found 4 of the 5 golden loot chests without resorting to youtube, woohoo!

I'm really loving this game. I was so not excited about Destiny, but after playing it for a while now, it really is fantastic. I'm having so much fun doing raids and exploring that I barely even touched PvP. It's everything I wanted on my Halo Firefight wishlist, I cannot wait to see what the final game has in store for me.

but have you found all the dead ghosts? :D

Salvage seems to be some kind of CTF. I agree about auto team balance -- it's awful. I'll have games where one team gets reduced to one guy, then maybe a few minutes later new people join mid game (on a losing team), but the match is already decided and we're just wasting time waiting for it to end. It'd be better if it auto balanced, but alas, that'd mess with the rewards you get for winning and mess up their exp system.

If you start off on the winning team and get auto-balanced to the losing team, you'd be cheated. So they just don't have auto team balancing.

PvP obviously takes a back seat to PvE in Destiny.

Maybe, maybe not. If that were the case, you would think they would auto-match you into a fireteam for PvE missions.

I really think Destiny would benefit from some kind of player to player weapon/item trade system instead of just recycling or storing old/extra stuff.

but have you found all the dead ghosts? :D
How can you even check to see how many of how many you've found? Grimoire?

This is why I wish we had a mini-map in-game... so you can pinpoint locations of certain items people have found and you know exactly how to get there. It's also sometimes confusing to remember how to get to certain areas having to travel through a labyrinth of hallways and dark rooms in between.

Anyone know if there is a reason that my character is grayed out when I go to bungie.net? Also, why are the hunter's armor pieces so mismatched in color? I'm looking at these Titans that are White and Red, while my Hunter is white, hunter green, sky blue, brown and camo.

Anyone else feel like there needs to be more lore exposition in game, rather than this grimoire stuff? The Grimoire stuff is cool, but there is so much space in the maps, I think it could benefit the Lore bungie are trying to build if they just littered it with cool story focused things. Don't know about you guys but the second thing i'm most looking forward to is the growth of the lore and story of destiny.

Is it because the clan only has 85 people?

Can someone confirm this? how many people the clan should have in order to the name be under yo PSN ID?

Eventually we'll be able to buy shaders to color our armor. For now we look like we just bought random items from a galactic thrift store.

Does anyone know if there is a story reason why male human guardians can't have facial hair?

Like, does the Traveler require them to shave their awesome beards to access Traveler powers?

Do beards not fit in Guardian helmets?
Do warlocks swear off beards to better understand the complexities of the universe?

Is there a plague of lvl 3 Vandal beard lice that compels everyone to shave their sweet follicular chin warmer?

Or have I missed a button somewhere in the character creator?

So what gives?

I'm loving the beta so far.

I haven't followed development of Destiny much. Will there be a lot of these single player missions or will the main focus be PvP? I'm loving the missions and I hope they add more single player content with dlc/expansions.

I'm liking the Hunter cloaks and the Warlock armbands, but have yet to find a Titan fanny pack/sash I like. This is the coolest one I've seen so far:

FYI, some of that blood is mine

I have played the Alpha and Beta quite a lot but i went Warlock both times.

What are people's opinions of the three classes in the crucible?

Now let's get this straight, i'm pretty crap at MP (i'm not a huge MP guy) but the Hunters and Titans seem to soak bullets while i die pretty quick in any bullet exchange.

I'm lvl 8 and use Scout Rifle and Shotgun combo (mostly).

tl;dr
I die a lot in MP. Is it because i'm a warlock, because i'm crap or because i'm crap and a warlock?

I was expecting greatness...my expectations were exceeded. After two hours with it this morning (X1) I am convinced that this is the only game I absolutely need right now. I'll get others, but I NEED this one.

It's such a love child of Halo, Borderlands and Mass Effect...with an astounding level of polish and some great complexity for an FPS style game.

Bungie still has it. I am glad that everyone gets to enjoy their visions now...

Destiny is a direct competitor to the Halo series. This isn't like throwing a spartan into a fighting game. Destiny's here to eat Halo's lunch.

It's doing quite a poor job of eating Halo's lunch if everybody is saying you have to wait until level 8 to be good at PvP. Halo's bread & butter is arena combat style equal starts which does not seem to be the case with Destiny's PvP. I fail to see how they are direct competitors. Obviously the sci-fi aspect is similar, but they are very, very different games.

i love this game.

gonna be a long wait till september :(

I was doing gamer math earlier to figure out how I'm going to work through August. I'll be playing The Last of Us for the first time here soon, so that's at least two weeks at the rate I progress. Then I have inFAMOUS: First Light. Somewhere in the gaps I'm going to show my friend the glory that is Tiny Tina's DLC for Borderlands 2.

Even with all that it's going to be a long wait. I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long time.

I'm a little disappointed by the artificial boundaries. I came across many places where I got a warning on the screen with a count down timer telling me to turn around. I don't know if this is just because it's the beta but I suspect not. They simply could have just made the rock wall's higher or water if they didn't want us to go off in that direction rather than an out of bounds death timer.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the Beta gameplay to be bad. Don't get me wrong...the world is beautiful....but I would gladly give up detail for better mechanics/physics/story/voice acting, etc. First I want to know why there are only 3 classes. Their easily could have been 2 more to mix it up. They couldn't make a better create a character than the few preset options? I couldn't rotate my player to even see if her was long or short in the back(really this is the least of my worries). Next...I thought this was supposed to be a MMO. It's not. I also though this was supposed to be an RPG....seems to me once you open the other There are other people in the world, however there is a limit on the amount of players. And not only that...Im pretty sure there is a limit to the amount of people you can explore with. I enjoyed doing the missions at the time...but in retrospect...they were pretty shitty. Go to tower(loading). Go to orbit(Loading). It was a load fest from the very beginning. I hope that's just because it was the first set of 5 missions but if what we saw was a precursor of how missions are done and what is to come then I'd have to go out on a limb here and say Im not looking forward to it. Go here...listen to an un-animated ghost. Go there...kill a few guys. This has been done before hundreds of times. This game feels like Borderlands with a Halo suit on. Soon after I beat the missions and decided to give pvp a shot, I was at a level 5 with a few upgraded pieces of gear upon entering. I did not enjoy my time playing it. In fact...I turned it off completely after about ten matches and went to play Dark Souls on my 360. I found this to be the most horrible part of the game. After having realized that being 3 levels lower than the rest of the people playing(who were for the most part all level 8) that I was super underpowered. I would get one shot nearly every time. Even when I was firing first...my weapon seemed to do minimal damage. So between being jelly and trying to stay safe from the vehicles(most OP vehicles of any game in my opinion) I just couldn't get into it. Not only that...I found the pvp to be really slow. I started a Warlock class and the double jump/float is god awful. Running feels more like a power walk and Not only that...the amount of one-hit killers in the game is ridiculous too. If I wanna play one hit kills, I'd go play hardcore in CoD or better yet Golden Gun on Goldeneye for the 64. (Bungie has their own Golden Gun btw). Also, what's up with the lack of blood or oil coming from the machines? Shooting thing's doesn't cause some kind of reaction? Im not even a proprietor for blood in games. That said, Im sure there are a ton of fanboys for this game already and that's fine, but to me...Bungie seems like they just didn't want to let Halo go. Everything about Destiny screams Halo to me. The "Fallen"(might as well have been called the "flood"...still starts with an F) arrive in ships and jump off the platforms just like Halo. The sniper looks and feels like the snipers in the Halo franchise. The Guardians all feel like a wannabe Master Chief...especially when they put their helmets on. The Sparrow is a watered down ghost and your Ghost is a wannabe Cortana.

Look...I realize it's "Just the Beta". But let's be real. The game isn't going to change all that much. Truth is that the FPS genre just isn't what it used to be and sadly Destiny is not the future of the FPS. It's just another chapter In a book with all the same shit as the other FPS's out there. They're working on a few things they can tweak but mostly they're just making sure the network wont crash and the servers are operating correctly for launch day and leaving themselves a window for repair time. . What, because I get to change boots and gloves I'm supposed to be impressed. I will be picking this game because I love to play Coop....but...I feel it's only going to grab my attention for a few weeks or so. It reminds me of Titanfall in the fact that the hype has surpassed the final product. I feel like game developers and the producing companies need to stop the Pre-release hype and possibly cut down in advertising. They need to figure a way to keep the mystique. I think the biggest fault is that this game does not identify itself as new and fresh...it's being compared to Borderlands and Halo so much that it turns this into a comparison match. For this game to have been "Great"...It needs it's own personality...and the one we were shown is just another sci-fi shooter.

can you not play Crucible with a xbox live trial code? Says on Bungie's site that you could, even on twitter they say that XB1 supports it. but Crucible wasn't even showing up for him

The areas that are outside of the beta are guarded by high level enemies with question marks over their heads. It's really difficult to have areas that feel open world while always having physical barriers that surround the player. Even Borderlands has these open borders where sentry guns shoot you if you wander too far. I think it's just the nature of this style of game.

I have asked this before but didn't get an answer. Can you play the beta on both Xbox One and Xbox 360 with the same account or is it best to just download it on another account?

So forgive me if this has been answered multiple times, but what's the deal with the mars map and the earth map. Are they going to be added to rotation any time soon?

It's a known issue. A fair few gaffers have the same glitch including myself.

You'll eventually get a full set of uncommon armor which you can mix and match to your hearts content after playing for a few hours.

I'd show you my sexy warlock but I cannot see him as he's grayed out (shakes fist in Bungie's direction).

so apparently my 7 day trial on xbox 360 won't work with destiny for some reason

what a great thing to do to people.

Yeah, I already submitted it as a bug. It's definitely supposed to let you, but just an oversight (they were probably looking for the keyword "gold")

I picked up a three-month code on Amazon and got it within minutes

Well, the game doesn't let you into PvP until level 5 or 6, so at that point, it's just a matter of getting an upgrade-able green gun as your primary. There's actually a good chance that you will have that by level 5. I think people are recommending getting to level 8, because that's the point where it all comes together and you start "understanding" the game.

When leveling up my second character, I took it into PvP as early as possible, and I didn't do much worse than normal.
