Bungie said it's intentional and meant to cut down on unpleasant interactions with strangers. It's definitely done that, but it's becoming clear that there was a pretty big tradeoff involved, especially with fireteams being clunky to join and set to friends only by default.

I tested this. Not all lost drops are sent to the Postmaster. I purposely left a green engram drop on the ground in The Last Array's final fight and checked the Postmaster afterward. Didn't get anything. Drop lost forever ;_;.
I agree. Encryptograms look too much like ammo. I know the postmaster will deliver them to you (most of the time apparently), but I like to pick them up! I'm old school like that.

There are weapon unlocks that let you pick up ammo if you shoot at it. Same should apply for loot.
White drops can be missed because they don't glow and may be confused for ammo drop, but green loot is hard to miss. Just jump in the air and do a 360 to scour for loot you may not have picked up.

Yo, I don't have issues finding drops. I'm saying I tested whether or not all lost drops get sent to the postmaster. Turns out they don't.

Let's be real here, the story telling in Halo was pretty damn weak also.
Bungie are kings of creating lore, but I've always felt they fall really flat on the actual story telling. Even some of the past cutscenes have left me confused as to what is even happening. The ending of Halo 3 comes to mind when

It seems as if you'd be able to download it once the code is input. I don't know of any Xbox restrictions that prevent you from downloading once a code is entered.
