Trails in the Sky: FC on Steam/GOG July 29th

I will support the series by buying the first game, and if I like it enough, the second game.
And more if they release the sequels.
Nayuta would be great too.

Don't get a lot of hopes for Nayuta.

Also, if you finish FC you WILL want SC, that fucking ending.

Oh, right. If Agarest can sell, this should have a good chance. On GOG it'll stand out even more.

I was buying Agarest and expected a NIS SRPG. What I got was a good VN with horrible boring gameplay :(
The VN-parts are really okay, but the gameplay is just so bland. It feels like work rather than fun. Stuck in the third generation.

Hmmm, I guess the real question is whether to go with GOG.com, steam or wait for SC to be released?

I played through the psp version but it was so long ago now that I feel I could use a refresher before SC comes out.

Nayuta isn't really feasible, and it's totally unrelated to the canon Kiseki series, so I'd personally rather they don't pay it any mind.

Not counting SC, we've got 5 more canon games to get to, with more on the way, so if XSEED goes ham on the Kiseki series, I'd much rather see all effort be used for the main series.

Nayuta's probably the kind of game that'd be at the front of XSEED's short list for localization choices had it come out on a more opportune platform. Instead, it's a crazy late PSP game.

Well, I could still be surprised by whatever bullshit could get in the way of a localization, but it's a Falcom action RPG that's reasonably inoffensive and isn't overly cutesy, so retailers probably wouldn't object to carrying it and if it were one of those two (well, being offensive seems to be less and less of a concern) it'd probably be there for digital release at least.

Stop there and save yourself from the insane difficulty spikes you have yet to reach.

I'd prefer to get 3rd which is on PC and continues the story.

It's kinda sad cause everyone that has played it says that Nayuta is a great game.

An old joke for a similarly niche game. :P If you did have a Wii it'd be a worthy addition, though.

Going from Corpse Party to Trails is going to be quite the flip. Hope you enjoy it~

Ha, right. It did seem like a really weird suggestion to make after I mentioned Corpse Party. lol

Speaking of which, you guys better do Blood Drive! I'm really enjoying the first game and I'd hate to get into the series now only to end up missing out on the new one. :P

Well, if it's between Nayuta and the rest of Kiseki I'd gladly take the latter, Nayuta's a great action RPG and in a style that doesn't really NEED comprehension of Japanese to enjoy. The rest of the franchise is more like trying to get through a dense TV show like Game of Thrones in a language you can't understand.

Still, I think Nayuta's probably more reasonable text-wise to localize and is a good thing to get out in between the bigger games, especially when you don't have the same people trying to do both (which seems unnecessary, just coordinate terminology and references and call it a day.)

As others have said, I wouldn't say any singular game in the Kiseki series is the greatest RPG of all time or anything like that.

But I would argue that taken as a whole, it's one of the best RPG series out there, and my personal favorite. Taken on its own, a game like Ao no Kiseki is great, but its true worth comes out when put in the context of how it moves the world/characters/story forward. Sen no Kiseki in particular really benefits from this.

So no, FC isn't the greatest RPG ever made (it's very good though), but it is the beginning of an incredible saga that's still going.

Anyone who played the PC version - can you save anywhere, or does the game has savepoints?

Also, XSEED folks, how about some (free? $1?) DLC with a spoiler free guide for maxing out BP points. Something with a bit more visual punch than a random GameFAQs txt guide, I mean.
Or is Valve still skittish about game guides? They seem to have removed all Prima Guides from the store recently.

Wow, this came out of nowhere for me. Love XSEED's work. They gave me a chance to enjoy Ys. I have to support this. Helps that the game is apparently good too.

I know that no one wants to say anything negative about this because it's something people have been anticipating for a long time and there's this sense of not wanting to seem entitled or anything, but seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the screens on the Steam page? The font is awful, and the text placement seems less than desired too. It's really amateur looking.

Look at this. The "Attack" isn't centered at all, and the font in general looks so squished it just feels completely off.

Couldn't find a better comparison from the PSP version but here's one I managed to google:

What happened?!

The whole thing is handled by one person, is it not? Well yeah that's bad still.
On the bright side coming from ys releases, you can hope they address the complaints with patches, they read here obviously....

Edit: anyone has ps3 shots?

Hopefully they'll patch these things.

Could be its an image from an older build? They'll get it sorted out by release I guess.

The font doesn't bother me. I like it better than the font they used in the PSP version.

"Attack" not being centered does look off, though.

The font looks really bad to me. I actually find it pretty hard to read the dialogue boxes in the other screens without being bothered. It's way too thin for my liking. I think the font could be acceptable for info display if they really need the space for more text, but definitely not for dialogue! :(

The font is niiiice. I like supersmall, thin, squashed fonts, but then I do have superior deluxe vision. It's probably not fair for everyone else.

View it full-screen, and I think you'll change your mind. It's super hi-res and crystal clear. Not hard to read in the slightest when you're actually playing -- it's a marked improvement over the PSP font.

No, I still think it looks bad. How do you think I was viewing it? :P

Just a quick question from a European guy...
What about the price ? Will it be 19.99€ too ? Or will XSeed be kind and apply a dollar to euro conversion, making it 14.99€/15.99€ ?
If Ys Origin is anything to go by, it should be the case, considering the game is 20 dollars and 16 euro...

They already said in this thread that they're trying to price it fairly for europeans. We'll have to wait and see.

No offence but will full screen change the left align thing with the text "attack" too? ;)

It's just quite blatant to me since I am at work right know working on an UI for an economic system lol

I agree. The PSP font makes good use of the space available. The PC fonts just don't seem to have been fitted correctly. Off centre and squashed. This is coming from someone who has never played the PSP version properly!

I agree that the new font is too thin, but at the same time I vastly prefer the new one over the font they've used in the PSP game. I really didn't like that one at all. The attack text not being centered is weird, though.

I have never been excited to double dip on a game, but this time around I'm anticipating the release as much as the original release back in the day. Weird! And yet so exciting.

It's the first time I buy it. So I'll just discover it, but I cant say no to a JRPG on Steam.

I think it looks bad as well. The PSP font looks better to me. The current PC font looks too thin/tall.

You can save anywhere (that you can get into the menu). The game autosaves every time you move to a new screen/finish a battle or whatever, too.

PSN sale please

it's been over a year since the last one

:(

Oh God, I hope not. I just grabbed it for full price earlier today!

Seriously though, I don't see it happening since it could potentially hurt the PC version's sales. It's kinda why I just went for it. Also, has it really been so long since the last sale? Someone in this thread mentioned one happening very recently and I was kinda kicking myself for missing it.

Only on EU PSN unfortunately.

OMG finally! I'm very excited I can't wait to play it. I stopped playing the PSP version the day this was announced so I'm really looking forward to finishing it. Now all we need is some SC news (lol).
