Would you have killed him? [Ending spoilers for Seven]

Rewatched Seven again, today. Great movie, but the ending always gets me. Morgan's character is all he'll win if you shoot him, but c'mon what human on earth wouldn't pull the trigger against the man who killed your wife and unborn child, and then had the nerve to mail it to you.

Roles reversed I doubt Morgan's character would have even hesitated.

No, because that would have been mercy. An instant, painless, cut-to-black death? I'd take that anyday over life in prison.

If you wanted to hurt him, I think there are much nastier things you can do with a loaded pistol. Killing him just prevents him from ever feeling pain.

EDIT: and yes, I agree there should be a spoiler tag in the title.

:lol

You spoiled the ening for me but that is okay.

We watched it at school during one class...I still remember the smelly tree room, that gut guy,...
I don't even know I'll watch it again ever.

ed: buy yeah, spoiler thread asking for something specific not even mentioned in the thread name or {se7en - spoilers}

I wouldn't have been able to think rationally, so yeah probably.

I haven't seen that movie but from what I read in the first post I came to the conclusion that yes, he deserved to be shot.

This thread is a fucking travesty. I don't give a shit because I've seen the movie but OP you're a gigantic ass for posting a thread title like that and opening with the name of the movie you just spoiled. Come on man.

I really don't know what it s like to be in Pitts shoes in the movie. But if I was to take a guess I would say yes although I might resort to torture.

Some people will try and mostly give you carefully constructed, logical answers perfectly weighed with pros and cons, to give the most balanced and ethical answer possible. They will lead you to believe they would act in the utmost honorable and fair way imaginable.

The problem with all that bullshit
is that the character in that situation is not in the right state of mind, nor would anyone here be if they were in his shoes. He is a emotional wreck caught in a already highly emotional and charged situation, he does not have time nor the energy to think through any of it.

So its really impossible to answer, your best hope is that you can force your body to just throw the gun away, and at best just punch him once and hope Summerset holds you back.

I didn't like the ending. Kevin Spacey killed every sin but not "wrath". He could have also killed an "envy" person without having to die. Dumbest killer ever.

No, because the fact that Mills did not conform to his archetype of wraith would torment him more than death, the latter which Doe needed to atone in the eyes of God; as he was stricken with envy. Remember, suicide is a mortal sin in the eyes of God. So Doe would have been forced to either live in constant torment due to not receiving punishment for his original sin or commit yet another grave sin in search of succor.

so are thousands of other movies that lots of people haven't seen.

Would have been nice to have the movie title in the subject

Most of those thousands of other movies aren't cultural touchstones. I wouldn't expect a spoiler warning for Darth Vader being Luke's father or Leo dying in the Pacific Ocean, either. The ending of this movie is so well known all you need to say is "What's in the box?" to trigger a flood of quotes from it and probably at least one impression of Kevin Spacey.

Hard to say. Perhaps through the red mist I would try to see some sense in what Morgan's character had to say and then content myself with both kneecaps maybe.

But probably not.

That's what everybody thinks but put yourself in the situation right there on the field... I doubt anyone would think at all.

How hard is it to put (SE7EN SPOILERS) in the title, seriously? I've seen the movie. It's great and people deserve to view it unspoiled. Who the fuck cares if it's 20 years old, show some consideration.

On topic: Probably. If I could think rationally, no, but who could think rationally in that situation? It would ruin you.

Rationally I'd say no. He wants you to kill him and I wouldn't give him the satisfaction.

But assuming my wife+unborn were killed I probably wouldn't act rationally.

I wouldn't want to, because that's what he wanted.

But I can't imagine being able to keep myself from doing it. Especially in the moment.

How you gonna give away one of the best reveals ever bruh. It's true it's pretty well known but I'd argue the fact that the movie is kinda fucked up and didn't make Star Wars/Titanic money (tho it was a success) that not EVERYONE knows what happens so it's still worth not being spoiled.

My memory might be foggy but didn't Pit shoot the guy before opening the box?

So it could have been very possible that it wasn't her head in the box.

I hadn't seen it before 6 months ago, and didn't know the ending. If I had just wandered into this thread, I'd be fucking PISSED

Spoiler tag that nonsense

I don't see how you couldn't. Which makes it even more devious and fucked up.

John Doe is up there as the most frightening serial killer in a non-horror movie.

I would have beaten his face to a bloody pulp. Just enough to be alive and letting him rot away in prison. That would be his nightmare.
