To me this actually makes no sense in terms of weapon balance! Weapons balance themselves out in the long run and have done since the dawn of the FPS. Normally a high ROF gun with low recoil will have really low weapon damage - offsetting its usefulness. Whereas a Low ROF gun with higher recoil with have really high damage to offset the slow ROF.

In PvP destiny there is no point in choosing the latter gun because the damage will be in line with all other guns in the autorifle class. In short if the Multiplayer PvP weapon "balance" remains the same then the best rifle to choose in multiplayer will simply be a ROF gun with a large weapon mag. (Thats how it stands in the beta at least)

There's a conflation here of two stats: Attack and Impact.

Attack is your damage scaling. A weapon with an attack of 20 won't do shit against a level 8, but a weapon with an attack of 70 will do damage just fine.

Impact is your damage numbers. A weapon has a raw impact score, which is then modified up or down based on the attack of the weapon vs the defence of the person being attacked.

In the cruicible, they flatten out the scaling due to attack and defence, but DON'T alter the raw numbers due to impact. Thus a low rate of fire, high impact gun will still do more damage than a high rate of fire low impact one per bullet, if that makes sense.

Managed to get to level 8 pretty quickly. The story stuff I thought was great. I was a bit surprised how short the missions were but they're pretty fun, especially in a group of 3. Kind of wondering if they'll up the difficulty though. With a fireteam of 3 we pretty much steamrolled the story missions. The strike had some decent challenge to it though which was nice.

Played a handful of Crucible matches as well. Enjoyed it for the most part but I gotta say the aim assist and bullet magnetism is off the charts, especially for sniper rifles. I don't think I've ever seen so many headshots before. Also the vehicles flat out suck. I hope they're either reworked or done away with completely. I like the First Light map itself but the vehicles tend to ruin it a bit. Other than that though I'm really enjoying the Crucible. Can't wait to see more maps and modes.

Overall the game's great so far. Pretty much everything I expected/wanted out of it. Should be fun messing around the next few days in the beta and I'm really excited for the full release.

Also the sound design seems weirdly poor. The music I think sounds great but rarely seems to fit what's actually going on in the game. The weapons also sound really bad after playing Wolfenstein: The New Order. Actually, this entire game seems pretty bland after playing Wolfenstein. Massively disappointed :l

You can't be serious. Wolfenstein had the worst sound mixing in forever. Whatever good weapon sounds it had, they were fucked by the mixing.

The crucible sucks. It's just not very good. It's not satisfying to get kills and the gameplay doesn't seem to flow very well.

Can't really argue with this as it's purely subjective, but aside from a few niggles with coming out of sprint smoothly, the game flows just fine for me.

Why is there such an emphasis on vertical movement with the double jump and jetpack etc. but you can't shoot properly whilst in the air?

For traversal. And you can launch supers from the air, or hip fire weapons like the fusion rifle accurately, or rockets, or grenades. I've scored kills with hip fire auto rifle while jumping too. Just takes some practise.

Vehicles are massively OP

Should have vehicle takedowns, but turrets will strip any vehicle.

and there does seem to be a pretty big level advantage. Was having a snipe off with a guy and he killed me in two shots, I had to hit him 3 times..

Damage is evened out. You're upgrades will work though, but they're not enough to give you a huge advantage. Just like perks in other shooters.

Also supers are fucking awful.

Supers are fine, imo. Again, subjective I guess. Every now and then I get spanked by one, but it's not often enoguh that I can't get a good flow.

Very disappointed in it really. I'll play a few more matches to see if my opinion changes but at the moment it's pretty bad. What happened to Bungie's MP designers since Halo 3?

I think this is great, just needs a little tweaking to bring certain weapons up to speed.

It's not Halo, if you go in and try to play like Halo it won't work. You nee to play it like Destiny, and that will come if you practise.

Man I just wish it would be possible to turn off aim assist. It's very distracting for me since I turn it off practically in every game.

Any chance that they will change this until release?

They never offered it in Halo so I'd guess no.

Ghost's voice is 100% better in the Beta and I didn't mind it before.

Anyone think MS is missing out not trying to get Bungie to throw a few Halo themed things in as exclusive DLC?

Apparently I can't hope for the best because it's stupid, whatever

I just think people on the other side are not giving the game a fair shot
Also somewhat a response before the edit.

I game mostly on Xbox platforms. I'm a huge Halo fan spend countless of hours on those games. When Destiny was announced I was hyped as hell, I played the beta on the PS4(currently playing it on Xbox One) and I honestly didn't see why it's all that special. It's looking to be a good game that's for sure, I like the PvE gameplay. However the PvP is disappointing, kills aren't satisfying, the flow isn't there, there isn't a balance that I expect from Bungie.

Overall I agree with jem0208. It's probably because I expected more from Bungie, Destiny doesn't live up to the hype so far for me. Is it fair to judge a game based on a beta/demo? Not exactly, does it give me an impression of how the rest of the game is? Certainly.

There needs to be penalties for dying. Lose glimmer or lose experience, or something.

Absolutely yes.

I like it that when you play on hard mode, certain areas have a respawn restriction.

But having no penalty at all in normal mode kind of kills the motivation to approach encounters more tactical.

It would be kind of awkward for Bungie since they don't own the IP =p

And plus, Sony's got Destiny in their grips right now when it comes to exclusive content

Rather than spending more time on my warlock I decided I'd see what the other classes have to offer before the beta concludes. Getting into this titan, and I think I may enjoy it more than warlock. The increased survivability may suit my play style more. Ad if I'm being honest, I really like how the titan melee is just rocking fools in their face. I caught myself leaning into a few, saying "raaa you fucker!" in my head.

I think I'll take this one to lvl 8 and then see what the hunter is all about. Man I want the full game now. Gimme! stephen_colbert_giveme.gif

That way the game wouldn't get many players.
It is way too casual as it is. It isn't aimed for hardcore players who like heavy penalties.

One very good thing about Destiny is the apparent lack of money sinks actually (buying new ships might be counted as a money sink but whatever), like repair costs.

Got beta code today, played alpha earlier. When I gate this game I think itll be mostly for non pvp stuff for me.

If I have understand correctly this game (when it releases) is rich for PVE stuff too. Thus I dont need to use pvp if I dont want?

the aim assist in Halo actually came from the xbox itself, in preferences you could actually turn it off there, I'm not sure if this is still the case on xbox one.

I too disliked the auto aim as when you had two guys close, it would often spazz out and not know where to go.....

Thats the point though, its Bungie so not just some random unrelated company.
Sony has been all over this game, I just think its surprising that MS wouldn't try something like "Preorder it for our systems and get the Master Chief's armor FREE!!!"

If only it did play more like Halo.

That's what I'm thinking after an hour in the beta. It's got great design but it just lacks those 5 % of polish that make good games turn out great. It feels like I'm fighting the weapons instead of the enemies. Framerate is atrocious on X1, definitely feels sub 30. And it looks like it should run at 60 quite easily. There's much to like and an equal amount to despise. Music is incredible. Sound effects are boring. Design is fantastic. But textures fall apart at short distances. Why the hub world which is basically just a means to run around between menu screens? Why can't I just press RB or whatever to go from weapons purchases to mission select? Which crazy person came up with the idea to hold buttons to do things? Hold Y to continue after a mission? Why? Cutscenes are lovely but those loading screens ...

having fun with gaf

but how to get the tag destiny gaf ?

Can you buy mods for weapons?

Not that I have seen. Your uncommon weapons upgrade with use and you can then upgrade them (pausing then pressing triangle or y when hovering over the weapon)

They usually consist of 2 different sights, a damage increase and a random buff.

I'm playing the x1 version now. The framerate seems identical to ps4

Funny thing is I came into it expecting it to be boring crud. I wasn't impressed with the unveil last year, this year's E3 wasn't much better. But the beta sold me. Is Destiny the greatest shooter/RPG shooter/MMO wannabe shooter of all time? No. But it was fun enough to warrant my 60 + tax. I enjoyed it more than Borderlands, at least.

I've also been playing a ton of Watch Dogs since it came out, and I expected that game to suck as well. It's really good though, and the online stuff is crazy fun.

Just have to keep expectations in check for this stuff. Enormous budget games are rarely going to take enough risk to break the mold, but they do a pretty good job at making very well tuned games.

I played on PS4, and it sounds similar. I would expect the frame rate to improve a bit for the final game. I play on a projector, and honestly the frame rate wasn't bad enough to turn me off of the game. We aren't talking Dragon's Dogma, nausea inducing frame rate here.

Okay, just had a KD of 20 in a Crucible match. Bad kid bonanza on the beta tonight.

I just got a 10.0 - 10 kills, 0 deaths. The other team wasn't even trying.

Had one like that today too , 17 kills 1 death. The other team had a couple early quitters, then it just ended up with 2 guys on their side. I managed to be the best at hunting the poor bastards down. I think I died at the very end to a golden gun shot one of the players had been slowly charging up.

I was only referring to the weapon sounds with Wolfenstein's sound design. Yes it had god awful mixing, but the weapons sound awesome. Music was excellent too.

I don't know, I'm just really not feeling it :l

The worst aspect for me is that killing someone just doesn't feel that great. It seems mostly to be about holding the trigger whilst aiming at their head, there doesn't seem to be a lot of skill involved with killing someone. This is something I think ties into the supers. They are to me, very poor design. It's essentially a guaranteed free kill unless you suck and massively screw up. There is very little you can do to counter them which I think is the main issue.

I can see that they're for traversal but I feel like the game would play a lot better if we could accurately shoot whilst in the air. You are already putting yourself at a massive risk by jumping as you are out in the open and an easy target however, further giving yourself a disadvantage by not being able to accurately shoot just discourages using vertical traversal. It would also liven up the firefights greatly, being able to dodge by jumping and use vertical traversal mid fight would add a lot to the skill gap which at the moment appears to be pretty small.

Also I'm really not playing it like Halo. I seriously can't see where the Halo comparisons come from after playing it. The only similarity is that it's Bungie and sci -fi. The games play completely differently. I was referring to Halo 3 because I thought that was a brilliantly designed MP game and I feel Bungie have been going downhill since then.

I'll play a bit more and see if it grabs me but at the moment I can't see myself picking up the game.

Can i say that i am totally agree with you? I am having fun and well Borderlands 2 was also fun but i stopped way sooner then i thought. This feels more polished even a beta and MP/Co-op etc is all ready very cool and can't wait for the whole game. So yeah i am getting the Limited Edtion on PS4 and i think it's worth it.

Yeah, what I really like about Destiny is the seamless variety of game modes and stuff to do. I also really like that it drops me into random fireteams to complete story missions, and I don't have to manually go through matchmaking to get there. I haven't had the opportunity to play with friends yet, but me and two randoms took down that strike mission together (something Prime) and it was a lot of fun.

I do wish the tower hub was more robust, with more missions and stuff to do ("get 3 jump kills"? Really Bungie? Zzzz), but considering the beta is just a taste, I'm sure there is much more in the full game.

I wish I could justify the $90 digital edition, though. I have the physical $60 paid off at GameStop, and the idea of not having to deal with a disc for a game I know I'm gonna have for months has a lot of appeal.

Agree. The extra armor and super make them très irritating. Basically if you don't get the first few shots in you're toast if you go toe-to-toe.

Good, considering how few Titan players there appear to be ingame. Survivability should go up as well with the second subclass.

Destiny is a direct competitor to the Halo series. This isn't like throwing a spartan into a fighting game. Destiny's here to eat Halo's lunch.
