Let's assume there are at least 2 distinct locations on the four planets, each with a strike and explore mode, and at least 5 story missions. That'd be 20 story missions and 8 strikes and explore modes. And this is just bare minimum. Planets could have 3, 4 or 5 separate locations.

If there were 4 locations on Earth, Venus, Mars and the Moon each, that'd mean 16 explore missions, 16 Strikes, and 80 story missions. The moon probably has a bit less, so you could knock it down to 70 story missions, 14 strikes and 14 explore modes. This may or may not include expansions.

That's a lot of content, especially for just a year. This doesn't even include the Raid, Crucible or that Vanguard thing, which people are probably going to play to death for much longer.

I don't think anyone should be worried about the amount of content in Destiny. Don't expect 50 strikes or something, and the numbers above are probably even a bit generous, but we've seen only a glimpse of what awaits us. Now whether or not those bosses are fun to fight and those areas are interesting to explore will be another thing, but I don't think anyone will be posting 3 months later and asking "is that it?"

Prepare to be massively disappointed.

This is the lore text for Earth on bungies site
"The wilderness beyond the walls of the City are ruined and corrupted, claimed by nature and our enemies. From the war-torn fortresses of the Twilight Gap to the skyward steppes of Old Russia, evidence of our lost glory still litters the Earth, waiting to be rediscovered."

That alone indicates multiple zones on Earth. I would honestly expect multiple locations on Venus and Mars aswell. And there are grimoire cards for Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn also. And we've seen a glimpse of what seemed to be Mercury in one of the trailers.

At this point I'm honestly choosing to belive that Bungie's total silence of this matter is simple because they've built a vast game, and are confident enough that they don't need to show or talk about most of it before release, instead letting players discover it as they play it. That would also fit with the discovery theme of the game. I mean their lore text for Mars and Venus even says "Awaiting reports from the Vanguard." - That's us.

Mercury? Some area on Venus? The Black Garden? (which looks like a separate location on Venus) I think we can make a safe bet that there is more than 4 explorable locations.

If I'm not flying through a forest on my speeder in the full game, Bungie might as well burn everything down and leave video games forever.

You have one job.

I was waiting so badly for the Sparrow sound to make that loud horn sound the Star Wars speeders do. You know the one.

It's almost there but I know Marty and Jay deliberately avoided it. >.<

An interesting thing I learned the other day though, the E-Brake on the Sparrow (R2) sounds like an actual bird sound.

Earth: 1 location (Explore, 5-7 Story Missions, 1 Strike)
Moon: 1 location (Explore, 5-7 Story Missions, 1 Strike)
Venus: 1 location (Explore, 5-7 Story Missions, 1 Strike, 1 Raid)
Mars: 1 location (Explore, 5-7 Story Missions, 1 Strike)
The Reef: 1 location (Explore, Recurring Bounties from the Queen of the Reef, Story Missons)
12-14 Multiplayer Maps

Things will expand over time with DLCs and stuff.

That would be my guess .

That's the bare minimum, I'm hoping for more though considering I blew threw 5 story missions in less than 2 hours.

How large would you say the Beta area of Old Russia compares to the entirety of Halo Reach's campaign?

I honestly feel like it's maybe 2 times the size of an average Halo Reach level going off memory. maybe 3 times if we count the strike and areas with high level enemies. Halo levels are pretty big man.

I'd really like to see grenades looked at.
Hunter grenades feel fucking useless, damage wise. Feels more like a poking mechanic.
Titan grenades serve purpose - Blind and disorient the fuck out of your opponents, or block off a door with a pulsing grenade that can fuck your shit.
Warlock starting grenade... just wrecks your shit no matter what. block off a cap point or a door hard, only grenade I know of able to get multiple fucking kills on enemies with full shield if they're stupid enough.
These are prolly to balance other stuff. Hunter already has throwing knife and insane mobility (ever jumped with a Warlock? :)). Titan has massive armor.

No way it's only two. Old Russia is at least three large Halo Reach levels stitched together, maybe more considering the Strike.

Reach's levels were also fairly linear.

If you were to take all of the playable space found from a typical playthrough of the Reach campaign, I'm sure you'd be surprised.

That being said, it does sound like Bungie is embellishing a bit when claiming that Old Russia is the same size as Reach's campaign.

Like I said, this is going off memory, of a game I haven't played in years. But we can at least agree that Old Russia is definitely nowhere near the total size of all Halo Reach levels combined, yes?

old russia is huge, and that vault video shows that there are places we had no idea existed yet.

the reason I think people are concerned is that it's...well, old (ironically now at this point) and it's not filled with enough to make exploring feel worthwhile. But just the fact that there are at least 8 of these locations has me excited, especially for the ones on Mars.

It's kind of a shaky claim to make considering that Reach has a space mission with a ton of it being playable space. Old Russia is fucking huge though.

It's important to note that we have not seen all of Old Russia yet in the beta.

As evidence of the vault area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFynhHBPzm4

Kings Watch is also completely unavailable to players in the prerelease versions.

Well that shot is definitely from an Earth location. I know that exact area isn't in the beta, but at first glance I always assumed it was Old Russia. Now that i'm looking at it harder, could it be the Twilight Gap maybe?

Actually, nope. That cant be old russia since its not near the city. Has to be Twilight Gap. 2 Earth locations confirmed

Honestly I think we have seen 95%+ of Old Russia in the beta. That vault is clearly the end goal of the Old Russia zone, i'd bet money that it's
what Rasputin is guarding
.

And Kings Watch is just the area full of super high level enemies, right? I mean according to that map the ghost accesses in one of the story missions, it's clear that there isn't more to Old Russia than what we can already access in the beta.

Wasn´t earth like 3-4 diffrent locations, like the rusted lands with flooded chicago and some others i don´t remember atm

Those places were never confirmed as actually being in Destiny, they were places that joe staten talked about in the 2013 destiny GDC talk, about their Destiny world building process.

I have no idea what the Jovian Complex or Kings Watch are, but they are definitely not explorable in the pre release versions.

I would agree that the claim that Old Russia is equivalent to ALL of Halo Reach is a bunch of bologna though.

I donno man, that would be my guess too. I'm gonna say the story missions combined would be about 10-12 hours. That's enough for me, that's like playing a lengthy FPS ala Half Life 2 or Wolfenstein TNO. I don't expect it to be RPG length, but of course all of this is guessing based on what we've heard and the world map we've seen.

I also didn't realize there's only one Raid planned, I thought the Vanguard thing next to The Crucible on the world map would house multiple Raids. Anyone have an idea what the Vanguard area may store then?

So is the consensus that something actually "cool" will happen July 26th in terms of rewards?

I'll be at a wedding that day so I'm curious if I'll be missing out on much. Should I have a friend log me in that day or is it likely going to be sort of meh.

The reward for playing on the 26th is an emblem for the full game, unless anything else gets announced between now and then.

Apologies if this has been answered before, but what stats are carried over to PVP and what is considered "normalized"? Is it just class upgrades and weapon stats?

once the beta is done, i'll have the last of us remastered and whatever ps+ games come out for august to keep me busy and that month will fly by. i feel like destiny in september is right around the corner. i can't wait.

Lol @ people worried about the amount of content. I've put 25+ hours into Destiny so far across the Alpha and Beta, with only Old Russia available ( and even that has areas blocked of or un-explorable due to high level opponents ) and could easily put in 10 hours more in just OR. Let's say about 40 hours per Explore map, not counting Crucible, additional events, the Raid or DLC. That's 160 hours of game-time for me there. And that's the 'worst' case scenario.

i'm at 20 hours on alpha, 23 hours on Beta.

You ever play an mmo before? 160 hours is nothing
