT+4 in my location. Come on Bungie, put reasonable limited time events for your fellow non-American fans. D:
 
@People complaining about the lack of weapon variety; that variety comes in the form of the modifiers attached to it, which is why I think the level cap should have been raised for this Beta. If we had been able to experiment with Rare weapons ( they have more modifiers ), it would have felt much more diverse.

I just heard from a friend that there is talk that the game might go Subscription based. I don't see this plausible, since this is information you need to have in a preorder description, no? any thoughts? or comments?
 
About the hipfire as you watch some of the media videos like the original strike reveal the higher level weapons and characters Bungie displays seem to be even more effective with hipfire than any beta weapon.

As we get higher leveled and better gearI think the hipfire accuracy will start going even further into Halo territory when we start getting weapons, abilities, and armor that all start putting some crazy stats and builds on our guardians.

This. Not to mention they only give PDT times for officials events/announcements/etc, so most people get confused by the timezone conversion (see the numbers of "when do this event start ?" thread in reddit).

Yep, there is a world outside of 'Merica.
 
Beta is down until Wednesday? Damn

I worked the first few days of the beta and have today and tomorrow off to play, Then I work Wed-Sat night. Guess no beta for me :(
