Yeah. DiMartino posted it on FB. No more Korra on TV, they're trying some radical stuff.

Ah shit, I didn't see that either. Lol I guess I should have paid closer attention in this thread. DAMN. I just heard they got pulled earlier, didn't know they confirmed it would be going digital.

EDIT: Lol posted 3 hours ago no less. smh

Double edit: This might actually be great for fans though. I mean, imagine getting the rest of the season next week from digital sites (let's say they put them all up).

wtf is going on. Season 3 has been amazing so far.

This is a conspiracy to get views. Everyone will watch Fridays episode in a panic.

So shit, if they are really going all digital...I wonder if that will impact Book 4. I'm kind of confused, since I don't know the contract deal they had with Bryan and Mike (if they already paid up for Book 4, or if they are legally obligated to see it through). Or if Nick can back out. I know Book 4 was in pre-production (and they just finished that). But that means they are a year off from production being finished (so a years work is needed). I wonder if the budget for Book 4 will take a hit, or if it's already budgeted for?

Fuck me.

Book 4 is done is it not?

Book 4 is done is it not?

Nope. Last I heard (back in June) pre-production was wrapping up (that means just all the story board stuff and writing). They haven't started actual production yet (the animation). Someone will correct me if I'm wrong (in terms of what is left to do), but I do know they aren't close to finished with Book 4.

Fucking hell, Nickelodeon. They don't deserve Korra anyway, the network has been on a rapid decline for the past few years. Hopefully some positive light will be shed on the series at comic con.

Yeah I really do hope Book 4 doesn't take a budget cut, Hopefully they are too far into production for any of this recent stuff to have an affect

As you said a straight to Bluray Digital release would be the best option now
No need to worry about Nicks erratic scheduling any more if they straight up release Book 4

The positive thing to come from this (if you can find a positive out of this), is the possibility that they just release all the remaining episodes on iTunes and Amazon starting this weekend or next week (vs having to wait 5 weeks to finish the season).

Bleh.

I don't see why not. I mean, it means Nick wants to just make money off the sale of the episodes (as they aren't making enough money with advertisements). So putting them all on sale ASAP and all at once makes sense.

nickelodeon:

-airs commercials for two weeks about the only place you'll find korra is on tv. NOT ONLINE. TV. teeeeeeeveeeeeeeeee!!!!
-the legend of korra, now only available online!

what a fucking sham of a station. i usually try and see what logical reasons things could have happened to lead them to certain decisions, to give even executives the benefit of the doubt, but there is nothing logical going on here.

- Book 2 shifts to Friday (Despite Book 1's excellent ratings on Saturdays)

- Book 2's ratings are substantially down, and continue to struggle at this timeslot.

- Bizarre scheduling leaves us with various week hiatuses, leaving the back half of Book 2 scattered (ratings drop even further).

- Nick decides to unload the final 3 episodes online in a single night (announcing it just that morning).

- Nick Mundo accidentally leaks 4 episodes of Book 3

- Nick surprise announces Book 3 will be returning in a week, zero marketing or build up to the release date.

- Without many people knowing the season was airing (let alone that the new season was even finished), Book 3 debuts to poor ratings at the same timeslot that Book 2 struggled with.

- Book 3 has 2 episodes unloaded every Friday.

- Korra isn't for sale on iTunes or Amazon. Nick.com also doesn't host episodes after they air.

- Nick advertises that it's an "exclusive" thing, that you can only see it on Nickelodeon (a play at it not being available digitally or online).

- Nick pulls the last 5 episodes of Book 3 after abysmal ratings, and is shifting to a "digital only" format.

Yeah, clearly this series was mishandled.

Well, there goes my hope for Book 4. Can't see them pulling the show off the air and still sinking the money into producing another whole season. Fucking Nickelodeon.

Yeah, this is intentional. Malice is the only explanation for this.

Nick never knew how to handle Avatar at all. I legit missed the back-half of The Last Airbender's season 3 because I didn't know when it was on anymore.

Fucking hell, Nickelodeon. They don't deserve Korra anyway, the network has been on a rapid decline for the past few years. Hopefully some positive light will be shed on the series at comic con.

here's my guess on the timeline:

1. legend of korra first pitched while nick was still trying to make a series out of the last airbender with films and a television presence, like what they're doing with ninja turtles.
2. for some reason nobody wanted to continue the movie series, but contracts were signed for the show, and production was already underway so it only made sense to move forward.
3. when korra aired, toy deals were in the works, and initial high ratings led to the greenlighting of additional seasons beyond the first two.
4. the toy deals fell through at the end of season one for some reason- maybe the demographics breakdown showed more adults or more women watching the show than toy companies expected, scaring them off.
5. nickelodeon decided to just burn off season 2 fairly unceremoniously, and maybe used it as a test for other shows, since the series would be getting a limited run (let's see what happens when we put it on fridays, and then online, and now on saturdays, and secretly release all episodes online).
6. this was also the plan for the current season, but the leaks upset the advertisers nickelodeon may have worked out deals with, so they made a strong push for television with episodes 4-7.
7. now that korra really has nothing to offer nickelodeon, they could be looking to cut the budget on the final season and test out some sort of online streaming solution using what remaining fanbase the show has.

After re-watching the last several episodes (and in light of the rumours of the Earth Queen eating her father's pet bear), I just hope the Ba Sing Se Zoo is left untouched.

Why are you suggesting it's intentional? Incompetence and poor decisions have nothing to do with malice. Why would Nick want a product they invested in to fail. Lol

*confused by your post*

Partially a joke. It is possible to be so incompetent that it becomes indistinguishable from malice.

Here I am suggesting there is no way that anyone can be that incompetent.

At best apathy--which is leading their product to fail--could be claimed. But since we have not seen any attempt to actually course correct...

Can't say it's not due to ratings Nick is doing what it's doing. Remember how well The Last Airbender did and they still jerked that show around like crazy as well.

The whole channel seems to be batshit nuts.

Yeah, they're fucking clowns. If anything, this post proves it completely.

I hope we get to see Book 4, i read somewhere that they were far on production but i'm not so sure tbh.

It's not. The Ba Sing Se Zoo turned into a Ba Sing Buffet

They are taking it completely off the air... the fuck?

Something something Neflix....please. Or Amazon Instant Video. Or both.

It's going online. Again, online isn't as much of a death sentence as people think, outside of budget. If somebody like Amazon or Netflix help fund it we'd also have little drop in budget.

They are taking it completely off the air... the hell?

Something something Neflix....please. Or Amazon Instant Video. Or both. Like others have said, a Clone Wars type solution would be great IMO.

Nick seems like a bunch of incompetent fucks.

I actually mis-read your post! I thought you were suggesting that I was saying Nick was doing this out of malice (whereas the intent of my post was just to point out how much they mishandled the show). To be honest, I've always just thought it was complete incompetence. I've heard Avatar fans bring this up before in the past (that they've wanted the show to fail) though.

So I thought you were saying that's what I was implying. My apologies. That said, you are right that it's really bizarre that they've done nothing to course correct. And there is SO MANY basic things they could have done, that just don't make sense. Hell, when Book 1 was a massive success on Saturday, where the fuck was the merchandise?

I find this whole thing strange too now, when you consider a game is being made. With regards to Nick wanting it to fail, I guess it's possible.

The Viacom deal with Amazon makes it impossible for Netflix to save akorra, guys.
Amazon, Hulu or Yahoo, maybe.

But seriously though. Fuck Nick. I loved SB but you guys ran him into the ground. Godamnit. :(

The platinum game has to at least be competent. It doesn't need all that much content, just be fun to play.

Going by platinum's previous games it should hopefully be fun from a gameplay point but with these recent developments I doubt we'll be getting more Korra games after this

Such an optimistic start

Kind of OT but I'm watching The Legend of Aang and Azula is such a bitch, especially in the flashback episode 'Zuko Alone', that kid is crazy.

We never got to see the Fire Nation post-Zuko ;_;

We got Water, Air, and Earth, no Fire.

am sad

I hope S4 gets released. I knew I was jinxing it when I said there's no way they aren't showing season 4.

Lol damn. Imagine how crushed the creators must be right now.

I can't wait for the panel this weekend now. Goddamn imagine getting this news and then 2 days later having to get up in front of thousands of people and tell them how great your show is.

i wonder how many people fought for this show behind the scenes. i visited the studio a couple years back and one of the producers or executive producers who had worked on avatar had also worked on invader zim. it had been about ten years since invader zim first aired, and he was still visibly upset that the show was treated like it was. i got the feeling that nick new york tells the animation studio what to do and the guys at burbank have to do it.

I can imagine it must be awkward even for the cast that's showing up. All the VAs will be sitting there awkwardly with this news...ugh.

Jesus christ nick. What is wrong with you guys? Amazon pick the show up pls ;__;
Well this sucks.

I just hope we get to see book 4, since that was always going to be the final season.

Also do we have any idea how the past DVD and Blu-ray sales have been? I know digital has been decent. I'd like to think those still have a chance, they might as well try to make some money out of those right? Right? :(

I would prefer a straight to blu ray / digital release at this point.

At this point I'm worried we wont even get a DVD or BD release.

Someones gonna cry from all the fan love. I guarantee it.

I hope the news is overwhelmingly good. When Clone Wars got cancelled suddenly, it sucked. But they released the final season all at once on Netflix. That would be awesome, even if we don't get any more than S4.

Nick is just an commercial channel now for Spongebob merc, and i'll be glad when I dont have to watch it there anymore.
