And how are these Transformers movies making money? They're all horrible. Just the worst. And they're all huge hits! WTF?
I hate Americans () taste in movies. Lucy looks so bad.I'm American

Guardians of the Galaxy gonna tank so haaaaaaaaaaaaard baby.
Public aint ready to go watch talking racoons and trees and shit. At least not the way GotG has been advertised. This shits gonna brick like crazy.
It really is. This will be the biggest test for him and it could actually hurt his brand if it's a colossal bomb, which is possible.Hercules might be the best test yet of The Rock's star power. I like the guy but I don't think it's gonna do so well.
I think I read $180 mil for GotG. So it would need 350-400 mil worldwide to break even.At worst....GOTG will do CA1/Thor numbers but I expect it to do much better. Disney won't let it bomb, they are going to market it so much and there isn't much competition.
What was the budget on it?

Disney marketed the ever living shit out of John Carter and it bombed miserably. There's only so much you can polish a turd with publicity.
This thread is going to be really good at identifying who is in touch with general audience vibes and who are living in their own little caves thinking movie success is tied to how they personally feel about something.![]()

So like the NPD bomba prediction threads then.
John Carter and The Lone ranger had bad reviews and word of mouth. Everything seems positive for GOTG and I saw it was tracking for a $60-$80m opening weekend
I think GotG turned it around as the first two trailers for it were fucking horrible for a general audience. No context or explanation as to what the hell was going on.
The one they have at the moment with the 'from the studio that brought you...' is very good and very clear even to an idiot as to what the movie is.
Which makes it even sillier that they were both pretty solid films imo.
I didn't see them at the cinema specifically because of the reviews and word of mouth got to finally see them and discover they were great adventure movies.

Yeah I think GoTG is also a contender for flop. But there's that Marvel logo and it had big explosions in the trailer, so who knows.

The average moviegoer could not give less of a shit about cartoons or video games. Claiming that these characters were in any way known in the mainstream because of them is just absurd.I wouldn't say that about all Marvel films. Marvel has established brands that have been around for decades. Even Thor and Iron-Man have existed in some form or fashion outside of the comic books for a long time. Rather it be cartoons, action figures, kids clothing, or videogames. Many people still knew who Thor and Iron Man were before the movies were around without ever reading their comics. While might be considered "B Tier", they've still had a shit ton of exposure for decades.

Why are people wishing for movies that they have never seen to bomb? Seems ridiculous. Wait till you at least see the movie before determining whether it deserves to succeed or not.

I have no idea why people think that TMNT will bomb.
The Turtles toyline has sold pretty well this year. Kids know who they are. It'll do fine (and I really wish it wouldn't).
Of course, "bomb" on this thread seems to mean different things every page so who knows...
Amazing Spiderman 2 was the main bomber. It had a combined budget of $380m when you factor marketing plus dev costs. Add Sony not making any money with merchandise and I'll wager it lost them a great deal of profit.
