I was super pumped they brought the beta back a day early; now go ahead and drop that nuke and move up the release date.

I'm guessing everyone would be okay with some post-release patches, right?

I'm really pissed right now
Apparently, the Xbox Live 360 trial I was saving up for the Destiny beta does not work. Bungie requires full Xbox Live to play the Beta.

Are you kidding me? fml

Have fun everyone

Yeah, was posted a few pages back. Apparently it's been done for one or two games in the past as well. :(

hit level 8 with my titan and did devil's lair twice with a buddy (2nd time was really easy). is there anything else fun to do? i don't really feel like grinding gear since everything will more then likely be reset for release.
Yeah I'm in the same situation. I'm playing this with a borderlands mindset where fun comes second to objective usefulness. If me playing a lot would mean that more shit gets transferred to full game I'd do so but I really don't want to burn myself out on old Russia (especially if rumors of it being the only map on earth are true) or on the 4 mp maps before the full game.

I'll be playing this weekend but Bungie should really be considering letting people have a beta exclusive sparrow or a beta exclusive ship. Something that won't affect the game. The emblem is a good idea but that's the first thing that will change for most

This is a shameful practice because it shows directly that they want you to pay for beta access and everything else. A trial is a trial, and I'm trialing jack squat if I can't test 100% of the features.
This reminds me why I'm growing out of love with the console market.

I feel bad for asking for a 360 key now, I feel I took someone's slot. I wish I knew this beforehand

What do you mean by patches? If you mean fixing glitches or graphical issues then yes that's common practice so it'd be hard to stay pissed against Bungie for it. If you're talking about game content like maps then most are already fine with the idea. I don't tend to get season passes but I got the Bungie one.

that's another question i want to know, has bungie came out and said what the rewards for playing in the beta are, and how to get them?

Hey at least you don't need PS+ on the PS3 version lol

Honestly you would have thought Gold is Gold no matter how it's being activated!

I saw people asking about the point of upgrading ships, and I was under the impression that more advanced ships were required to make further jumps? I'm not sure where I got the impression, but I feel like makes sense (could have sworn I read it somewhere, but I can't find an article where it's mentioned)

Reading the latest news from Deej on the bungie app, he said we will get a permanent REWARD. Note lack of plural. It might just be me putting too much thought into it, but I don't think it's anything more than the emblem them promised before.

I think they mention something about that in-game. When you get your ship and so.

Beta emblem is the only confirmed thing. Everything else is unknown altho I'm hoping it's all the cosmetic stuff like capes and sashes as well.

On Ign there is a list of the locations on Earth:
European Deadzone
The Last City
Mumbai Push
Old Russia
Old Chicago
Twilight Gap

I meant patches needing to be implemented as a result of moving up the release date (I know that won't happen). I just meant if they moved up the release date a month, I would be okay with post-release patches to fix or change anything QA finds in the final month, additional polish, stuff like that.

It's going to be a long 7 weeks after the beta ends.

Has there been any talk as to how many planets there will be in the entire game? I'm hoping it'll be a very large number.

I believe the bodies we will be able to visit are:
Earth
Moon
Venus
Mars
Reef (unconfirmed)
Jupiter's moon? (Heard it somewhere but highly unlikely)

To the guy somewhere above, I'm pretty sure Old Chicago is a concept location and not an actual one. I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong though.

There's an emblem for visiting the tower on the 26th. Beyond that, nobody knows.

We don't know yet. People are saying the Iron Banner emblem, as well as possibly something this weekend from an event.

Q. Do I get something cool for playing the Destiny Beta?

Yup! Play the Destiny Beta on Saturday, July 26th, beginning at 2PM PDT, to earn an exclusive emblem for the retail version of Destiny. We’ll also be delivering some fun and unexpected surprises throughout the Beta!

Thanks guys. I was hoping there were some hidden weapons or skins. But we shall see!

The only location from that list that is confirmed is Old Russia. Everything else comes from concept art that has had no confirmation of being in at all.

All we know is that Saturday will be the day we have to play to get whatever rewards they're giving us for the full game. As of right now there's only an emblem but I highly doubt Bungie would only reward people with such a small item.

I hope that's true. There was a while there where people here were discussing a YouTube video with a pamphlet from Bungie where it only listed like 3-4 major areas in the game over all.

So after having played on both last gen and current gen, my opinions have only really improved. It feels so good using an xbox controller again (sorry DS3, you were never meant for shooters).

So first off, the game is gorgeous having played it on the gen it was made for. The amount of details that you miss in the last gen systems is insane. Really nice to not have everything look like it got smeared with some Vaseline. The skyboxes are especially beautiful. Bungie has certainly done a great job so far with their art design (as to be expected) and the worlds themselves certainly have character.

The PvE is still great fun and it's really cool to see other players on occasion. Whether it's a random or one of your friends that you run into. I've had a lot of luck with other people and creating fireteams which is great. Even if you just do a quick battle together, wave, and part ways though it doesn't take away from it. As a matter of fact it helps to make the world feel all the more organic and alive. The enemy encounters are also still enjoyable. The AI really shines when on higher difficulties or when there are just enough of them. The Fallen Captains seem to take a page from the Prometheans Knights and Elites.

PvP is hit or miss really. I personally enjoy it but it's more of a cherry on top of a really delicious sundae. Or a cake if you can't eat dairy.

The music is beautiful. I was able to use my headset and holy shit it was an amazing experience. Whether I was in an epic firefight or just sitting at the tower enjoying the local dancers, the melodies and themes were wonderful. I can't wait for the ost to be released because Marty did a brilliant job with it. It's really a shame what happened with him and Bungie. The sound design overall is very well done. Ambient noises and splashing water or just the crunching of dry grass below your feet are all there.

The game isn't perfect though.

Despite the beautiful environments, the world can still feel really empty at times. Having the events occur a bit more often and introducing some roaming NPC's would certainly help with this. It could also benefit from having audio logs and other collectible a to really help flesh out the world and make it feel lived in as opposed to just kind of there. I can't say much about the story since it is a beta and who knows how much they are actually showing us. I'm hoping that the beginning of the full game isn't this short and story bits were skipped over to keep the mystery.

Content is also a concern. I'm hoping that Old Russia is not the only location that we get to explore on Earth at launch. While there are some areas we don't have access to yet, there needs to be more variety. I'm hoping for at least 2 Locations per planet at launch. The story missions dont seem to hold a lot of variety at the moment either but again it's a beta and probably a few of the types of missions we will see.

In regards to PvP there are obviously balance issues. The Titan and Warlock supers as well as the Auto Rifles seem to be the major ones. Handguns, while powerful aren't optimal to use since the only real way to shoot is by stuffing the gun in your face which also make jumping less viable. The decrease in accuracy while jumping is also insane. While Bungie have done an impressive job with the gameplay and ADS it is still detrimental to have such verticality to it and needing to obscure so much of your vision.

Overall though I'm really enjoying the beta and I can't wait for the full game. Bungie seem to have put a lot of live into this game and despite its issues which will hopefully be taken care of, it is still a hell of a lot of fun.

Control is actually a twist on Deathmatch. It's not really Domination.

Your team can (theoretically) win while controlling no points.

Yeah, that's a big part of why I don't like it much. It's an objective mode with little emphasis on objectives. I suck at competitive mp, so if I'm going to play I prefer modes where the objective achieving gives all or most of the scoring rather than K/D since I'm almost always negative.

I mostly just avoid PvP anymore so I don't really care. I've just messed around with it a tad in the alpha and beta since there isn't a ton of coop content.

I'll probably try out a Titan character later, have been playing Hunter mainly, and go through the story stuff again. My main gaming buddy plays Warlock, so I want to decide on one of the other two. Likely will stick with Hunter as I really like the golden gun and throwing knife.

So much talk about PvP and I haven't even tried it. Too busy with Old Russia. Maybe I ought to give it a try before the beta ends though. :)

Different interpretations when you know control IS deathmatch.

...are you guys not reading? I was responding to this:

I think the PVP is rad at least for Control. I'm not a fan of the deathmatch tho.

I think it'd be a stretch to say he was talking about a single game mode.

Anyway, it seems he's confused and there's still just Control available.

What is the best way to handle old level loot? Do I just dismantle it for its paltry amount of glimmer? Or is there something else that can be done with it?
